I am sorry you will need a feeding tube. It is much easier than you expect. Our son has had a feeding tube for almost 20 years. We do not use the machine. We do bolus feeds which takes less time. When my husband went through cancer treatments, he also had the same type of feeding tube as our son. He was able to tolerate a bolus feedings. One disagreement I had with the video was when she said the man can pause the feeding to go to the bathroom. I would recommend flushing the tube before stepping away. Leaving formula in the tube can clog the opening.
If the area where the tube enters the stomach becomes red and irritated, the tube might need an adjustment if it is too tight or too loose. And there is a cream to reduce granuloma that can develop around the tube. Granuloma is not dangerous. Your nurse or doctor should be able to figure out the problem.

I might have to have this done. They been wanting to for a few months but I have not let them. But from what I was told anything going in your intestine and not your stomach has to be sterile including the water to flush. Is this not true or did you just not mention it? If your tube goes to your stomach than it does not have to be and you can even blend your own food. But mine would be a J tube into my small intestine.

My Dad has a g/j tube with the same orange port as the guy in the video.
The port keep's falling out and leak's all over the place.
My question is, if I remove the orange port and insert the continuous feeding directly into the tube itself will the contents of the bag go into his stomach or intestines?
    Thank you.

It can go in to the peritoneal cavity and might end up in sepsis. Always immediately take patient to the GI specialist and check For the placement of the tube if it is reinserted before feeding.
Also get an USS scan of abdomen done to check if any fluid has spilled in to peritoneal cavity which requires laporotomy.

why that old man have j-tube feeding?

    • @laurieinmn6468

Sometimes, cancer patients can't eat or have difficulty swallowing. The J-tube helps them stay hydrated and dget the calories they need. I do not know shy that man needs a j-tube. There are other diseases that hinder a persons ability to swallow, too.

Lots of reasons. I have gastroparesis. The stomach paralyzes basically and wont move food through it proper. I get very sick and throw up food eaten several days before sometime. I have had this for about 3 years now and it is getting worse. I am loosing weight fast. They are wanting to do this for me but I won't let them just yet. I am trying to get one last hail Marry surgery to to help that they place a gastric stimulator that shocks the stomach and helps it move. But very few Dr.s do it and it is considered experimental so my insurance is not wanting to pay for it so this is my next step. If I can't get it done I am going to have to do this.

She hasn't checked for the placement of tube to begin with.
You have to aspirate and see if you get any turbid content. Or you have to auscultate while injecting some air within the stomach.
If you feed while tube is placed outside the stomach or jejunumn, you will end up with laporotomy!!!!!! Then sepsis then septic shock then death

Our foundations ebook just updated to say that we no longer auscultate with air for placement. In fact, the school's director came in to witness our instructor stressing that this is no longer done. This was yesterday.
