My God! These amazing lyrics! "Highly strung like nervous guitars; my fingers make waves in you!" I haven't heard this in years! They were soooo good! Thanks! ♫
My LP is long gone...can't find "This Is the Ice Age" via iTunes...wah! Many thanks for posting this. It's so evocative...of what, I can't put into words, it's too, erm, metaphysical.
Thank you random person - I was playing a series of songs, mood and alcohol based, for my gf/fiance/partner, and this was the next natural step. I'm so happy I can randomly type in a lyric or two and someone has taken the time to post the song I'm thinking of. God this is still so beautiful .
Martha and I learned that ‘This Is The Ice Age’, recorded in 1981 and co-produced with Daniel Lanois, has been shortlisted for this year’s Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize in the 1976 - 1985 category. We are surprised, honoured and hope that you will vote for us here: polarismusicprize.ca/heritage-prize/2016-short-list/ Voting ends Oct. 17/16 and the results are announced Oct. 24/16
thanks for posting this...i loved this band. had a hard time tracking the cd format of this album but i succeeded. it's great to open up the archives to an audience that today wouldn't know the difference between "alternative and gunge"
Time for a funny story, youtube: Back in late 2003 (I was about 15) or so my dad purchased a new iPod and some sweet portable speakers. Then he turned this song into his alarm for 6:25 AM. Even though I was down the hall it was loud as hell and scared me half to death, but I wound up really liking this song once I heard it a few more times. tl;dr: troll dad makes positive impact on my musical tastes
As legend has it for U2 to secure Eno he had to bring Lanois on as an assistant co producer. Eno was deathly afraid of regular rock bands like U2 and turned down and or botched chances like Ultravox first LP. Now U2 was very much Eno -ites and they would have said yes to anything but it must been difficult for they to let Danny actually do the main production and Eno come in and do his asides. The Unforgettable fire was resume builder for sure and no way Eno/Lanois would have been mainstreamed otherwise.
ditto that. for the longest time the only had a cover on TH-cam which was slowed down and sucked royally. This track is awesome...M & M were a great Canadian New Wave band.
Felix Hebert Martha and the Muffins were not influenced by The Stranglers, they were influenced by Roxy Music. The band came up with their own styles anyways, which makes them unique.

The Gains
What a great album it was!!!
I'd forgotten this album, it's pretty good … memories of art school in the 80s
A great time in music where many bands were experimenting with African rhythms like Talking Heads, A Certain Ratio, Slits etc.
I finally found this tune. Have not herd it in years. Seeing the album cover brings back memories.
Fantastic song I only heard once or twice growing up.. Awesome guitar riff! Thanks for posting!
This is just a wicked tune..timeless!
Awesome guitar riff! Only heard this song once or twice on the radio growing up. Nice to hear that it isn't at all dated.. Thanks for posting.

Thank you for posting this. 80's kid here and I loved this song
This was also the first album produced by Daniel Lanois . His sister Jocelyn played bass in this band as well as co-writing this song!!
Go Canada!!

Io sono innamorato di questo album e di questa canzone!
Grazie.
A Canadian classic. M & M. Sonic masterpiece.
"we're afraid to call it love lets call it swimming"
I remember the old facade on the B of M building in the background cover art. I miss the old T.O. What'd they do to my city.
we're afraid to call it love, let's call it swimming..
No better or worse, keyboard and guitar=pure love.
No problem. It's always been one of my favorites.
