  • There's so much hate and anger out there in the Arcade community towards this cabinet put out by Arcade 1up. I do my best to review, as well as answer some of the statements put out there by so many people.
Don't forget to like and subscribe to the channel so we can put more content out there that is more positive towards what Arcade 1up is trying to do.

Arcade1up was never going to appease the hardcore MvC2 players. They are a tough crowd. I have MvC2 on PS3 and emulate on PC, but i still fire play on the cabinet because it's so accessible. Just switch on and have a quick blast. These cabinets are novelties, not professional grade hardware.

The reason for the 'haters' is because the fighting game community is fiercely competitive and critical of anything that could affect wins against other top players. This is where things like button quality, screen lag and input lag all especially matter. The concept Marvel Vs Capcom 2 isn't for casual gamers comes from the fact that this game is played on such a high level so frequently.
I find it a puzzling attitude though. The high end players are the type not to play MvC2 on anything but a CRT TV, much less play it in emulation. Arcade1up isn't the demographic for a tournament players.

Thanks for making this video. I have one at my house , just got it a few days ago and Im waiting to play because my Power Cord arrived bent and broken so I had to buy one off of Amazon. Its arriving today and I'm just waiting to play. Always wanted to own an arcade cabinet because I grew up on these. MVC2 wasn't my first choice, because I wanted to go for the MK cabinet, but I always heard good things about how great MVC2 is , and I love the characters in it. Big superhero and Capcom fan, seeing Spider-Man, Akuma, Rogue, Storm etc in this is amazing. Eventually I will get an MK and Street Fighter cabinet or I might mod it with some more games to save money and space lol but this thing is awesome to own. People hate and complain in every community, so the crowd of haters isn't new. I'm just glad someone is making affordable arcade cabinets.

A big concern of mine is the overheating issue I've been hearing about. The other issues (controls or lag issues) I feel could be fixed with replacement parts or updates. But the overheating issue could lead to some structural damage. Unless that is addressed, I do find paying $600 for that harder to justify

Really appreciate this and I agree 100%. You hit the nail on the head of not just being able to afford original machines, but the remarkable tech curve to maintaining them. Years ago I grabbed an original Space Invaders cocktail cab for around $250 in not so great condition. The board fails constantly, there are static load issues with the CRT, it's FREAKING HEAVY, the list goes on. I love having it, but I know I personally don't have the time let alone knowledge to fully recondition it. A1up is more or less perfect for set and forget, really great looking options that honestly aren't completely dead should something go awry

Amen to this. I’ve been wracking my brain trying to figure out why there is so much anger towards these cabs. It honestly makes no sense to me. But it could be the difference between experience and maturity. You have the experience with a full cab and love A1Up. Perhaps the “real cab” has been romanticized a bit too much to the neglect of reality. It’s like reading a book on marriage versus actually being married. Two completely different situations where one is theory, and the other is reality. Thanks for the comment!

Casual gamer here. Never played MvC2, just ordered it as my first Arcade1up as I regret not buying the X-Men vs Street Fighter cabinet. Huge X-Men fan.
Not in love with Arcade1up, I do like the concept. I also appreciate the reviews of the other TH-camrs telling me to be aware of the edge of the panel rubbing as it is not flush, the plastic buttons, malfunctioning stereo, not sharp headboard marquee, and the arcade filter option should be off because it effects control responses to the monitor.
Despite all of that I still bought it and now I know what to do quick fixes on. Bought it for being a casual Marvel fan and fighting game player and Mutant Apocalypse is a cool supporting game.

4:40 your mistaken. Xbox live 360 version still requires a monthly subscription in which people still play and hold tournaments online. In jest I listened to your video and read all your comments and simply believe alot of your personal strong points are based on the fact your not familiar with any of the facts or the emulation of the game. The other TH-camrs your referring to are speaking from a place of understanding. It’s not hate, it’s a well informed standpoint. The controls aren’t the best for $600, the boe monitor everyone is bragging about has the slowest millisecond response time I’ve ever seen for gaming, even from 10 years ago it’s atrocious, the emulation is bad, has glitches and people can’t get updates. False advertising about online not to mention the team who made the the emulator flycast dojo didn’t even have an online base in may 2022. The emulator is new and they concealed this from customers. It typically takes 6-8 months to test new tech on an sbc to call it stable. If you did research and you claimed you watched these so-called videos you find they are informed about many of these concerns.

