reading the comments the ending is yes not satisfying now but back then before the end of WW2 there was a stern warning from the judge that was the crimes of the Nazis would be judged and punished by all people of the world and this was a warning and of course became fact at the Nuremberg Trials at the end of WW2. This movie was in my opinion to give hope to those who suffered judgement day was coming and evil would not prevail. An intelligent film designed to show that the Allies knew what was happening and it would not go unpunished.
I thought the movie was excellent, I only question if the narration at the end was part of the actual movie since the United Nations didn't exist in 1944.
You have to keep in mind that, at the time this movie was made, the war was still going on. In the end the message was that the war could end with either the triump of peace and brotherhood or the triump of evil and chaos was very well in the hands of the victor, the aqudience this movie was intended for.
German science in rocketry, jet aviation, and gruesomely, the medical testing, was astronomically advanced in knowledge the U.S. didn't have. Better that we got as many as we did before Stalin's crushing Communism made these Germans prisoner. We walked on the moon because we had the best German scientists.
Unfortunately, too many of the scenes in this movie are true for someone in Germany and Poland. And this kind of stuff is happening somewhere today still.
At the beginning of the credits, one of the first things to appear is the copyright date in Roman numerals, which indicates it to be 1942. However, unless the movie was copyrighted and held for release at a later date, it is incorrect. I went online to verify the actual date of the movie, and I found many references. But everything I could find says that it is a 1944 movie. Regardless, aided by hindsight, we should applaud those responsible for this movie for having been blessed with the foresight to make the ending as close to reality as it did. I do not understand nor do I make excuses for my compulsion for the accuracy of details in the most trivial matters which most would overlook. At 81 years of age, I think maybe I should have tried changing decades ago or just accepted myself as I am.
I would accept yourself if I were you - I'd be the same with these particular years. To say a lot happened in those two years would be an understatement.! But then maybe this 60 year old is pedantic too 😂
France, England, Canada and the other British Colonies were fighting, even Isreali Troops went to England. But the worst county, I think, was hit was Poland. MANY Jewish people from Poland were killed. Some were from my family in WW2. And Russians fought against Poland also at the beginning 😢
YES, NOW WE HAVE A CRIMINAL WHO IS GOING TO BE SWORN IN AS OUR PRESIDENT...THE TRIALS WERE NOT A JOKE TO ANYONE EXCEPT SOMEONE WHO STANDS WITH CRIMINALS.
@@michaelmatthewkomaromigabr9588 Many of them were on the same side. Roosevelt, Churchill, Royal families & the Rothschilds who paid for it. The war game was a wonderful victory for them, playing with humanity's lives, knowing everything that was going to happen months/weeks before it did. Even Pearl Harbour!

Excellent movie! I only wish the ending were different.

None shall escape, the US will just adopt them and put them in prominent places here in this country and protect them for the rest of their lives
A whole lot of countries !
Operation Paperclip
20/20 hindsight is a wonderful thing. Unfortunately the makers of this movie had no such tool at their disposal.

Interesting film that i guess not many have viewed or have the patience to view 🎬
clarence the angel from its a wonderful life is put in a sticky situation here. he probably had not received his wings yet
Take the full context of the war in 1942, when this was made. Mind blowing stuff! Slow yet utterly chilling.. ❤
Released before the end of the war, told without the coloring of hindsight.
its a glacially paced morality lecture ... its really far from the gruesome reality of war crimes trials, but probably pretty good for 1943

Unfortunately the Nazis survived in Germany an in the world...then and now... denying the atrocities and have never learned humanity
0:08 MCMXLIII is 1943, not 1942. Details matter.
Actually it says it was released in 1944, but yes, Germany still controlled Poland at the time.
Love it dey past
Most realistic WW2 movie ever made.
All will but none shall...
Great movie 21/23/24
And now in the Middle East we have an ongoing repeat while the world looks on
You mean we have a Country fighting for survival against Islamist Backed Terrorists.
Im surprised how it ends.

@@peterblahut5106 There were no Israeli troops. Israel didn't exist until 1948.
Interesting that they chose to make such a movie while the war was still raging on..?
Great movie but these trials were a joke. This is how great political powers get theirpeople to believe a terrible lie. Look around you now.

And what about the allied war crimes? They never paid for them
WHAT WAR CRIMES DID THE ALLIES COMMIT?

Remember, the Victor writes the history.
Oddly enough, Harry Cohn, the head of Columbia, kept a photo of Mussolini on his desk.
wouldn't call it odd, in hindsight - they & Hollywood were invented by the same entity.
Grims last words have been on the mark nazks afe baaaaack thanks to operation paperclip
