Great video. I’m new to reel machines and just got this TEAC from a buddy. Just cleaned up good and put new belt on. Going to hook up soon to see how it goes.
hey matt! i had a really basic question on this machine (also the tascam 38 if it's a similar answer) - how do you lubricate the motors? i've seen videos of people lubricating some machines and there's an obvious spout to put the oil into with a syringe but i couldn't see that with my machine. maybe am being very silly by missing it! thanks again!
Sir I have a question. I inherited my little brothers X-10 . The tension rollers are missing. My question is, will the missing rollers keep it from feeding tape. Motors all seem to work with no tape on the machine. Put the tape on and it don’t run the tape. I’m trying to figure out if the tension rollers will solve the problem before I put more money into it.
@@5thcomm the pinch rollers aren’t clicking up and down like they should. The one on the right moves up and down slightly when play is pushed. The left one don’t move on its own. I can manually move it up but it dont help anything . Guess it needs real repair and not just the tension rollers replaced. Thanks
Matt Great Video even though I knew all the details except the reel motors are a lot different compared to the Teac A series A 6300 A4300SX I really prefer the larger A series motors

I did get a SONY TC-765 a few weeks back & it is LOVELY :P But unfortunately when I try & play a reel it really struggles to play it(even 7" reel to) I just can't work out why really. I don't think it's faulty & I haven't a clue how to fix it(I wouldn't open it up anyway. I would make it worse) :D It did play a reel(if that is what people say) :D but it was going slow sometimes & then it would stop or not play at all sometimes like it was struggling to move the reel. Very odd. But I am sure I will figure it out hopefully soon er I think :D
Hi Bigg Matt - followed your advice re: cleaning roller bearings and re-lubing to fix slow rewind and ff. Seems to have made a HUGE difference. I have a question though - on the left roller, the big one directly below the left spindle, there is a little spring. I'm not sure how it should be oriented with respect to the shaft - under or over? As it is, it seems to create a ratchet effect and that roller hardly spins at all. The right roller does not have a spring. Should it? Does this affect rewind/ff speed?
Hi Bigg Matt. I just purchased one of these and found out that one of the magnets was lose in one of the motors. i am pretty new, learning but after tearing it down to get the motor out, reglued the magnet to the housing, new belts, cleaned out all old grease and lubricated and oiled as designed, went to play it, and it tries to play but both forward and reverse buttons it only plays reverse. it quickly starts and stops as the tension rollers quickly go slack and it just stops. it was working before, just make a lot of noise due to the motor. i know it is something i did, just not sure where to start. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. thank. Paul
@@5thcomm will, but what i noticed is the unit only wants to play in reverse, even though i am pressing forward. could the magnet i reglued be 180 out?

They're good machines. Make sure you test it thoroughly before buying to make sure it records/plays in both directions.

The spring has an opening that fits over the shaft to hold the spring in place.
I had an X-10 and sold it 30 years ago. So why are people still using a reel to reel deck ?

Hi LL, try holding the supply reel back a little when you begin forward play and see if the X 10R plays in forward.

the single magnet was in the motor on the right.
there were two magnets of course, one had come lose.
