    I tried to fill the bag with just the formula (has the flush bag) and it wouldn't keep priming. Do you always have to have the water in the flush bag for it to keep priming?

    • @Shieldhealthcare
      @Shieldhealthcare  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Laura, I believe that if you just want to prime the feed bag vs the flush bag you may need to you use a different command. Instructions in the manual specify: "If a Feed & Flush Set is used, remember to first press HOLD TO PRIME FLUSH until the flushing fluid has reached the valve, and then press HOLD TO PRIME FEED until the feeding fluid has reached past the valve and down to the distal end connector." Try using HOLD TO PRIME FEED to see if that works. Hope that helps!

    Thank You! This was great!! I am wondering if the pump has a feature to stop if the tube becomes disconnected. This is happening often on an overnight feeding and the gentleman gets saturated.

    • @Shieldhealthcare
      @Shieldhealthcare  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! The pump will alarm/stop if there is air in the line, a kink in the tubing or if the bag is empty. It won't know if the tip of the feeding set has disconnected from the patient's tube. The best way to prevent this would be to secure the tip of the feeding set into the tube's port. AMT makes a product specifically for this: AMT Clamp™ Feeding Tube Connector (www.appliedmedical.net/product/accessories/) or you can devise something similar using tape. Once your patient's doctor replaces his feeding tube with an ENFit feeding tube, the connection between the feeding tube and the feeding set will twist together, preventing disconnection. Here's an article and video on this: www.shieldhealthcare.com/community/nutrition/2016/09/12/enfit-feeding-sets-tubes-and-syringes-in-2017/

    I'm getting a rotor error while priming manually or auto priming. it will start to prime for about 3 seconds than error occurs. I release the button than repeat the process until it's primed. any idea on why I get this error while priming? I've changed out the bags, powered it on/Off with no resolution. Is there a way to factory reset to default in hopes of getting rid of error?

    • @Shieldhealthcare
      @Shieldhealthcare  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ray, thanks for your question. According to the operators manual, the ROTOR ERROR screen appears during RUNNING or PRIMING, when the pump has detected an unusual operating condition for the rotor. It generally results from a problem with the pump set tubing around the rotor. Check that the pump set is not damaged, and re-load the tubing around the rotor. Press CONTINUE to restart.If the error cannot be resolved, press POWER to stop operation of the pump and put a different pump into service. In other words, if reloading a new set/bag (and maybe turning the pump off/on and unplugging/plugging the power cord) doesn't work, you may need to contact your medical supply company for a replacement pump or the manufacturer for replacement. Here's the number for Medtronic/Covidien: 1-800-962-9888. Hope that helps!

      +Jen Ortega Hi Jen. Thanks for commenting. To answer your question, you just need to have the patient connected to the feeding pump before your hit start on the pump. Please let us know if you have other questions. Thanks!

    • @agjc1221
      @agjc1221 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Jen Ortega You can set everything up without it being attached to the patient's G tube. You definitely don't want to prime the line while it is attached, because all you will do is pump air into the patient's stomach. My advice is to configure the settings (dose & rate), then prime, then attach to the patient to run it.

    • @ianjuarez4579
      @ianjuarez4579 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jen Ortega if you have the tube attached to the patient during priming, it will force air into their tube, which can be dangerous and cause discomfort.

    • @Shieldhealthcare
      @Shieldhealthcare  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Teressa, If you mean you want to calculate the rate to run formula over a period that is longer than an hour, take the total volume you want delivered and divide it by the # of hours you want it to run. For example, if you want to run 250ml over 2 hours, then 250ml divided by 2hrs = 125ml/hr and this is the rate you will set on the pump.

    • @Shieldhealthcare
      @Shieldhealthcare  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Peter Foster Hi there! To answer your question, or if anyone else has this question:
      If the pump is in EZ Mode, this mode does not allow you to set a volume or intermittent feeds. All you can do is set the rate. If you would like to do more than set the rate, you will need to take the pump out of EZ Mode.
      Here are instructions on how turn EZ Mode on and off, which are on page 20 in the pump manual (www.covidien.com/imageServer.aspx?contentID=35727&contenttype=application/pdf)
      1. Turn the pump on and while the kangaroos are hopping across the screen, press the top left-hand arrow.
      2. Choose BioTech Screen.
      3. Click on the arrow next to EZ Mode to check or uncheck EZ Mode (a check means it is in EZ Mode).
      Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks for asking!

