    This large dent over the wheel arch was a real eyesore for the customer and he didn’t want to take it to the bodyshop even though I had advised him to because of the cracked paint. however, the customer was not too fussed about the damaged paint as he was not too precious of this car and because a PDR repair would still be massively cheaper than a bodyshop respray, he was happy to just touch in the broken paint himself afterwards.

    I know what you are thinking, “why bother… It needs respraying, the paint is damaged!!!” However, the customer just wanted me to remove the dent for him as he wasn’t too bothered about the cracked paint. He was happy to just touch that in himself afterwards.

    Nice repair Jake, the option to save the panel definitely allows for a paint option down the track and keeps better value in the vehicle well worth it in my opinion 👍

      Hey Bill, I hope you're well. Yes I totally agree. My only concern was more paint falling off during the repair! In fact a tiny bit did on one of the top cracks but luckily it wasn't too bad. All the best, Jake

    You are a magician! I would rather do PDR than have my car butchered and bondo’d. I think most body repairs should start with PDR.

    • @1st_track_dents
      @1st_track_dents  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it's a much better alternative to filler/bondo, lots of PDR tech's go into bodyshops and do 'Push to Paint' repairs which helps reduce the time on their repairs and keeps them much cleaner. 👍

      Thanks Kevin, I use the whole Adobe suite of products. All of these are made using Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator & Photoshop. I've been using Adobe products for years as I studied product design at Uni back in 2003 and had to use some of these programs but we were never taught how to use them, I have self taught myself. Yes there are lots of videos on Skillshare on how to use these programs. People generally don't want to pay for editing software so opt for the free ones but if you want them to look professional, the paid ones are far superior! Final Cut pro and Davici Resolve are also very popular programs for this type of editing too. 👍

      Hi Jonathan, if you mean an Aluminium painted car body panel, then I would just treat it the same as a mild steel panel but maybe just keep playing around with the different heat settings of the panel and drying time and eventually you will get the right pull. Glue pulling can be too complicated to go into on here as there are so many variables and types of glue. There are many glue pulling tutorials on TH-cam that might be able to help you. Good luck 👍

For those type of videos I would suggest maybe looking at some of the USA tech's as they have lots more interesting tools, I only use a handful of tools, I badly need to invest in new stuff. Real World PDR Training does some great videos on start tools or if you are in the UK maybe you could chat to Kevin over at TDN PDR now Keco UK I'm sure he could help you out with tools. @@1st_track_dents Im in the States, im just impressed with what you do and was wondering what you carry in your car, you never see techs here with car jack to lift a car they just seem to struggle through the job. • @1st_track_dents
      @1st_track_dents  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jonathan, the answer is that I don't carry that much. Yes, Jim is a really nice guy and an amazing PDR tech! I love his content and I've chatted to him briefly over some TH-cam comments and he is really down to earth and has always been kind enough to comment on my videos. We differ slightly because I think he has an addiction to buying tools lol! which is great as USA techs can earn amazing money from PDR, far more than a UK tech could ever earn, I think the motor trade is just far more respected there. You also have all the best tool companies over there in the USA too, so can probably get your hands on most tools. Whereas with me, for various reasons I don't really get to invest in tools that often so I have to choose wisely what I buy or make my own. Also being a mobile tech I don't have lots of space for lots of tools in my car, so over the years I have narrowed down all my tools to what I can actually can get away with, which is about 10 or so tools that I can pretty much do everything with. If I had a workshop like Jim, working in the USA, I too would probably fill the walls up with tons of bars as it's always great to have lots of choice when repairing dents. I just have to be a bit more creative with what I have. But yes an Aluminium Trolley jack is an essential piece of kit and it gets used daily so definitely get one! All the best, Jake 👍

