Holy smokes - listening on my big PMC mastering monitors - THIS is the analog poly I've been waiting for. The girth, width, texture, and raw power - it's all there. Can't wait to play mine when it shows up!
listen to these on shit speakers..... sounds amazing..
@@superprim12 ha!
From the first second, my ears just started tingling, absolutely magnificent
This is more than likely Tom Oberheims last major synth!! At 86 years we had better if we can buy this great synth!! It sounds absolutely gorgeous!!
Seems like this lives up to the ob-x and although a limited sonic palette like all great instruments thats what makes then wonderful. We have strayed from limited perfection to unlimited mediocrity. When you think about it, a piano, a Rhodes or a guitar has a limited palette but most music is composed on them. Why isnt it enough for the synth community to love something that produces a few wonderful sounds. Why do we seek 10,000 presets?
only 10,000 presets? ??? 🤪
Damn well said, I agree 100%. A simple palette with some FX..it opens up a new world of sonic capabilities. Humans like to complicate things,I think this synth will help slow time down and with the split keys function open amazing realms sonically.
Of all the things to be upset about, "too many presets" is pretty low on the priority list. I could see I there were thousands, but who cares. I've had the Wavestate for almost a year, and finally started going thru the presets a few weeks ago! I hadn't erased them, since we can save thousands of our own presets, too, and they weren't getting "in the way" of anything else I was doing.
Human ear is capable of registering only a limited number of sounds that it perceives as pleasant.
That's why the original Fender sound will always be sought after, that's why genuine Oberheim sound will always be likeable.
They have THAT special color to them that human brain reacts positively to. It's difficult to describe in few words, and warmth would probably be included in that list.
I have OB-X8 on pre-order precisely for this reason, because I've always viewed Oberheim sound as the warmest and the most uniquely expressive of all synths.
If you're a player and not a habitual knob tweaker because you're never happy with any sound and your playing sucks, then OB-X8 is probably the instrument for you. If you're the other, then go back to your million options on other synths and try to impress people with your knob tweaking talents.
This is a player's instrument, and from what I could view so far, pretty damn good.
Judging by what my guy at Sweetwater tells me about the number of pre-orders, this is going to be a huge, huge seller.
Truly the problem with most synths today. Everything has to be different and versatile, but in doing so, creates so much mediocrity. Hence why analog synths are making a huge comeback. It’s just so big that these reissues sound absolutely stellar. Example, a polybrute sounds fairly mediocre to me. It can do some amazing things as a synth, but if the core of it sounds dull and uncompelling, then it doesn’t matter modulation wise, what it can do.
The prophet 10 sounds compelling, and it’s modulation is fairly limited, but the core of it is truly stunning sound, and that works better in my opinion.
It sounds AMAZING!
Great patches!
Unreal dude it sounds really really nice. All good patches!
Thank you so much, Jamie. My favourite synth + my favourite sound designer = maximum pleasure. :)
Bravo, Jamie! Great patch set.
Darkness is my fav!
Eminence and Mod Pluck are my jam too! Wow.
Great Job as always!
These patches are just gorgeous, Jamie. And the synth is the definition of fat and beautiful. So musical
Wonderful beautiful sounds, especially at 11:00 🌟 Not a CS replacement though 😂 such a different oscillator.
Looking forward to your official OB-X8 patch set. :)
So good. Doesn’t need effects!
Amazing patches, I approve!
Doing the synth Justice. Nice one. 13 mod pluck is everything yesssssss, 15 and 17 as well.
God bless Tom Oberheim ❤️
that sync sweep, is full Terminator arrival vibes
The one, the only!!!
Thanks
I really hope I can get my hands on one of these...
7:38 saving that for if i get this synth one day
"Eminence" is glorious
Wonderful Jamie, thanks once again! ❤
Really beautiful must obtain the sound module version!!!!!❤❤❤
Thanks, it's a really great Synth :)
True Oberheim power.
Time Shift, Solitude and Awaken get my vote.
Sounds like HEAVEN! I'm torn between this OB-X8 and the OB-6.
if you care most about the filter, choose this. it has 3 different filters, all classic OB style. if you want sound design, go for the ob-6
Owning an OB-6 and saving for the X8, I’m convinced the X8 does sound even better, i.e. like the unsurpassed originals. The 6 doesn’t have this raw power.
@@RayyMusik I'll wait until someone decides to do a comparison video of the two before I make my decision.
@@ironinquisitor3656 Same here! Even though I'll want to have both in the end, I can only get one synth once in a blue moon!
