    I had just broken up with my high school sweetheart the summer of its release. I remember standing in line for a roller coaster at an amusement park while it was broadcast from the park's sound system. I was struck by the subtle discord of the antagonist' s head and heart. His head (the lyrics)saying he's not in love, his heart (the sound) feeling as if he's head over heels in love. The idea that someone may claim they don't love you, while they secretly do, somehow softened the grief, helping me to endure the loss. Thanks for the memory!

    This is a PERFECT headphone song! Hearing that heavenly chorus coming from the middle of your brain is like an out of body experience.

    I found this video from your Reddit post on a Prog Rock subreddit and this is 10 times better than what I thought it would be. Fantastic editing here and pretty informative. I can’t wait to see more videos about other bands that need more respect.

      Thank you so much man, really appreciate it. Yeah I’ve got another one in the books for an interesting story on a different song in the 70s, you’ll have to see what one it is soon….;)

    Some other iconic tunes that used lush vocal choir were: Theme from Harry's Game (Clannad), Just the way you are (Billy Joel), Lady in Red (Chris DeBurgh)

      Good mentions. In the video I even talk about Billy Joel using I’m Not in Love as direct inspiration for Just the Way You Are, it’s a great way to fill the palette according to him

    Awesome video! I grew up listening to my sister’s copy of 10cc that she picked up new at a college concert (I still have that vinyl!). She didn’t like it but to me there was something special about every song even though the whole record was strange to a kid on a Texas farm in the ‘70’s. I still find myself singing “Johnny Don’t Do It” surprisingly remembering at least most of the words. I’ve never known another 10cc fan. “I’m Not In Love” was soooo different that for years I didn’t know it was them! But it’s always been one of the most beautiful and stunning songs I’ve ever heard. Thanks, man!!

      Thank for the kind words and story!! As a British guy, it’s strange to know that this video has spread to American people haha, but I’m glad you enjoyed it :)

    Well, I was thirteen when this came out and remember it being constantly played on the radio. Obviously, like most listeners at the time I had no clue as to the complexity of its structure. I think Mike Oldfield probably made use of this technique on Tubular Bells. It also gave Will to Power its biggest hit.

      @joemcneill1180  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah another commenter made me aware of Will to Power and their version, crazy to think a song is so good, it can give a band their best known song haha

    Nice! 10cc is the best music ever made for me. Even now so many years later it gives me energy, It is a shame Kevin and Lol left but....we can still listen to their legacy. Amazing stuff.

    Ther r sooo-MANY GREAT-songz, 'out-there'! Yet (arguably!) this song, &, 'Dust-in-the-Wind' are2 of the MOST-memorable & MOST 'moving' songz ever-made. Yes, ther are MANY-MANY other 'moody' songz, which will kick you (one) right-in-the 'feels' -- such-az: the Korgis's - 'E.G.t.L.S.' & 'In this Shirt' by the Irrepressibles...., yet, '10cc' & 'Kansas' 'signature-songz will, live-FOREVER!!

    What about the secretary whispering?
    And the bass solo?
    Iconic as the vocals.
    Lacking.....

    • @joemcneill1180
      @joemcneill1180  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the production is the most iconic part personally, and the whispering/bass solo in the bridge section definitely adds to the atmosphere in a way I love. I just didn't account for it during the writing of this video as I think it speaks for itself, but it is VERY much an amazing touch to transition back into the final section of the song

      @@joemcneill1180 in my opinion, I'm not in love is in an album which deserves a complete analysis by the concept it carries, that is to say the clichés in cinema and pop culture. The Original Soundtrack is an art-rock album that arrives in a pivotal period of the 70s with a meta discourse on culture, the way of receiving and listening to music. How Dares You deserves just as much attention and Godley&Creme's albums are not well known enough (Freeze Frame is a pure gem).

    How timeless is this song? It was played so much on radio in the 1990s that it was only a few years ago, that I found out it wasn't a '90s song.

    • @joemcneill1180
      @joemcneill1180  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep, came out in 1975, a pretty great year for music in my opinion. I reckon that’s why I think it’s been so overshadowed by all their competition

      @@jeremypearson6852 I don't remember it being a female vocalist, but the timeframe is definitely right. Still, it's been three decades. I could be merging memories of it being on the radio with the song I'm used to hearing. That is, the memories of it being on the radio would be the Will to Power version, but the actual song I remember is the 10cc version because it's the only one I listened to since rediscovering it when the interwebs came along.
