They also sunset like a third of the maps we had and then took more than a year to release a new one, which was disjunction. PvP started to recover around 30th anniversary, but 3.0 subclasses kicked it back into its grave, where it rests since. Had some hope with checkmate, but then prismatic released. It's like an abusive relationship at this point.
I don't think it was the OP abilities that killed Crucible. It was undoubtedly because Bungie management actively decided not to develop any new content for it for four years. And when they eventually opted to change course, the content made for it was but a small trickle. People can only play the same maps and modes for so long before they get bored and move on. I think the new classes, aspects, fragments and abilities (broken as many of them were) was one of the few things keeping players in PvP.
Exaclty, even though Strand Warlock is currently the lowest pick in PvP, it is among my favorite subclasses in PvP to use. And it was a blast to try when it first came out. I am really annoyed though that it was nerfed heavily because of Hunter threadling spam
when they took maps away was the last straw for me, then when the reintroduced some of the same maps they took away and expected people to be greatful and kiss their feet was the coffin.
Completely disagree. Crucible is so unreadable these days with ability spam. Mostly abilities that deal damage are the problem. Ice Lance, Arc Slide, all the smokes, clones, radar pings. PVP was in a great state pre-Prismatic, after the HP changes and the Ability CD nerfs. The weapon meta was solid, the gameplay pace, readability all felt solid. Felt like 30th anniversary all over again. Then Prismatic comes out, and its just been cancer ever since. All the ability and chip damage caused by abilities has pushed everyone towards passive gameplay, since you are incredibly punished for pushing. Trying to 1v2 feels nearly impossible now, as the 2nd person just needs to throw 1-2 abilities at you and you cant counter-play it. Fixing all this would actually be pretty simple. 1) Knockout no longer procs an Ice Lance against players in PVP. must actually land an ability kill. 2) Arc Slide (Lightning Surge) now requires an Arc Melee to work (Chain Lightning) so no more 3x charges. 3) Prismatic Hunter, swap out Swarm Grenades with another Solar Grenade like Thermite. 4) Smoke Bomb no longer lingers when destroyed by enemy players. Right there, you just fixed a TON of issues with Crucible and made the game better. For Weapon Meta: 1) 340 RPM Pulses nerfed to 300 RPM Pulses (this gives them the same TTK as Aggressive Pulses ~.74) 2) 120 RPM HCs all given 15 Zoom (up from 14). They currently have a 1.5 zoom range scaler. 3) 140 RPM HCs given a 1.4 zoom Range Scaler (down from 1.5 zoom). Then add 1meter Range to the floor (0 range) so lower range HCs dont feel as bad. 4) Graviton Lance moved back to 300 RPM (down from 324 RPM). All other Heavy Bursts can stay 324 RPM.
18:00 Yep, Hunter smoke is the single most broken ability in the game. It can be thrown, has proximity detonation, and once detonated, causes the target to be slowed, weakened, blinded, removes their radar, AND does tick damage, while also causing the Hunter to be Radiant. The dev who cooked that up should be fired.

Abilities should have upsides and downsides like, for example, weighted throwing knife - you have to score a headshot, otherwise you are dead from enemy shooting. Kinda similar situation with penumbral blast - you have to get within melee range in 1 second to score a kill which is not guaranteed or withering blade where you either have to be precise or bounce it of the wall to get slow on enemy. Smoke literally has no downsides, works at any range, has functionality better than most grenades and a lower cooldown as well and completely blocks off points of entry for at least 8 seconds...
One of the most recent PvP changes that I strongly dislike is the Green Ammo crates popping up around the map. It's incredibly annoying to have to stop and hold the interact button to collect ammo. There are moments where I'll get sniped collecting ammo, or to avoid a flag from being taken, I have to ignore the crate to rush the objective. In my opinion, ammo crates are counter intuitive to the overall aspect of Destiny PvP.
Frabo on strand hunter back in lightfall was a diff breed, I still run your cyrtarachne facade build till this day, that woven mail has definitely saved my ass more times then I can count especially in trials
Instant freeze and wall hacks are tied to exotics. I’m assuming instant freeze you’re talking about warlock melee or a shot from cyrostesia? Which requires a kill to proc. As for the wall hacks, they’re tied to an exotic, you have the ability to run the same exotic(s) nobody is stopping you from using them. And if you really really don’t like it that much, just don’t play. These things have always had a way of balancing themselves over time.
Like you either take ALL abilities out of PVP and make it strictly gunplay or don’t touch any of them. You can’t just pick and choose what abilities are allowed and what aren’t. I mean there really isn’t anything more satisfying than freezing someone with cryostesia and then annihilating them with a sniper.

Also does anyone know if its a glitch that your strand swing only gets one charge after you die the first time. Like you completely lose the second one and even when it goes to count towards the second one it just resets the timer when you die. Is that a glitch or does bungie only want us to have a max of one strand swing inside of pvp now
Honestly, I feel like the darkness subclasses and abilities are just not balanced for PvP. It's hard to add hard CC into a game and expect it to be even remotely balanced when the TTK is around half a second for most primary weapons.

As a hunter main my absolute go to subclass is strand its so fun! And thorn is my favourite hand canon! Additionally a lucky pants enjoyer in pvp so this build is made for me. Shame i suck at pvp 🤣
I won’t lose any sleep if they nerf knuckle head radar but as of right now, I am going to use it in IB because I am constantly getting horrible teammates and I need to create an advantage somewhere. I had someone get a .16 with 0 caps, I’m not gonna feel bad about using KHR when bungie is giving me teammates like that.
Put on Graviton that's all you need. I'm like 3kd 4kda over 1500kills just mindlessly shooting people with Graviton, bonus points for killing supers while on the losing team to help you not get runned down when they start popping 500 supers.
I use graviton sometimes too. Either way, SBMM doesn’t seem to apply to my teammates because I get some straight up bots on my team that just get farmed and don’t understand flag advantage. Iron Banner is just a garbage experience all around because of how lopsided matches are.

I'm sure the enemy team enjoys playing against a team of over 2kd players and the weakest guy on that team still being like a 1.7. Good matchmaking.

Then players will whine about how there’s nothing to use.

whenever you use your melee try catch it with the melee button when you can, if you catch it you get half melee energy back