      @@jonathanrighetti5897 Yes, I guess if all the tech's can come together to set the prices that could have a great impact on getting what you deserve. I know a lot of tech's here are starting to use mobileTech RX for their pricing but unless everyone is using it, another tech will just come along and undercut you. A lot of customers here are driven by the cost as they are only leasing cars, so have no personal attachment to it. The customers who have the nice cars here though are prepared to pay the right price as they know that they will get a good job. Hopefully over here in time we will get the right money for what we do and deserve but by then I will have retired 😂

      @@1st_track_dents thanks! I’m very much the kind of guy that doesn’t want to waste my time or money. I do a lot of body work on my own vehicles but I’d love to learn how to do this. Been watching a lot of your videos lately to prep for this Mazda my girl just bought that was rear ended. Might actually be looking to start my own little dent repair deal. I like doing body work but it’s too messy and hazardous. Love the idea of making things look like new again without a big mess.

      @@TheForerunner117 Yes I started out as a panel beater years ago so I know how messy that can be, I've had metal fragments in my eye, welding spatter go in my ear and probably breathed in lots of bad dust and fumes over the years, so yes PDR is much cleaner and safer and very satisfying! I wish you lots of luck on the Mazda!

      @@1st_track_dents oh you know it. Slag in the ear has to be the scariest thing I’ve ever heard of lol… I think a few more of your videos and I’ll be good enough to get her to your final step for the fine tuning, I think that’s when I’m going to need to exercise patience. I make a lot of things, (knives, wood working stuff, leather goods etc) so I saw that video where you used that guy’s leather coated hammer deal and I think I’d make myself one of those. Looks like it’s really satisfying to use. Might even consider turning some of my own tap downs. I tend to collect skills and hobbies and try to come up with new tools and stuff to make it easier for me to learn/perfect. Seriously looking forward to pushing some of these dents 👌🏻

      @@TheForerunner117 Yes, there is a lot of satisfaction in making and using your own tools, sounds like you have all the skills. I'm very much into 3D printing some of my own tools at the moment but want to up my machining skills to lathe and CNC work. All the best with the future, be good to see some of your own homemade tools sometime 👍

    Do you sand after every PDR repair?

    • @1st_track_dents
      @1st_track_dents  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, most of the time on the average dents no sanding is required, but I still polish the panel to clean it up and remove any marks. I only wet sand if the dent has damaged the orange peel texture of the paintwork, however you have to be very careful only to sand it a little as you can end up with a flat spot that will really show up. 👍

      Thanks Dave, I can highly recommend Ben from Trident PDR: tridentpdrltd.com/ he is in Sheffield or there is Martin from Dent-Remover, a bit further over in Hull - dent-remover.co.uk/ Both are amazing tech's, I don't know of anyone closer to you, but it would be worth the travel to either of these guys...Good Luck 👍

      Hi Dave after speaking to Martin from dent remover, he tells me that Graham from Dent Detail PDR is local to you, he is also a very good tech and I have seen some of his work online too and he really knows his stuff: dentdetailpdr.com/
      Hope this helps. 👍

      Most of these tools are made in the USA, so you will be able to get you hands on these tools easily with only local shipping needed. Or look up Mobile Tech Expo, these are shows in the USA where you can try out and see all the latest PDR tools in the industry. 👍

    As you can see I am taking great care to tap down the highs... Actually no, I couldn't. You have plenty of ads but are skipping the detail we need to see.

    • @1st_track_dents
      @1st_track_dents  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Steve, sorry about that, but you have to remember that these videos are just examples of my work they are not lessons. Have you seen how expensive PDR courses are? I give all of this information for free. The ad revenue I receive from the ads is very little and only barely covers the cost of the monthly Adobe subscription for the editing software and for the music licensing etc. It takes me many days and nights to edit these videos when I could be doing many more PDR jobs, earning better money. If you are interested in learning PDR then maybe look at some of the monthly paid subscription platforms, they should give you all the information you need without any ads but you will have to pay monthly for the information. Thank you for the feedback, I hope that helps 👍
