      Thanks for watching. It is clearly mentioned in the question stem: "A software development team can begin to write the scope of development only after 2 months of the start of design"....hence it's definitely as SS. Nowhere in the question it is mentioned that "Dev team has to wait till the Design team complete. Please don't assume things that are not mentioned in the question. This is a key learning for your PMP prep.

    Lead is only applicable in FS relationship but get lead we are falling in SS relation. Before books arrive, we started reading them. Activity was not finished.

    • @PMPwithRay
      @PMPwithRay  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Saakshi. Please go through the lecture again, lead is applicable on a discretionary dependency and not a mandatory dependency. The book example is an example of discretionary dependency.
      Discretionary means that finish-to-start might be preferential, but it is not a hard logical dependency. In other words, there is no physical limitation or constraint that the predecessor needs to be finished before the successor activity can start.

    • @PMPwithRay
      @PMPwithRay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Generally, SS is a mandatory dependency, and as I have mentioned in my video, you cannot have lead for a mandatory dependency. It should only be for a discretionary dependency.

    • @megdam3d
      @megdam3d 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PMPwithRay And if the obligation has a low priority, especially when there are resources equivalent to the sources of the predecessor activity, and then it has the ability to start the next activity before starting predecessor , for example i bought books from Amazon hard copy books but i have a soft copy and i will start reading soft copy till hard copy arrived then i will complete reading with hard copy
      In this example there is no hard mandatory dependency between activity

  • @kushallakhani2419

    How come the book example of lead is not Finish to Finish cos we need to finish the delivery in order to finish reading the book. I don't understand how it is finished to start as we start reading as soon as we order, so basically, we start reading before delivery finishes. KINDLY HELP ME UNDERSTAND

    • @PMPwithRay
      @PMPwithRay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kushal, the base activity was to 'read all the books'. And this was basis the assumption that you read from the hard copies, not soft kindle ones. Hence, this activity is a F to S. Finish the delivery to Start reading the books. This is also with a valid assumption that you have ordered all the books together in one go!
      Finish the delivery in order to finish reading the books is not correct because just 'finishing' the delivery does not mean that you have 'finished' reading the books right? It can take 15-20 days for you to complete the activity 'read the books' even after the delivery 'finishes'. Then how it is a F2F relationship? Hope this is clear.

  • @payalmukherjee4351
    @payalmukherjee4351 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Please help me with this doubt. PMBOK definition of FS says successor activity cannot start until a predecessor activity has finished. Doesn't that mean that there is a mandatory dependency where the second activity cannot start without the first one completing. Then why are we saying that LEAD cannot happen for mandatory dependencies? Isn't FS a mandatory dependency?

    • @PMPwithRay
      @PMPwithRay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Payal. There are two types of dependencies: Mandatory & Discretionary. FS can happen for BOTH. The only difference is in case of a mandatory dependency, you cannot pull forward the next task (since it's mandatory to complete task- 1 to start task-2). However, if the dependency is discretionary, you can pull forward task-2 (which is LEAD).
