The Swahili People of Kenya and Tanzania.
This video is an investigation into the Swahili people. The Swahili people are some of the easiest-going people you will ever meet. Unlike those aggressive high-strung Nairobi peeps, these guys are as laid-back as a cat in a sunbeam. Warning, don't mistake their laid-back vibe for an invitation to make them mad. The amount of colourful insults that will come your way will leave you traumatized. There's even a whole Italian colony in Malindi all because of how accommodative these people are.
The Swahili are also known for their linguistic prowess in Swahili which is only natural since it’s their first language. The way this language flows from their lips is mesmerizing to say the least. It's like poetry, but with extra swag. I definitely believe Swahili is the most melodious language I have ever heard. Congratulations if you manage to bag a Swahili lady because they are known for their royal handling of their men. Their bedrooms skills are so on point; if there were an Olympics for bedroom athletics, they'd be taking home the gold, silver, and bronze. They are drop dead stunning and their bodies are works of art with the curves in all the right places. You should see how their bodies hug their long dresses when they dance Taarab. They are also gentle, affectionate and their skills in the kitchen are legendary.
    Basic Demographics.
The Swahili people, renowned for their vibrant culture and historical significance, inhabit the East African coast, stretching from southern Somalia, Kenyan and Tanzanian coasts, to northern Mozambique. They can be found in as far as Comoros and northern tip of Madagascar. The native Swahili number over 2 million. If you consider all the second language speakers Swahili is the most widely spoken African language at over 300 million speakers. They are predominantly Sunni Muslim, adhering to a unique blend of Islam infused with local customs. They also were among the first practitioners of Islam among sub-Saharan people. They are also multiracial, possessing genetic input mainly from the Bantu, Arabs, Indians, Persians and Portuguese.
    Origins, Phenotype and Genetic Makeup.
A new analysis of medieval DNA has revealed that around the turn of the first millennium, Swahili ancestors from Africa and Asia began intermingling and having children, giving rise to a Swahili civilization with a multiracial identity. It is believed that the Swahili came about as a result of relations between Omani Arab, Persian, other Asian traders and Bantu women. I guess those men couldn’t resist those Bantu curves.
Phenotypically, Swahili individuals exhibit a diverse range of features, from various skin tones to hair textures.
    Melodious Language.
The Swahili language, also known as Kiswahili, is the glue that binds the diverse Swahili communities together. It serves as a lingua franca across the region, enabling communication between people of various ethnic backgrounds. Kiswahili is primarily a Bantu language that has borrowed words and expressions from Arabic, Persian, Portuguese, and English, reflecting the history of trade and cultural exchange. The Swahili may be a small group but their impact through the spread of the Swahili language is enormous. Today, over 300 million speak the language all over the world. Here is a sample of this melodious language.
    Culture.
Swahili culture, like the Swahili language, has a Bantu core but has also taken from foreign influences. Swahili architecture, with its beautifully carved doors and lovely courtyards, exemplifies the confluence of African and Arab influences. Taarab music embodies the essence of Swahili culture and history via its melodious tunes and poetic lyrics. Its melodies and orchestration are influenced by Arab and Indian music; however Western instruments such as guitars are occasionally utilized. Traditional dances, which feature a lot of sensual pelvis movement and are frequently performed at weddings and other festive occasions, are a vivid expression of communal joy and unity.
Swahili cuisine is influenced by Indian and Arabic cultures, and it is another representation of Swahili culture. Many meals rely on staple items including rice, coconut, and spices. Samosas and tropical fruits are also available. Finally, Swahili culture may be seen in their vibrant attire. The Kanga is one such example. Kanga is also known as the Leso. It is a bright garment worn by both men and women inside most Swahili houses. The messages written on them are a manifestation of Swahili collective knowledge and humour.

I don’t understand the hateful comments and eraser of my people; I am Swahili and my language is Kiswahili. I’m often told by other Africans that I’m not African especially from those coming from the west of Africa which baffles me. I know my history and it was not tragic I also know my mixed heritage we’ve kept good records. It’s obvious the people shown in this clip are a mix of Swahili and Bantu people who adopted the Swahili culture as many people moved to the coastline areas after the 60’s for work. Furthermore I don’t appreciate the sexualisation of my people at the beginning of this clip. Lastly the cutting of the hip dance kukata kiuno (aka winding) is done in segregated weddings notice you see woman in the clips and not men but now exploited by pop-stars like Diamond who exploits Swahili culture.

I'm going to make a video of it by the end of 2024 if I get time for it.

