Great opening tune. As for odd time, there are a million styles in odd time. On youtube there is a great funk song called "Funk in 5/4" the band and channel name is "Vinyl " The song was released in 1997 and is somewhat in Meters/ JBs style, has horns, a Latin break in the middle and an smooth guitar solo Check it out if you haven't already There is also a backing track, a trap beat called 5/4 Time Signature (Oddtime) Hip Hop Beat/Instrumental 'FIVE QUARTERS' [prod.FreQtik] 5/4 Trap 2021 An amazing rap song on youtube with changing time signatures is called clipping. - Story 2 [OFFICIAL VIDEO] , tempo also increases There is also a recent instructional video by Rich Brown - The Brown'stone called "The Essential "Odd Time" Exercise" Rich is a great bass player. In this video he gets a great James Jameson feel while playing 7/4 He has another video on odd time doing 5/4 Sting had a nice song in 1993 :Seven Days" in 5/4 with a great beat by Vinnie Colaiuta Of course there could be a hit song in odd time. It depends on the vocal Even Taylor Swift has a 5/4 song called "tolerate it" and another called "Closure" Cory, you're telling us you're more conservative than Taylor Swift? She's got more odd times stuff?
Duuuude, "until it falls" is such a serious banger!!! Since I´m the official spokesman for the general public I can confidently say: They wanna hear it!!!
"Is it enjoyable for the listener? Does the general public want to hear it?" Friggin YES Cory what the hell, that was a banger. I want the full song and like add a wooden xylophone or something that tune slaps.
@@CoryWongMusic Note that a third time I want it too. Edit: Actually, mark it a culminative 28+ times taking into consideration the like buttons smashed.
@@CoryWongMusic Okay I actually looked up the original and I do see what you're talking about. The high energy strange time signature part is a banger, the jazzy rest of the song not quite as good of a fit for the brand perhaps.... That said, Kenni's slap tongue (along with the rest of the brass section) makes this track actually rad and if you rework the B part to keep the high energy you've got a dope Cory Wong track.
It sounds like a mashup of Blue Rondo Alla Turka and Crystal Snail (Mega Man x2) viz. th-cam.com/video/18ZUY3o2dL8/w-d-xo.html and I also want the full tune
With this band backing him up, I’d unironically support Cory slapping on a NASCAR jacket, a Fender undershirt, and Squeezify Vodka ads every 3 minutes. Whatever it takes!
„Da da da“ is not primarily a commercial song. It was written by Stephan Remmler for his band Trio and was a big hit of the German Neue Deutsche Welle in the 80s.
Hi Cory and the Magic Wongnotes! I may have seen all the vidéos Internet offers. You all DOPE guys an laydie (Negah) What a band ! I love your music, the athmosphere in the band and that amazing creativity and generosity in your videos. I forgot humour, nonsens. This is so enthousiastic We need you all in France again !!! because of COVID I could'nt come & ear you in paris and other dates in France. I just went to Fearless Flyers @ Lavilette Jazz festival. Great, but we need you and the Wongnotes again in France to fire one or two DJ's ;D Do you plan another sone tour in France ? Peace, love and groove, greatings to all the vand
Same, didn't realise how much until The Consouls started doing all sorts of VGM in odd times. Their cover of Mute City in 7 is highly listenable and their arrangement of Scars of Time in 11 (alternating 6 and 5) is a work of art. And I think Crystal Snail is in 13.
I want a "Wong goes Prog" album...now!! When you guys busted out the "odd time grooves" I wasn't sure if I was hearing Dream Theater or Umphreys McGee. Honestly it's a good fit for you guys. All jokiing aside I'd really like to hear an album of more musically complex stuff like that but with your classic Wongness....
A "moustache" is a faux-pas so terribly "gauche" - it's actually funky. (Now, feed that into a looper and start practicing your odd meters until you're off the charts.) Wait, what did I just say? Le funk c'est chic!
I literally wrote the book on exotic rhythms. It's my Doctoral Dissertation. I avoid the label "Odd Time Signatures" because the asymmetric rhythms may occur above or below the meter. Also, IMHO it's a bit bait and switch to label the video "Odd Time" and then perform in 4/4 for the first half of the vid :-S 23 223 23 223 23 223 23 22333 = 54/8 😎
i mean...do you all hear how funky Sonny is on that opening tune? i personally request that his amp is pointed directly at me for every gig on tour.
I'd like to request his amp be pointed directly at me during the show in St. Paul this upcoming March
Great opening tune.

