    I occasionally drive a low trim Elantra like this at work (gov’t fleet) and it’s one of my favorites. It’s very well equipped for such an inexpensive car, it’s quiet, and kinda stylish. I’m 5’9 and 215lbs, and the seats are very comfy for me.

    Correction at 16:39. Elantra n has 8 speed dual clutch not 6 spd. But overall a great family review. Can't wait for y'all to drive that elantra n.

    The elentra just needs rear seat vents and a charging port in the back in the limited trim. Overall it's a very sharp looking car.

    The small things in life as a middle age person brings a smile to your face, nothing like putting on a new pair of socks. The N-Line front end is the best looking out of the trims.

    I'd say the one to go with is the SEL, with the "convenience" package. That is what I have on my 2023 Elantra. I will say that the smart/green/eco mode the car has IS actually SMART, and allows for performance when you do ask for it instead of how most cars just stay in 'green' mode. The other BIG deal about Hyundai is that they offer 3 YEARS included maintenance, and this is something they do over and above Kia.

    If you get the chance, try the hybrid version. The IVT is replaced by a dual clutch tranny, and the electric motor gives you snappy performance off the line. 0-60 time is faster in the hybrid, and you regularly get over 50 mpg. Oh, and the rear torsion suspension is replaced by a much better independent rear suspension, so handling is greatly improved. The Hybrid is one of the unsung heroes of the Hyundai lineup.

    I would love another one of these. I had 4. A 2010, Two 2013’s, and a 2015. Loved them and they were awesome on gas. But they were horrible in snow and winter. I got stuck multiple times. That’s why I went with a Tucson.

    I find the removal of wireless Android Auto on the higher trims annoying. I had a 2021 SEL with convenience package and loved it! It recently (4/10) got in an argument with a Freightliner and lost. 😔I'm still more upset about the car than I am the broken left clavicle. It had everything this 23 does, but retained the 8 inch screen and wireless AA! Heading to my Hyundai dealer tomorrow to get another one!

    Personal experience with the Theta II engine issues plus the whole Hyundai/Kia immobilizer debacle left a sour taste in my mouth, but I did enjoy my 2008 Elantra SE. That little circle irrationally bothers me, though. Maybe because it reminds me of the plastic TVs and VCRs they used to have at furniture stores when I was a kid or something. Like it's purposefully non-functional. Maybe they either got rid of it or gave it a purpose in the 2024 refresh.

    I bought one to replace a diesel truck due to longer commute and I enjoyed the previous gen for a rental once. But after 10k miles and 5 months the road noise and light weight became an annoyance on the hwy plus had no power unless it was over 4K rpm. Barely saw the mpg at 75 it done 36, but it’s kinda hilly here. Tons of room though great car for a short commute or run around town in. One big complaint is getting in and out it’s super low, fall in crawl out. Traded it for a Taos much better hwy car way more power albeit more money it’s worth it. Oh and insurance was astronomically high pre break in era high. Vdub dropped it 50 bucks a month.

    I'm glad it's not "fun". Auto-journalists have ruined cars for the general public by clamoring for "sporty." Can't get a comfortable car anymore.
    And you're spot-on re: visibility. *VISIBILITY sucks on the Elantra.* But that's been the case for the past 3ish gens.

  • @alandaters8547
    @alandaters8547 ปีที่แล้ว

    A CVT (or an IVT) improves efficiency or performance by bringing the engine to the most advantageous RPM and keeping there for as long as needed. Doesn't introducing RPM changes merely to mimic those of a less efficient transmission defeat that purpose? Next they will be adding smoke generators and tailpipes to EVs for similar nostalgia.

    STYLING (exterior) - well people forget that Hyundai has a HUGE advantage for cost and supply of owning their own steel company (a big one at that) and they are tied to the engineering and design with that steel company, so it is like the are one generation of technology ahead of everyone else (let alone annoying everyone that they can in effect "upgrade" the quality of steel for very little cost compared to others). With that they worked on bending the steel in amazing ways (in the old days, steel used to spend it entire life trying to return to its original forged shape, but various technologies were constantly introduced to give metal a memory of its shape to avoid that without being thick and heavy basically). Pure speculation on my part - but I have to wonder if the "competition" (Honda darn it used to love shaping their metal) gave up and went back to "oh well, vanilla is what it is all about - never get tired of that - flavours are for show offs" ). In any case EVERY brand would say - oh the Elantra, well yes good value and content but oh that look that is just terrible - space ship, oh the cost to repair blah blah - it was so universal it was why attack the look when I am the one to choose what I like or don't like. In any case, I never looked at the exterior and just told my brother when I wanted his concurrence that "ignore the colour and looks, it is all about driving experience" People would stop and compliment it at car washes as I was drying it outside and ask what it was - "oh no we were thinking it is so different and we liked the look, and wonder if it was a new company". So I took a look and it was fantastic design - like the old style race cars the wheels want to stick out but the body goes out to cover them - you see it in the rear where the cabin glass is 4" or so inside the outer edge giving it a very wide look hinting at Corvettes back - the door latches are almost not visible in fact because of it.

    WIRELESS - it is apparently (via @motormouthcanada) - that once Hyundai put in THEIR navigation (maps) Apple and/or Android loose the DATA from that - so it's all about getting access to that data and they will not hand it off to those two (at least to the degree or format they want) - so much pressure I guess they might in the future. LEFT CIRCLE - it is "holding a spot" for what they hoped was a finger print sensor some markets were suppose to get - apparently in the refresh will get it in some markets. So funny, I thought it would be to clip something magnetized too.
