Thank you for stories such as this. Probably won't make it to the Cape anytime soon so it's nice to travel virtually through your fabulous stories. 🙂☀️🌺
As far as the pruning goes, here on the Oregon coast, it doesn't matter when you prune. We have over 150 bushes; and I prune as I pick them for bouquets, as well as deadheading the spent blooms all summer and fall. Look for the two little nodes above the leaves on the green part of the stem. If you prune too far into the hardened wood, they'll take a blooming year off; however, it's sometimes necessary when the bush is overgrown and needs reshaping. Enjoy!
What a luscious story! I'm from San Francisco and I grew up with Golden Gate Park my garden...hydrangeas were everywhere, but not in all the colors in this garden, and not "plush"...Actually, the blue/purple variety were everywhere, and I hate to admit it now, I took them for granted!
I snuck into a neighbor's yard when I was 4 years old and stole all the hydrangeas. I made flower cakes. I did get in a lot of trouble. I have a flower shop now. My shop sign has hand painted blue hydrangeas on it.
Yes you can! Morning sun afternoon shade and H2O and there you go. I would recommend the endless summer series. They all bloom on new wood, so pruning is not an issue.
"Some people do this(on purpose).." others huh, not you tho right?!? You wouldn't want to attract attention & make money off people touring your property.. right?? Just admit it.. it's only mixing dirt hun
Could've watched an entire hour about these beautiful plants! :)
My grandmother had a row of hydrangeas across the side of her house. Always wondrous for me as a child to see those huge blooms 🥲