Supa funky
Well, I can't see how different it could be. Still, thank you Captain Obvious.
(Please, take it as a joke, as I really admire your work).
Mats and Morgan vibes
Duuuude, "until it falls" is such a serious banger!!! Since I´m the official spokesman for the general public I can confidently say: They wanna hear it!!!
NOTED!
I must say, hearing Jay solo lately has been a huge treat for me. I so love how smooth he is.
Thank you. 🎺 ❤ #trumpetman
Straight up killin it
"Is it enjoyable for the listener? Does the general public want to hear it?" Friggin YES Cory what the hell, that was a banger. I want the full song and like add a wooden xylophone or something that tune slaps.
I too support Cory Wong slowly transforming into Frank Zappa
NOTED!

The riff Cory is playing in the beginning is very reminiscent of if you have to ask by RHCP love it
I thought it was gonna be a cover
Lol. Totally expected Sonny to go into, "A wanna be gangster thinkin' he's a wise guy. Rob another bank, he's a sock 'em in the eye guy".
The riff was played by Larry Carlton on an old crusaders album I think from the late 70s.
The live sound mix/production of these jams is fantastic by the way.
I thought ya'll were about to launch into "If You Have to Ask" by the Chili Peppers with that opening riff.
YES someone notice thank you hahahah
SAME
First thing I thought of!! Different key though
It’s the same but a half step higherr
same strumming pattern and tone even lol
Jay Webb dang! Get it!
Dudes just went FULL PROG with that time signature!
Right? It sounded a bit like Dream Theater for a moment haha, but I loved it!
Thought I heard The Dance of Eternity for a while at the beginning
@@sanate_sanghmingIt's pretty close to that riff
Sonny was humming El Paso by Marty Robbins frequently covered by the Dead
That odd time sig tune was sick and I'm sad that it's not on Spotify to be honest.
Meditation has to be my favourite live. The one at Brooklyn Steel is 😍😍😍
i really cant thank you enough for giving us all this conten for free and without any advertising!!! thank you!
With this band backing him up, I’d unironically support Cory slapping on a NASCAR jacket, a Fender undershirt, and Squeezify Vodka ads every 3 minutes. Whatever it takes!
my lord that trumpet is heavenly
Loved that succulent And patient trumpet solo. So much shredding and that was the tasteful sultry opposite. Pants of many listeners flew off...
Dang Jay Webb -- crystal clear tone and so smooth my headphones almost slid off my ears!
I love how everyone gets the opportunity to just do their thing.
Just looked on Spotify and no "Until it Falls". Soooo bummed. Incredible sample right here.
5:17 - that drum groove is wild!
Cool era Miles vibes on that trumpet solo, absolutely beautiful
So close to the Lik....
All respect for Nêgah Santos!
Sounds like the Chili Peppers riff on "if you have to ask" funky AF. Good stuff.
1:21 the lick
„Da da da“ is not primarily a commercial song. It was written by Stephan Remmler for his band Trio and was a big hit of the German Neue Deutsche Welle in the 80s.
I still remember the puzzlement of hearing it on the radio. Such a different song but it did well in Australia too

See ya in Madison in March, glad to see you in the Sylvee this time too, much better venue than last time!
Y’all gotta c’mon’ over here to Tokyo! Right now!!
Damn that tune was slick & Michael Nelson is a genius
🎼🎵🎶🎷🎺🎸🎹🥁🎼🎵🎶
Killin' band and music Cory. Saw you guys in Rochester NY last year at Anthology. I was blown away man.....
I am 100% here for Cory and the Prog Notes.
Agree. It was kind of like a mad mash of Blue Rondo Alla Turka and Mega Man x2 Crystal Snail (th-cam.com/video/18ZUY3o2dL8/w-d-xo.html)
Nice to hear from the horns today!
Q&A question! Will you , or have you ever considered a Christmas album?
4:00 sonny singing El Paso by Marty Robbins
I wanted that jam to go on forever
Ooooh, that odd time signature lick was GLORIOUS!!!
until it falls was killer! As a member of the general public, I'd love to hear it!!
That is a tight ass band. I actually love the odd time song:)
Wow some real Herb Albert 70s vibes on that trumpet, gives me goosbumps, groove is sooooo goooood!

