After I use the flat side, I use a pick to softly lift my hair, don't pull the comb all the way through. The lift results in soft looking twists & a bit of fullness & eliminating scalp showing. I do it almost daily. This is the step she may've overlooked. Damp hair works better. Thanx.
Very helpful especially when she mentions how to use the sponge. When she says lightly use the sponge as opposed to pushing down hard on the hair. That really worked for me.
I really appreciate this video, because I just bought a curl sponge at the barbershop and I asked the Barbara about the two different sides and they just looked at me like I asked a stupid question....lol. Thank goodness for Us and TH-cam.
I just brought one a the beauty supplies store .....but one one could tell me diffènce so thanks 4 that❤❤❤...I'll b checking in because wre both have the same texture hair..$♡♡❤
I hope the lady that came up with the sponge concept patented it. I remember when she was on Facebook showing us how it worked well with her natural hair. She had actually made the holes herself into a regular sponge. I just hope she was abled to capitalize on her idea. White Folk’s probably decided to put them in stores.
Try the ridged side again. Remember you cannot switch directions which is easy to forget when you switch hands. When you do you’re actually un-doing the twists. It’s reversing the curl pattern. You’ll get better results.
Thank you! My son and I never knew which side of his to use and like you said, in most videos people were using the flat side. This video helped tremendously!
I actually like the ridged side better because it doesnt leave bare scalp spots on my head and my hair length is about the same as yours, this is only my second day using it, been using my hands for the past about 2 months, great video...thanks👍👍👍
Same. I did this today with ridged side and was wondering why it wasn't as defined. Well, I don't like the knotty, scalpy look so I guess I'll stick with less definition, although it reminds me of when someone doesn't comb out their hair lol
@@kelliew.4285 Please don't say that 🤣 I just cut my hair off due to damage and I'm trying to get used to my hair this way. I got my edge control ready. If you groom yourself it shows.
The side with ridges works better with hair that is a tad bit longer...but I absolutely love the effect achieved from the flat size!! Thanks for the demo!!
Just cut off my sisterlocks (had them since 2007) yesterday on my birthday...and was not looking forwarding to maintaining my afro...then I came across this video...1st time hearing about the curl sponge..searched other videos...this is best video for the Curl Sponge demo...and now i am excitedly looking forward to life with the short afro...this channel IS "life with the short afro simplified" ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! Very useful information. I recently cut all my over processed hair off. This is not my first short haircut, but the sponge brush is a new experience for me and after watching your video, I have more clarity on how to use the brush.
Great job giving description of how long you do it and how far you have to be in your hair! THANKS for explaining both sides and what that means, hard to find videos explaining that
I always use the textured side because I prefer curls to twists. As she showed in the video the textured side curls but the flat side twists your hair rather than curl it. To get the best results, use a coconut oil based curling cream, I use the Cantu brand (I'm not advertising, it's just the only brand I've tried and it works so I stuck to it)
Thanks! That's exactly the info I've been looking for. I mean seriously... Every article/video I've seen has talked about the "curling sponge", yet they all twist their hair. But, I wanted the curly style.
Thank you for the video. I'm thinking of using the sponge. I'd like to see eyebrow, lash and skincare vids from you also because you look amazing and so natural.
Your tutorial is very informative. I’ve always had long hair. I’ve had quite a few moments where I’ve cut my hair completely off to a short Salt n Peppa 80’s hairstyle. I cut my hair off once again because I’m tired of the chemical maintenance. Thank you for the advice!
I recently bought one for my 6yr old grandson and I used the textured side and the curls just enhanced very nice!😍 Today, I was looking at flat side and was thinking 🤔 hmmm…can I use this side as well? So, this is why I’m on your TH-cam channel😁 Thank you for being so, informative as to “how to” use this sponge brush! Yours truly, NanaPanda California🌴🌊☀️
Can you please do a video on your skin routine because your skin is flawless!💯like I drink carrot juice every day and my skin don’t look as clean.youre on point 😁💯
Great talent, however, next time use the "Original NuDred" sponge. With NuDred you don't have to apply nearly as much pressure, healthier for your hair, better results and NuDred will last longer. Black Owned, Manufactured and made in the US.
I think it's a matter of long hair vs. short hair. Depth of holes, ridges, etc. If your hair were longer, you may get similar results by using the rigid side. Just my opinion. Your video is great and detailed. Thanks for sharing.
Hello. Does using the spike side afterwards, make the scalp less pronounced? I don't want my scalp showing too much. I want a more natural looking loose, and defined curl.
Teresa h hi. I sponge almost everyday.... I think the trick is to stop just when your coils are getting too tight then switch to the spiked side, but if they get too tight I spritz with water.
Love ur hair ur the one that made go to the barber shop with me right? I showed it to my husband & he said u were beautiful i didnt get jealous because i compliment women & im not bisexual i just compliment where its do thats all looks great!