    Why clog in line Downstream of pump error keep coming on

    • @amycarrera8969
      @amycarrera8969 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A Flow Error, or downstream occlusion between the pump and the patient could be related to a kink or air in the pump bag tubing. If clearing the line or replacing the pump bag doesn't solve the problem, then check for a clog in the patient's feeding tube or extension set. Here's some info on resolving a clogged feeding tube: www.shieldhealthcare.com/community/nutrition/2015/12/03/tube-feeding-how-to-unclog-your-feeding-tube-video/. Hope that helps!

    How do you set the rate? For instance if i do not want the feed to spread over an hour, how can i make it go for like 15 minutes or 30 minutes. Because my son has a G tube and he also feeds by mouth as well. Some times he does not take the whole feed. and the rest is given through the pump. he takes 120 ml, so if he take half. do i really have to give the other 60 over and hours time?

    • @Shieldhealthcare
      @Shieldhealthcare  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wavy Henchmen Hi there! Here is the answer from our Corporate RD:
      If you want to cut the time in half to deliver the 60mL, double the rate. You will put 60mL in the bag and set the pump to run at 120mL/hr for it to finish in half the time (30 minutes).
      Here’s the math:
      To calculate the rate to set on the pump for anything other than one hour:
      -Convert hours to minutes.
      Example: 1 hour = 60 minutes
      -Divide the number of minutes you want the pump to run into 60 min.
      Example: 60 minutes divided by 30 min = 2
      -Multiply that number by the amount of formula that you want to deliver.
      Example: 2 x 60mL = 120mL/hr.
      This is the rate you will set on the pump. If you put 60mL in the bag and run it at 120mL/hour it will finish in about 30 minutes.
      This also works if you want to deliver 60mL over more than one hour, for example for 90 minutes:
      60 min divided by 90 minutes = 0.67
      0.67 x 60mL = 40mL/hr.
      This is the rate you will set the pump to run for 60mL to finish in about 90 minutes.
      Please let us know if you have any questions! Thanks.

      set the dose for 120 ml, then set the feed rate at 480 ml per hour. it should stop at 120 approx 15 minnuits. to do a 30 minnuit delivery, set the feed rate at 240 ml per hour, set dose at 120 ml, it should stop in approx 1/2 hour

    • @amylongcarrera1402
      @amylongcarrera1402 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Phoenix bennu Hi there, here goes!
      If you are experiencing a FLOW ERROR on the screen, the manufacturer’s instructions are as follows:The FLOW ERROR screen appears when either the formula or water is no longer being delivered due to a clog, air bubble or kink in the tubing between the pump and the patient. Check the tubing to find the reason for the blockage. If nothing is visible and there is no clog in the patient’s feeding tube, check the valve pocket in the pump loading set area for dampness or dust, which may be a cause for false error. Clean and dry this area and start the feed again. If still not resolved, try loading another set or feeding bag, prime it and
      press continue to restart the feeding.
      You may also have a dose set so that the pump is programmed to stop running when a certain amount of formula or water has been delivered or you may have the pump set on intermittent feedings. Check your settings. You may want to have the pump in EZ Mode. In this very basic mode the pump starts when you start the feeding and doesn’t stop until you stop it or it runs out of formula or water. You don’t set a volume to be delivered, or dose. You know your pump is in EZ mode if there is an EZ next to the battery symbol in the lower right hand corner of the screen while the pump is running.
      To change or check the mode, access the Biotech Options screen in this way: Turn the pump off. Now turn it back on and while the kangaroos are jumping across the screen, press and hold the top arrow button. Press the arrow for Biotech Options and check or un-check EZ Pump Mode depending on which you prefer. Now press done.
      If you want to be able to set the dose , or volume to be delivered, you cannot be in EZ mode. To set the dose, press More on the opening menu to access the More Options menu and choose continuous, then done. You can adjust the feed rate and dose (volume to be delivered, or VTBD) in the Adjust Feed screen.
      I hope that helps! If you need more information, you can access a PDF of the operator’s manual here: www.covidien.com/imageServer.aspx?contentID=35727&contenttype=application/pdf