    • @outruntheneonsun
      @outruntheneonsun  ปีที่แล้ว

Well to be honest, their main issues are with the online play. I haven’t heard of that other stuff. I agree that I am not familiar with the pints you listed nor the proper emulation of the game. Having never played it, as an average gamer, I still love it though. Other comments from those who play in said tournaments say they love this cab. Appreciate the response though.

@@outruntheneonsun one of the primary points in using flycast dojo is because it has online. if 1up never promised online and just made it local only they could have used redream which is a better well tested suitable emulator and people wouldn't experience any of the issues you've heard about. people who have played in tournaments missed a lot of these issues and are not complaining about it and frustrated about it as well. some even justin wong have backtracked on statements

bro, you don't understand the criticisms to any degree. in that way, you are not the average consumer. i'll just tell you what you don't know. first off 3/4 cabs suck because of the wobble. second, none of the games on the cab are arcade perfect, they all have lag. third, the online doesn't work. for those of us in the community of fighting game players (never call me part of the fgc), we all "need" an arcade perfect version of mvc2 hanging around. it's hard to find, and all of the ports suck. the only options you have are dreamcast and og arcade board, and that's it. being that this cab doesn't offer the opportunity to get an arcade perfect port, none of us want it. i could mount a dreamcast in a homemade cab and be more satisfied than with this rush job. it would cost less, too, and i could have it without riser wobble. i mean, if you like this unrefined product, more power to you, but the rest of us are still correct in our takeaway that it never needed to exist, at least not like this. the fact that 1up didn't deliver what pretty much everyone in the "community" is known to want, is what makes this an obvious cash grab. what we're saying is: 1up, you only had ONE JOB. competitive players are the target audience, and this sub par product doesn't meet minimum requirements. if they fix all the lag and put in roll back netcode, i'll buy it on discount from walmart when it's below 200, and that's all it's worth. at 600, you're out of your gd mind.

Solid video. Not sure how I even stumbled across it. Recently made my second video about this cabinet on my channel stating that I’ve returned it, after my initial video owning one and doing the initial unboxing and build on it. A couple of things to keep the comment section balanced.
    1. Better expectations came by way of who they got to endorse this cabinet. It wasn’t just anyone, they got the man that devoted his life as a young adult to be THEE champion,Justin Wong.
    2. The cabinet offers literally nothing over its prior iteration, other than MVC2. Because MANY got this with the thirst of being able to competitively play MVC2, online, that still isn’t an option.
    3. The cabinet is a rounded $700 give or take where you live after sales tax. It still needs another $150 in sticks and button upgrades. The sticks feeling better doesn’t really mesh well with the sticks need to be replaced. Essentially better junk than before can’t be the reason to praise controls.
That said, for a fraction of the cost a person could buy a Dreamcast off the used market and two of the Green Goblin arcade sticks and even a CRT for a literal arcade perfect experience of this game, because even the MVC2 rom has issues that prevent it from playing flawless to its original hard ware.
That aside my comment is just to offer some variety. These are facts and my opinion is that for all the people that collect these toys, you all deserve better.
At a very minimal they should be putting Sanwa parts into these machines, these parts are in no way scarce.
This seems like a huge cash grab, this was hyped up not due to the Arcade 1up community but the OG fighting game community that played this game at a competitive level back in 2000 when it came out.
Great video. And much success to your channel.