It is quite interesting how tribes are classified in Africa, for instance in Burundi, we have small number of people who are native Swahili speakers including myself around the shores of Lake Tanganyika, basically they have no any other African language (well Kirundi is kind of second language learned at school) except Kiswahili, and believe me, they have very much similar swahili culture like they 90% muslim and their cuisine is whole another level in the country - the was actually a debate about this few years ago, how would you classifify these people, I for one I wouldnt wanna be called Hutu or Tutsi when it comes to Burundian tribes, that is for sure.

For all the people salt in the comment section saying Swahili is just language and not people are you stupid, uneducated, or just a hater? yes, Swahili is both language and people just like Somali is both language and people or Malagasy is both language and people, or how Afar are people and language at the same time. Every language starts somewhere and has natives who use that language as their mother tongue. Swahilis are mostly Muslim Sunnis just like Somalis and that is one of the things we share, also they borrow some Somali culture like wearing Somali Dirac or Baati so big ups to Swahilis and much love from Somalia. Also doesn't Malindi belong to Somalia just like Wajeer, Gaarisa, Luma Island, and Mandheera? People say French is the romantic language but I believe Spanish and Swahili are. I love their language and want to learn in the future.

In 2024 we say 'enslaved person'. The noun slave implies that she was, at her core, a slave. The adjective enslaved reveals that though in bondage, bondage was not her core existence. Furthermore, she was enslaved by the actions of another. Therefore, we use terms like enslaver, rather than master, to indicate one's effort to exert power over another. This was a lot of information. Thanks for sharing.

They are also very good at being housewives high level of jealousy. You're totally wrong, in zanzibar there were a dynasty of sultan from the wahadimu called mwiniye mkuu, this people identify back then as waungwana (now waswahili) and they came retrace their root back to the shirazi who founded sultanate of kilwa, like a lot of people in every city state of the coast (mombasa/lamu/kilwa etc.)
In 19th they were the people who conducted trade (ivory and slaves) along all east africa down to the greats lakes and by the way they diffuse their langages which is kiswahili, and THEN people have developed their own dialect of it.
But because it was adopted as a lingua franca you dont want to recognize the greatness and the specific identity of the people of the coast who bring it first and try to act like the langage was every where from the start which doesnt make any sense.

It’s a tribe Swahili people are not the same as the other tribes on mainland Tanzania and Kenya- when people see my family they are unsure of where we are from even mainland Tanzanians and Kenyans until we speak. Somalis, Ethiopians, Sudanese confuse me for their people. When I visit family in the Middle East people refer to me as khaleeji as Arabs from the gulf countries tend to be better at recognising Swahili people. I am sometimes asked if I’m mixed race Jamaican by people who are confused. I understand the confusion as I have a very mixed heritage- my parents, grandparents and some of my great grandparents were born jn Zanzibar they have good records and clear birth certificates explaining their ethnicity we have documents as old as 18th century. I have largely a hadharami (Oman/ yemen), Iranian and Bantu mix. My husband has largely Omani, Indian and Bantu mix. We are the Swahili people. The Swahili language comprises of words mainly from Bantu, Arabic, Hindi , English and German was birthed by the Swahili people and is now adopted as the language of the African Union. Dialects vary, with more Arabic words used in the Swahili coast- more Bantu words near the Congo basin. Historically the Swahili people are traders and had access to various ethnicities around the world because the Indian Ocean and Red Sea is easier to navigate.

The Swahili or kiswahili language was first communicated in sign language which was started by the Portuguese in the East Africa's coastal region before the arrival of the Arabs. It was later translated into a written and spoken language under an accord, still maintaining it's neutrality.
Originally Swahili referred to the sign language, kiswahili to the written and spoken version, translators as waswahili and written by Portuguese scholars(There were no African scholars then). It was later taken over by the Arabs who contributed much to it's development, African's did nothing to the development of Kiswahili. The Portuguese invented kiswahili and should hold patent right.

@@guychase5842 You're totally wrong, Before the sultan of Oman said bin sultan came in zanzibar there were a dynasty of sultan from the wahadimu called mwiniye mkuu, this people identify back then as waungwana or washirazi (now waswahili) and they came retrace their root back to the mahdali sultan of kilwa, like a lot of people in every city state of the coast (mombasa/lamu/kilwa etc.)
And the sultan of oman came, they were the people who conducted trade (ivory and slaves) along all east africa down to the greats lakes and by the way they diffuse their langages which is kiswahili. Now that kiswahili has been adopted as a lingua franca you dont want to recognize the greatness of the people of the coast who bring it and try to act like the langage was every where from the start which doesnt make any sense.

Swahili is not a tribe it's a language.
Borrow few Arabic words....wrong. 70% of the language originates from Arabic.
Swahili...originates from Arabic word Sawahil which means the coastal beach. That's why you will find only people from the coast they claim to be Swahili, no one from interior will say so.
