Tiffen's Volt System is meant to enhance an existing Steadicam rig with horizontal stabilization, allowing the operator to seamlessly switch between fully manual and assisted operation. At Cine Gear 2024, we had a chance to talk with Nick from Tiffen and get an up-close look at the newest version in their Volt line, the Volt 3. While it's still only a prototype, Version 3 has an interesting new feature. Let’s see what it has to offer!

Who much praise
Eliminating the annoying parts of steadicam operating LOL.....the actual skills required since the inception of the machine. Now any donkey can do it?....get ready for another wave of 1sts, 2nds, Grips, PA's...buying rigs with high interest loans ready to undercut everyone to get jobs. Tiffen is actually destroying the niche of steadicam operator. What happens when this new volt stops receiving power? Dead?

I found that Steadicam community is full of gatekeepers... Arguing against this is no different from people breaking machines in early 1900s. Steadicam with new Axis on the market has already become way more accessible, cameras are tiny today and 20 pound load capacity is more than enough for most. It is just a tool in the end it still requires an artist to use it properly.
No, it just means you can be a small woman and still get shots that only a Steadicam can get. It's about making that technology more accessible. That's not a bad thing.