So the circles I am in this cab is amazing and such a joy to play. Does that make sense? You bring up some good points. I also agree that the whole "this cab isn't for casual gamers" is just a very weird statement that I've heard from multiple youtubers, some of them being people that I know are very casual fighting game players but happen to be major arcade1up fans. People just have odd conceptions of what consumers actually enjoy these games and to what end. If mvc2 was only played by this hardcore group, the game would have bombed back in the day and never got any further ports or re-releases digitally. The "fgc" (of which I consider myself a part of) is way too small on its own to be worth a company's time to cater a release around. There are far more fans like yourself that equally enjoy the games. Shouldn't matter if you're a tournament player or a guy that plays an hour or two on the weekend.
That all being said, this release was definitely a sloppy one for arcade1up and they obviously rushed the release. To this day, none of the marketing indicates mvc2 itself doesn't have working online, and it shouldn't be a customer's responsibility to research on youtube and reddits to find out an advertised feature isn't ready. My cabinet also has an audio issue where the volume randomly lowers by itself. It is minor, but distracting and it never happened on my mvc1 cab so I hope they fix it.
Either way, I have still been enjoying the heck out of my mvc2 cab. Arcade1up may have lost many consumer's confidence and they can reckon with that, but frankly I just care about if I am enjoying the product I spent my money on and I dont get wrapped up in everyone else's feelings on the business drama. Thanks for the comment! I know things can get lost here, so when I respond, please know I’m not being sarcastic but truly want to know what you mean. Are there barely noticeable audible issues really ruining the game or are they significant issues? I mean, does it really ruin the experience? The game is unplayable because the volume randomly changes? I honestly haven’t noticed it but perhaps I’m just a noob at the game! When would the volume level make a difference? And the running of the game is noticeable only when you have the scan lines on (a little lag), but that’s a visual preference and doesn’t factor in to most who don’t play with scan lines. What are the other “run” issues because id love to see if it’s a common thing and if my cab does it. BUT AGAIN, I don’t have a massive history with this game. I’m coming at it with fresh eyes as I’d never played before…so I love it I guess because of that reason.

@@outruntheneonsun appreciate your response don’t get me wrong I’m not a hater and happy to own one. The audio doesn’t kill it for me and I understand it’s not going to be the same quality as a full size arcade. However at that price point would be nice to not have an audio bug taking me out of gameplay randomly. I expect lower build quality and materials but would still like the software to run as well as possible. Since launch they have been pretty quiet about Anything. I’m actually not one of the people concerned about online as it wasn’t a huge selling point for me like playing with friends and single player mostly. The scanlines thing is a big bummer for me I feel like most games should have that option not just because it’s how they were meant to be played but how I remove them which is mostly why I bought it right? For nostalgia but again not a dealbreaker I just wish it would be fixed at some point. I have noticed slowdown issues coupled with audio desync after longer sessions which gets worse over time and can feel that my PCb area was pretty hot.
Again I don’t have some ridiculous standard or expectation I’m just concerned after spending slot of money that over time it could break or fail. If it plays as is I could live with that I guess. But it’s also frustrating as a fan of the game this is pretty much the only way we could buy it anymore. Last time it was digital and ran just fine on Console. When you spend a lot of money just for access or even as a statement piece to share with other enthusiasts and friends it kinda sucks if it’s janky. I typically don’t get caught up in hype I just want to play a game I love as beat as possible. Now I think some of these things are probably fixable and would feel better if they just communicated more but I guess it is what it is. I don’t mind Doing fun projects and modding stuff the hardware is not that expensive and easy enough to change out all that really mattered to me was the software and how it runs and o really so believe it could use an update. I am still happy to have it and hopefully it will give me years of play time. Unfortunately due to my concerns I’ve limited my play to shorter sessions so as not to make things worse on the unit.

@@VitaEx well dang, thank you for taking the time to explain this to me. I really respect that. I think your statement that most gets me is the janky feel when you want to play with other enthusiasts and friends. Forgive me. I do not have friends like that; most of mine are older and didn’t get in to this, so when we play it’s crazy mayhem that’s super fun. Of course I like to beat them all though lol. I do have a friend that’s about 10 years younger who has been on vacation for a while, so when he gets back I’ll definitely see what he thinks. He’s an enthusiast for sure. Who knows, when or if it does go live, let’s try and play and you can stomp me good and put me in my place. Shoot I’m still trying to figure out the moves let alone the combos, max attacks, and partner choices. As a side note, who do you use as your threesome?

