I’ve owned my ‘18 GT for over three years. It can be a bit twitchy on the highway in gusty conditions, though it is inherently stable. When I say inherently stable, I mean that it is predictable and will always return to tracking straight down the road. I certainly haven’t found this twitchiness to be a deal breaker by any means. I’ve simply grown accustomed to this characteristic and find it a terrific handling feature, making the bike feel incredibly light and nimble through the bends despite its bulk and relatively long wheelbase. And then there’s the engine, that glorious engine paired with a very good “Shift Assist Pro” optioned transmission.
I had originally planned to trade my GT in on the ‘21 1250 GS Adventure I currently own however the evening before I was to do the deal, I took the GT out for our last parting ride. The GT was just too good to give up, so I opted to keep it and continue to enjoy it. I’m glad Idid.
Give the GT a longer term assessment. You may find it’ll grow on you!

Great video by the way. Sorry I forgot to mention that in my first comment. The Sedona area looks epic. I really must check it out. It’ll be a bit of a trek to get there from Southern Vancouver Island….. but hey, that’s what the GT’s for!

I purchased a used GT a few years ago and yes, the bike felt squirrelly at highway. Very unlike a BMW. I found that the previous owner had installed. Dunlop tires. I replaced them with Pirelli’s and the bike stayed put. I also notice you ride with the windshield almost vertical and it’s not factory. Disturbing that wind flow like that will really upset the bike at higher speeds. If you get it right, the CVO will be a thing of the past 😁👍🏻 I also forgot to add that the large rear tail trunk is open to sit hitting it behind you. Try taking that off then ride the bike again OR drop a large luggage bag behind you on the seat and secure it. That also makes a difference by not leveraging the bike front end.

The top box with no passenger on the back seat, creates some instability on high speeds. For long journeys on highway it’s better to ride this bike without the top box and use only the side panniers . Additionally, I bet that at the same high speeds any motorcycle with a top box and traveling on solo, will experiment some difficulties also. There are no miracles. The one thing this bike is made for, is for munching miles. BMW knows what they’re doing. Although this is a bike you’ve got to learn riding because there are several settings to adjust to the way each pilot wants to ride and adaptation must be easily made by changing several aspects that make a big difference on the riding sensation. But if you got all these right, this bike is a missile. That six cilindres in line engine is a piece of art.
      Ride safe ✌🏻✌🏻

Having come from big harley tourers to a 2023 one of these (actually a GT version) its a fact you can feel more in the air but there is an immense difference in seat height that comes into play and that is what is creating your uncertainty. After a while as you become more familiar with the ride I can say it becomes the new normal and more comfortable than the seating height of the Harley. Cheers.

I think they maybe that high mounted trunk may also have something to do with that "unstable" feeling. Try removing it to see if that remedies it.

I've owned multiple CVO's an a K1600. Comfort and suspension on the K1600 is worlds better. Acceleration is like a rocket ship on the K1600. CVO get's the win in looks and entertainment system, but all the other aspects of comfort, speed, and maneuverability/canyon carving go to the K model. The twitchyness you describe is the ability of the K model to fall into corners. Very nimble bike that eats up the twisty roads...unlike the CVO. I've had the K1600 on the tail of the dragon...ate it up.

I have a GT and it's stable at 220kph. Never ridden a gtl. I think tires make a huge difference too. I'm on my 3rd set and went for a different brand to the OEM and it's dead stable even in hectic wind.

I have been renting a GT and no problems at riding high speeds. Now I own a GT with a top case mounted and it appears to be a different machine. Especially with winds directly blowing to the front it feels wobbly above 120k/ph. I need to testdrive it though without the top case mounted.

Need to check the air pressure in the rear tire as to much air in back will load the front 17 inch tire when riding one up. Drop to 38 psi in rear tire. Also stock tires are junk. Install Michelin. Or Perelli. Tires. I have a 2022 GSA GTL and 2022Duck V4S multi. If I do big highway miles the GTL is the go to bike. Rode 1600 miles in 4 days on the GTL top speed around 115 and felt very planted. I would recommend checking air pressure before riding a test bike and tire brand.

  • @davesunderland1026

If you think the bike is unstable then it is you not the K1600. I’ve owned 3 of them, total of 180,000 klms across 3 bikes and it outperforms my HD road glide, or my Indian Darkhorse, you just need to ride it before 5 mins to form a view

Definitely not stable versus my Harley on the highway. Wind blows the bike around. If you take off the windshield it’s much more stable. Still not as planted as a Harley.

  • @desi_enthusiast
    @desi_enthusiast 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

I have owned a 2013 K1600 GTL for a while now and I find it extremely stable at high speeds if the windshield is in a lower setting. Otherwise, this is the best touring bike out there and I ride a lot of bikes for my own tests.
At the higher windshield position it gets helmet buffeting but otherwise it is just unbelievable. The transAmerica is what is unstable though.
After keeping it the only replacement for it is a new k1600 except transAmerica version.
    Here is a brief video
