Hey dude.....I found ya because I'm thinking of getting a Catalina 30....also in SD... may see ya out there after the summer 2021. I subbed - I need some sailing training. I would have suggested a life jacket also on this solo sail......but hey, I'm still learning! Keep it rolling! Good luck with your channel!
Hey what's up buddy I have the same boat 1990 Catalina 30 I live in Miami but I spent all my time in the Bahamas it's a great boat I love like Catalina 30
I'm hoping to buy a 1980 Catalina 30 for the upcoming season. Do you have the details on your blue bean bag looking cushion that you looked so comfortable in?
Just took my 7 year old out there last weekend. First time out for him and he was a natural. Can’t say the same for my wife.... we left her at the dock after she got sick... oh well!
At 6:30 sailboat swings widely off course and gets out of the way of huge power yacht - gets a horn warning too for being to slow about it. There's rules and then there's absurdly rich people.
The yacht captain was actually probably confused by the actions of the sailboat, and with the distance closing fast, gave the warning toots that it was time to decide what to do. From the yachts perspective, it probably appeared that the sailboat was going to go one way, then the other, then back the other. Very unclear signals. Better to establish radio contact though.
@@RealHankShill true - but the reason sailboats sometimes suddenly have to move in unexpected directions (at the caprice of the wind) are very complicated and this is why motor boats are burdened to avoid them. Not to mention the overtaking rule.
I don't know if you will see this, next time you sail alone. You can raise the main before you leave the dock. It helps to steady the boat and when you get out, you just have the job to contend with. Post more, fair winds and good sailing.
Yo brother, great video! Gonna be moving to San Diego in a few months and have been looking at Catalina 30's to buy and live on. I don't know much about sailing but if you have any surveyors you could recommend i would appreciate it. Best, Adam
Why I want a sailboat where all lines lead aft! Still very nice looking boat. Also I think you had the right of way for two reasons, your under sail and that bigger boat is overtaking you. One last thing, for more subscribers find a hottie from SDSU or UCSD to go out with you, wouldn't hurt.
New to your channel. Looking to buy a Catalina 30 in the next few years. Renting boats for now. If you need a hand, I'm not a total novice, and would like to help.
Fellow Catalina 30’ owner/sailor. Slipped in San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico and sail the Sea of Cortez. Thanks for a great video!
I’m so glad my dad spent years with me sailing different boats. Never did like our centerboard 22’ buccaneer though, always felt really unstable!
Another C 30 owner here. Just found your video. Subscribed :)
I’d love to hang out with you and learn how to sail again. My Dad had a 1974 C 22 and have many great memories.
wow its amazing video jack on the docks.

That is just a Big Joe bean bag. Can get them at Walmart or online for like $30. Thanks for watching!

Haha no worries! Gotta have a shore contact!
Nice trip 👍
Thanks! Your videos look great!
Do you still have the boat?

Thanks for the tip Jimmie. Never thought about that!
🎶Good day, sunshine 🎶 do do do da dodo🎶

I’ll sail with you man. I’m a member at harbor sailboats on shelter island but can’t take the 22s out of the bay. Hit me up.
Why does it only go 6knots tops
That pretty much the top speed of a Catalina 30. Also, I’m not a great sailor haha
C30s are not fast boats. The hull speed is like 6.7 kn. She is beamy and kinda under sailed. Not designed to win races, she is a cruiser.
Nice man! Just bought a Cat 30 (Houston). Took a few lessons a few years ago. Few TH-cams and I should be good to go 🤣
What kind of boat is that, and what are the docking fees at that harbor like?
Pricey! $24.50/ft each month plus a $400 live aboard fee.
@@OnTheDocks What kind of sailboat is that?

I’m curious if you have ever gone thru the rough sea with this Catalina 30 ?
No I really haven’t. Went out in some really strong wind by myself once to see if I’d live. I’m still here! lol
If the boom knocks you overboard or slip, you will have a long swim without a life jacket (or harness...)
Life jacket just makes it harder for the sharks to eat you quickly.
@@ellingwood1 Makes it easier to circle back and retrieve the car keys from their pocket..
I'm rebuilding a Catalina 30 also need to build my channel up.
I just bought one! And it's middle of winter - too excited to wait! :)
What happens if you fall off the boat by yourself?
The boat sails away and then you drown. Don't fall off.
You find out how far you can swim, and how long you can hold your breath. It is not recommended.
Other two comments are spot on. I I wouldn’t be climbing around the boat in rough seas with no safety.

If you need someone to crew I'm down. I would dig going out on your boat to learn the ropes. Let me know. I work hard.

So worried about ur Airpods
👍🇵🇭
:)
Sure wish youtubers Would normalize the volume between speaking and music.
Epic sail? That was definitely more like a epic fail. How can you have a epic sail in a vacuum of wind? Clickbait.
Lol Everyone else seemed to like it alright. All good though man! Entitled to your opinion!