Both!
How does it stack up against the Moog One in your opinion? Which do you prefer? Purchased your One presets by the way, awesome work 👊🏻
Future classic. Wish Roland could also recreate their analog synths.
All we get from Roland is digital emulations. Albeit pretty good ones like ACB, but it would be cool if we did see reissues like this from Roland.
Well, if they didn’t release an analog 808 by now, they are never going to do it. Roland are really clueless and just shows how stubborn a company can be. Meanwhile, Sequential and Ob are tearing up everything right now. Congratulations Oberheim on reissuing one of the greatest and getting it to sound stunning!@@ironinquisitor3656
What is this roland that you speak of ???
Mmm, sonic prawn 🙉
I am sure this is going to be a favorite for some, others expect it to the be the be end of all of every synth ever released but get disappointed when they hear demos.
They are the same who want Jump and Tom Sawyer demos, this synth is not for them.
This synth is not for everyone but it does shine in what it can do.
I look forwards to your patch banks, where you spend a ton of time getting beneath the surface.
Thx for the upload.
Those who want Jump and Tom Sawyer demos are trying to gauge whether it really sounds like the vintage OBs … and you’re right, this synth is not for them/they will be disappointed. It is, however, a nice sounding synth. Just not worth the asking price, imho. There are plenty of nice sounding synths around these days. But I wanted something as a backup for a vintage OB(-8).
@@kierenmoore3236 keep trolling.
Not trolling, champ. It’s a good sounding synth. It doesn’t sound the same as the vintage units. Just facts. 🤷🏻♂️
@@kierenmoore3236 no you are trolling as you are on Starsky's video.
YT technology herpa derp, w/e that's sposed to mean *champ*
@@dankeplace Have you even played a vintage Oberheim or the X8? You don’t seem to be saying anything much; just attacking me … Why is that?
this tithing sounds like a beast powerful and big!
Second patch starting at 1:35 is an absolute masterpiece. I‘m crying listening to it. Is it influenced by „Oxygen“ movie theme?
No, I did on the Novation PEAK, but it sounded better on here :)
I want the 80s blue w stripes
What chorus and Delay are you using?
Hiya. Do these patches use layers? I ask as I need my OB to function as a two independent parts most of the time. Better value for money ha
Hi, no it’s all 1 layer due to the voice count.
@@GEOSynths Hi, I am just about to buy one of these. I have just learned that the way it divides up multitimbrality is it allocates 4 voices to layer 1 and the other 4 to layer 2. Is that right?
I had hoped much like my 198* TX81Z I could choose the amount of voices. IE I would have had a lead sound monophonic and the other 7 for a pad sound.
As I was saying above these things are a lot of money. If it was truly Bi trmbral then it basically halves the total. However 4 and 4 voices is not much use to me. I need at least 6 for pads.
Sounds similar to the prophet x
I think the X has more scope, being sample based and all.
@SYNTHPUNK MUSICK SAYS TODD SMITH MUSIC BLOWS! OK John
@SYNTHPUNK MUSICK SAYS TODD SMITH MUSIC BLOWS! so glad I have a prophet x
Not only it sounds good, but the looks of the synth is great. But the price.....
I mean, 5k is reasonable for all analog beast like this. An Omega code 8 costs more and you don’t even geting a keyboard
Well to be honest I have a different opinion about the looks...It is al a matter of taste ;-)
Awesome! You you be selling these?
Some of them may make the Soundset I do for it, I just put this together as there isn't a lot out there.
P10 rev4 far superior
In what way?
Oberheim and Moog have the fattest sounds
Certainly one of the best demos out there. Not surprising under GEO's fingers. But I hate to say it, it sounds awfully... bland.
Just not feeling this synth at all.
Your comment means zero, unless you tell us what synth you do "feel".
@@spurv did come to make a list, but love my OB6, Polybrute, Prophet12, Quantum. I just find this one harsh and limited sound pallet.
@@dmomcilovic9185
How much time have you spent playing an OB-X8 ???
what a boring synth
What an uninspiring comment. Zero constructivism or even observation.
By "boring" do you mean it pierces your soul?
"Well, that's your opinion man."
Well, what synth do you want, that is not so boring?
?????
Dont put the blade runner patch in your collection. Its not a cs 80. I love the fizzy sound of the obx8 but its not the blade runner sound. I get closer to that sound with my little phatty lol. Its the sound of rush and styx among others.
I'll make whatever Sounds I like, in fact just for you, I'll make 100 Bladerunner variations :)
