Subcompact SUVs have been gaining in popularity over the last few years. For people who don't need or want the space of a midsize SUV or for those who just want to save a few bucks, a subcompact SUV is a smart and economical choice. These extra-small SUVs maintain that elevated ride height and utility of their larger counterparts, but their smaller size means easier parking and better gas mileage. What's not to like? In this video, Mark Takahashi runs down our choices for the best subcompact SUVs for 2021-2022. From the Subaru Crosstrek, the new Chevy Trailblazer and Hyundai Kona to the more luxurious BMW X1, Audi Q3 and Volvo XC40, Mark gives a breakdown of each pint-sized SUV. What do we like and dislike about each? What should you know about them? How do they rank in each category? Mark explains all. So whether you're a first-time driver, you have a small family or you're just looking for something fun to drive, we've got you covered in this video of the 2021 Top Subcompact SUVs.

We have a 2021 Outdoor model Crosstrek , this model has the bigger motor..which was the only thing the Crosstrek needed to be almost perfect in everyday driving..one of the best all wheel drive systems and we love the washable interior and neat little cargo light which is very helpful at night when taking things from the hatch….all in all we’re really pleased ..we’re easily getting 800 Kms per tank on just over sixty litres …impressive

After careful consideration of all the information from this great car review video, I am now the proud owner of a 2021 Honda HR-V EX AWD. Not only does its clever interior design give me more cargo room utility, but after 5 years, I expect to have a lower cost of operation with a higher percent of resell value than any subcompact SUV mentioned in this TH-cam video.

congrats on the new purchase, I had owned a HRV 3 years ago, but i have recently seen the side crash results for HRV it was the worst of the segment. I am glad I switched to CRV. I have to admit CRV is not as nimble and fun to drive as the HRV and it used much more fuel. beside the safety nature and the bouncy rear suspension, it is a good usable SUV

@@AL-kc4kg, The CRV is a great vehicle and better choice than the HR-V for families. I saw the 2021 crash results of the HR-V you referred to. I noticed they increased the speed and weight of the impact vehicle that produced the poor side-impact crash results. Still, compared to other vehicle in the test group, it was a disappointment.

I got a '21 Crosstrek Premium back in May. The base engine definitely lacks oomphf and I wouldn't say it's a thrilling ride, but it's a super solid comprehensive package. At the end of the day, it just feels very practical with useful, if unexciting, design choices.

The problem is that Subaru’s long term reliability is iffy at best. Their cvt is among the worst. But I understand that the XV can be had in a manual.

I have test drove alot of these suvs in this list/review. Even purchased a couple & I'll just go ahead & say it... I never really was a fan of Buicks, however, the Buick Encore GX is where its at!!! Beautiful exterior that only gets better depending on the paint job &/or the rims on these. 18in rims are wrapped with Hankook tires that handle just as the vehicle itself = AMAZING! As appealing as the exterior is or can be, the interior has me feeling as tho I am driving a luxury suv that they could easily sell for 30-35grand. I wish I could post pics of it. I am going to have to disagree 100% with one of the "cons" which was a loud engine on the highways 🛣 Mine runs so quiet, that if I didn't know any better I'd swear it wasn't running. Deceptively QUICK if u were to get on the gas, whether to simply accelerate quickly, or to pass a slow person holding u & everyone else up 😆

The only car that will be trouble free for 200k plus is the Mazda. The rest will be endless money pits as they age: Transmissions will crap out, electronics will die, motors will burn oil or grenade & the Korean vehicles will catch fire. The worst thing about the Mazda is that the US model is made in Mexico so expect creaks & rattles from bad QC from South of the border as it ages. But given the choice I'll take that shortcoming versus thousands of dollars of repairs for the rest.

I own a 2017 Outlander Sport from new and my only grip is the seats are very uncomfortable for long range driving...Other than that I've had no issues with it at almost 80,000 miles on it. Also its feature to do front wheel drive, all wheel drive, and 4 wheel lock is amazing for all sorts of weather conditions and even light off road usage..

I own a 2022 Chevy Trailblazer. It’s not huge. I used to drive a 2005 Nissan pathfinder and it’s smaller than that. The Nissan pathfinder has a third row. The Chevy trailblazer does not. The older models were bigger I believe but the newer models are smaller. Chevorlet is discontinuing the trailblazer and I am not sure why. They are coming out the the 2024 equinox ev which looks like the larger version of the trailblazer. So idk