I for one would also support a full album of 'Wong Times'
We better get a full version of the opening jam
Finally a somewhat less hectic track from an amazing band. Slow down more!
I loved Sonny's Marty Robbins thing
That opening groove was hot
Thank you gyus! Such format - question-answer and + music is very intertaining to watch!
Guitar lick is taken from Chili Peppers song "If you have to ask" from the Blood Sugar Sex Magic Album.
You guys are so much fun. Thank you
Loved the If you have to ask reference there
Anyone else notice that Sonny’s “mustache song” (4:00) is Marty Robbins’ “El Paso,” the old cowboy song?
That guitar 🧛🏼♂️ is 🔥. At the beginning 🙂.
Great band send u hugs. Soony is one of a kind 🤟
Until it falls had a Zappa feel... sick
Don't know why but for me you are Steve-O's brother in another universe, awesome video as always.
Cory playing math rock made my day
"Until It Falls" goes really hard. Haha
I've noticed a lack of Lampley in the last handful of videos. Is he touring with some other bands or something?
I’m wondering this too?!
Great band!😃
GTA VI theme sounds great
A "moustache" is a faux-pas so terribly "gauche" - it's actually funky. (Now, feed that into a looper and start practicing your odd meters until you're off the charts.) Wait, what did I just say? Le funk c'est chic!
1:20 L I C C
6:31 best running gag, I see you editor
i was about to comment about how you could feel that odd time song in 12/8 but then cory did the nerd out for me lmao
That guitar sounds exactly like "power of equality" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
4:47 I legit thought they were going into Dance of Eternity 😆
So fresh
I thought you guys open with If you have to ask!!
Good lawd those horns were ///tight/// in Ketosis
Damn that’s smooth
Until it Falls SLAPS. RECORD IT
Good sound👍👌
Great atmosphere! 👌
need more odd time stuff!! it’s huge rn! look at gizzard!!!!
There's a lot of odd time signature folk songs in Turkey and India.
MORE of the ODDTIME SIGNATURES!!!
Still want a cover of Ladies Night, She's a Bad Mama Jamma, or SOS Band Take Your Time.
Great as always gang
So when do we get that opening tune as a release?
Lol I’m glad Cory said something because I was thinking 5+7 doesn’t have to feel odd
God I fucking love this band. Also Peter goes so hard at 5:16 o.O
if u have to ask
I LOVE these Thanks Corey and Band of awesomes!
That was basically a tool song. Now i want to hear a big band tool cover
If you have to ask intro!!
fuck the radio, hit me with that odd time all day.
It's on 4:37
Secret unreleased bonus track from Love Byrd? Or did Jay just channel Donald for a moment?! Either way, that trumpet sounded sweet. 😁
OMG its greaaaat! Until it falls babyyyyyyyy!! 😆😆😆
Am I the only one that wants to hear a tenor battle between Sam and Kenni?
So excited for Nashville in Feb! Will you be hitting up any disc golf courses in the area or will it be too cold?
I was expecting for a high tritone and flea joining on the bass after the intro
4:25 and that's spelled "Direct Flyte"
For a second I thought was a cover of "If You Have To Ask" by RHCP 😅
1:19 = the lick
cory a whole different person with that odd time stank face i love it
Give me my chipotle, give me my chipotle, I want chips, I want guac, give me my chipotle, one.
This opening riff sounds exactly like If You Have to Ask by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Mans not afraid to touch lick territory in his solo.
Levels getting closer. +1.4DB LUFS. Sounds like 4/4 on the floor to me.
Ya man 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

What is this opening tune called? I want to put this on repeat! J Webb has got some sauce flowing through that Horn! Such a PHAT sound you guys have.