So... I've just watched this video and listened to your points. I'll say this: the main issue (casual or not) is that the marquee title isn't online. Other issues withstanding (sounds issues, overheating, input lag, etc) this is still the main point of contention, especially since a lot of us had access to these games. To the point that you've made about A1Up hurting for money, they've stated publicly that they sold over 3M cabinets. Even if you start with the beginning prices of $299 (which they've gone up in price since its inception), they've made almost 1B in cash, regardless of the small overhead of profit.
The people are upset with this and Blitz' release because of the lack of communication and withholding of information that surrounds this release. That being said, keep making vids, man. I enjoyed what you had to say, but there's a lot that was kinda missed in this video.

My issue is it’s the ONLY cabinet I have with a “Live” feature that is missing from the title game & for some reason it won’t stay connected to the servers to play or spectate they legacy games. Yet all my other cabinets play online perfectly fine. They sent me a new pcb, new WiFi antenna nothing has fixed it & their solution is to give me the same basic test your router/modem replies. You have 20 1ups probably some modded , which cost you well over $10,000 and you’re saying the reason you chose these over real cabs and larger DIY kits is “because you don’t have room or money”. You could eliminate 15 of your cabs with 1 good DIY kit. With better online play. As for dismissing no online play , I bought one and now don’t have online and I’m pissed , I bought it because of online and it doesn’t have it. They lied ; they false advertised , and you think people are being nitty ? Lmao. Cmon man. The sound is F”d , the buttons and joysticks suck, it’s a Capcom game in a Midway cab , lmao. Hey man thanks for watching! Glad this brought some good conversations. If you read below, I do respect what some people have said for sure and admit that I was wrong; I even admit that in my upcoming video. But with the money, remember, I haven’t bought one cab for over $300 except the TRON and Dragons lair, and the MAIN reason I got in to these was because of the nostalgia and loom of the cabs and wanted to create that feel for my kids. I do have a pandoras in my most recent mod and thoroughly enjoy it, but it doesn’t create the nostalgia that I love more than anything. I completely understand if you don’t agree with me! Regarding the slant of the control deck it’s at a steep angle rather than more horizontal, putting strain on the wrists. When the hands rest horizontal it’s more natural, less strain. Absolutely…IF convenience is what you are going for! That’s one of my main points; convenience isn’t what I’m going for, but arcades and arcade cabinets. It’s the difference between a Neo Geo mini and a stand up SNK MVSX. Both play similar games, but the MVSX is $500 compared to $100 (with controllers). But I love the feel of the cabinets, the nostalgia of the attract modes and everything that an arcade brings. MVC2 just adds to that feeling.

Wish they would've made this collection available to download on current gen consoles. Would be convenient for most. Reason why I put SNK over Capcom. SNK has KOF '94 available to download on your PS4 and PS5 right now. MVC2 came out 2000. Not sure what Capcom's aim is or what the Marvel Vs Capcom community did to treat them this bad.

That’s super interesting. I had no idea. At first thought it sounds like a financial move since SNK was in bankruptcy and we’re gone way before PS3. Unico bought them out right? And then a gentlemen from the Middle East was rumored to have purchased the rights to Neo Geo. Since it’s no one’s “baby” perhaps that’s why. Marvel is such a huge IP so that might have something to do with it and maybe not just Capcom. I don’t know though

I think for a casual player they won’t notice any issues. The problem is that this cabinet was advertised at EVO and this is the hub for the competitive fighting scene. So they will nitpick everything because they want arcade accurate gameplay. The biggest thing is the missing online for mvc2 at launch. Still no official updates by arcade1up on this. There is no excuse for this period. The freemvc2 movement was about getting a console/pc port for the masses. Not an arcade1up cabinet. That is another major point of contention.

Thanks for the comment! So when you say that the free MVC2 movement of consumers was all about getting a console port for the masses…you mean like Xbox, Xbox360, Dreamcast, PS3, etc? Those consoles are way more widespread than ARCADE1UP cabinets will ever be. If that’s the case, which again, I’m speaking from ignorance because I have done NO research regarding the movement, but if that is the case hasn’t PlayStation and Microsoft already done what the community wants?