You have a wonderful personality! I ordered a sponge and will receive it tomorrow. Was just watching videos of how it works and came across ur video. Thank you, very helpful!!👍🏾👍🏾
Thank you! Very helpful! And everyone seems to use eco styler gel with this sponge but good to know I don't have to use that or gel if I don't want to. Definitely will try it with leave in and grease or mousse next time.
🤴🏾I have been using the spike side for a very long time for really short hair. When the pandemic hit I was not going to get my cut. I continue to use the spike side. The result was my hair looked like someone was curling it. Started the flat side for longer hair but my hair does not look as curly. 😢 I believe it depends on your hair texture to get the result that you want. When I get my hair cut a little lower I will return to the spike side. 😊 Thank you for the demo. 👍🏽🌹
For dreadlocks the wavy side gives more uneven sized dreadlocks. My hairs a bit longer then hers and that’s what happened to me. It has more of a free form look but the other side made it look more uniform.
I like both sides. It just depends on the look I wanna feel like rocking that day, and my outfit. Yes sometimes my hair has to match my outfit 🤷🏽♀️😂 I rock a short tapered haircut
Your video was so helpful because it clearly shows the end result of both sponge curl side and u so cute, keep up the good work. Your concept of showing result of both side of the sponge was a brilliant idea
Great tutorial! My hair is just a little longer would that be the problem in getting better defined curls? Is there any more products that you would recommend to define the curls?
I love your presentation. I use the sponge everyday but you brought it home for ,e. Especially the need for the dampness & the leave-in conditioner. Thank you! Keep it up pleade!
I was wondering why the sponge was not working for me. I stumbled across this video. I have been pressing too hard and I was using the raised side. My hair is thick so I felt that I needed to used the raised side. I am very new to this process and was very intimidated by it. Thank you Thank you Thank you
Thank you, sis. Love & appreciate this vid. I haven't been to the shop since this quarantine mess & I usually keep a fade. Been almost 2 decades since I've had my hair this long LOL. Wanted to find a way to keep it halfway together so I copped the sponge but didn't kno what to do. Keep doing your thing! 👍🏿
Big help thank you so much I just ordered the sponge so I have 4C here. I use the same styling product that you use and so I’m looking for something that looks presentable when you go outside so you’ve done a great job on your presentation. Thank you so much.❤

Oh snap, all I can say is God bless you for this video, I also like the left side better. It's 2am and I can't wait to get to the beauty supply shop in the morning. You are beautiful and thank you thank you thank you.💃💃💃OH and finally someone with my length and grade of hair.
Hello! I'm letting my hair grow up after years of getting it very short. I think that my hair tipe is between 4b and 4c, how long must be my hair to get those coils? Thanks!
Gracias for this very detailed explanation of each side of the curl sponge I plan to buy this product at rite aid soon to see how it works, a hairstylist this past summer told me I should use this product for my hair because my hair is curly and golden blonde 👱
Great video...I see what you mean by the knots verses with the hole side and I'm not really a fan of that side either because it shows so much of the scalp tho it's more defined..the wavy side to me is more my kind of look because it doesn't do so much of separation on the hair instead the look of the exact amount of a pattern but allows very little if any at all separation...my son hair is very high and extra thick he prefers the hole side of the sponge and his scalp is a very dark brown so even when he does his hair after a fresh wash it does separate and it looks nice ...the color of the scalp to me determines the side i use...(my scalp and yours are the same)...maybe if I let my hair grow longer 💇it may not make a difference
Hello. That's the question I was going to ask. I want a curly definition, but don't want my scalp too pronounced. So just to confirm, do you think the raised side is best for the look I'm going for?
Too much! That exact one came in the mail today literally. I like it. I have less than an inch of hair and it works great. My hair is shorter than yours right now, can not wait till it grows to your length. Do you think the side which makes your hair less defined is not for tight twists but more for creating coils? The way it does not define your twists make seems like it would be easier to start locks.
After I use the flat side, I use a pick to softly lift my hair, don't pull the comb all the way through. The lift results in soft looking twists & a bit of fullness & eliminating scalp showing. I do it almost daily. This is the step she may've overlooked. Damp hair works better. Thanx.
RobinZipporah what products do you use to curl your hair please
Same
Exactly. I do the same. I use miele organics curl sculpting and moisturizer
Appreciate it, my shit be looking toooo flat
Yeah same! I hate when the scalp is showing haha
The flat side is used for short hair while the rough textile is used for long hair.
Michael Shegzy really?
Yes really.
My hair is 4-6 inches is it considered short
Yth Niggaki so is mine and I used the textured side

Thanks for the tip about not pressing on the head with force. That was really helpful.
Where can I get the sponge and what is it called?
Beauty supply store. It should just be called a curl sponge or twist sponge
Yes, because that is exactly what I was gonna do.
I really appreciate this video, because I just bought a curl sponge at the barbershop and I asked the Barbara about the two different sides and they just looked at me like I asked a stupid question....lol. Thank goodness for Us and TH-cam.
