My Target in the west burbs of Illinois Stocks on Friday. Topps Chrome Update was on the shelves during released day and bought 1 box. Since release day, they have not been on the shelf.
I haven’t ripped much retail for a couple years now. Haven’t been exciting Mariners rookies that I didn’t just opt to buy a single of. The walmart by me is always pretty stocked, some of the better stuff fly’s off the shelf but as a whole if someone wanted to rip cards they could find something. Biggest issue I’ve ran into is the people way too hooked on the gambling side of things instead of the collecting side. Topps throwing in these new massive cards that are $10kish minimum resale that have bounties has these gamblers hooked. I don’t want cards to be boring again. I don’t want retail to be produced less and not found on shelves because of it. I don’t know the answer truly, hard to get people to get into the “spirit” of collecting when so much money is in it now.
I found them twice online for retail. Never in the wild. Was able to get 3 and then 2. First boxes not much, last 2 were pretty damn good. Happy hunting…
I found a whole case unopened at Dick’s Sporting Goods and I purchased one box for 60 bucks. The best card I got out of it was a no name /99 and an Evan Carter refractor rookie, absolute waste of my money. In fact I was at Walmart just last night and found a whole shelf full of them. I was the lucky one who walked in after they did a drop shipment and it must’ve been 10 boxesand I didn’t touch them. I bought a holiday mega box just because I was in the Christmas spirit and I won’t touch these ridiculous prices on the chrome and get Jack shit in the box.
Those bountys are a absolute joke its a money grab this is why alot of collectors went to buying singles because there getting tired of the greed in the hobby and i dont see the point of spending sixty dollars for a mega box when you will only break even if lucky to
I found 11 of them at a Dick’s last week. Limit 3 per customer. The 1999 Stadium Club I opened the next day turned out to be a better use of money. But let’s not dramatize this… they’re out there.
The ENTIRE card hobby has gone to crap, why, $$$$$$. That’s it. I purchased 4 chrome up date boxes, opened 2. Still got the other two. Thought about selling them. Now, they going to my friends kid down the road and I pray the Skene card is in there. The local card shops are floundering because people just cannot afford this mess. It’s all about money, money, money. So if Topps has update boxes, why aren’t they posting them on their site , $$$$$, inside deals. Look at Becket, I hope PSA is next
the breakers are making a fortune~ Fanatics owns topps , fanatics live no shortage of boxes selling spots for over $100 1 team??!?! Hobby/card shops are not getting their direct shipments from topps/fanatics they are selling them to breakers or on their breaking sight fanatics live~ Fanatics is killing card casual collecting fans pricing us out~ 100% Fanatics is holding back on the patches, spring training we’ll see some more patches. Fanatics is turning a family hobby and out pricing the middle class, breakers fanatics is turning into gambling is a shame
Yup and I’ve watched a lot of people open these mega boxes and most have trash cards. Don’t get me wrong, if you want these cards to add to your PC and don’t care about the value, they are quality cards. But, if you’re trying to open and then sell what you got, better off doing something else.
Those old enough should remember 1989 Fleer and the Billy Ripken card. People were opening wax boxes and throw away the card except the Ripken.
I was a little young for that but I do remember the craze. Kids that were older than me we all about do that exact thing.
Im not paying $60 for a mega box of topps chrome or any other retail box. Cost of seald is out of control.

I picked up 4 boxes a couple days ago at my local Walmart. $49.95 a box. Probably just depends on your location.
Def., and my location has always been crap or filled with flippers.
@Sportscardhustlers yeah...my walmarts are all small community.

Retail does not contain the debut patch cards
Yes they do. That was a ridiculous thing to say.
