Driven both. Have a C7 Z06 7M. Can say that the Ferrari is the authentic one. Z06 sounds amazing as well but Ferrari gets the slight nod for being the originator. The Vette sounds almost a little synthezised, and I know they went to great pains to get the sound right. I think maybe as the Z06 gets older it will sound better. I prefer my Z06 and power is very similar, but the C7 feels scarier, frenetic
Yes!!!! C7Z is the real monster. The best best C8 is the stingray. Perfect size and still sounds like a corvette. The higher models are to big. Plus most people just see a C8 regardless of what model you have. Not worth the extra money for being mistake for a base car 😂. Ferrari and Lamborghini will never have that problem. Sure…. I still love corvettes but, it will always be an American Sport cars and nothing more. That is what it was made to be. Not an expensive supercar.
The reason the Z06 seems to slow down at higher speeds is mostly because of gearing. Final drive and the first 3 gears are short to maintain great acceleration below quarter mile speeds and on track, but the gear ratios in 4th gear and 5th gear are super tall, enough so that you could probably hit top speed in 5th, making 6th, 7th, and 8th most useful for fuel economy. On the other hand, the Ferrari's gearing is much shorter at higher speeds, with it's top gear (7th) having a shorter ratio than the Z06's 5th gear, explaining how it is able to start matching or even pulling at the very top.
Also remember, he’s got the 007 package which is pretty aggressive aerodynamics, and those are going to slow you down at higher speed because they are, by design, creating more drag to create down force for high-speed cornering.
@@wheeleroharrow6501 Crikey! Yes I misspoke, I remembered him as having the Z07, which he definitely doesn’t. He does have the ground effects package which has front splitter from the Z07 (minus the dive planes), and the duckbill has been mounted on the rear. From what I recall the duckbill adds about 325 pounds of downforce but I’ll double check that one. Also the front splitter adds some downforce and I know that Jesse switched to a larger aftermarket splitter because he wanted more downforce after going to big willow and wanting more push up there. Also I do not know if he has the gurney flaps on or off under the front, those also add downforce if they are not removed from their factory position. I don’t know how much downforce that front splitter adds over the stocker, but from the looks of it it’s probably pretty substantial. So for a high-speed test like this, I would remove the duckbills off the rear, the splitter off the front and remove the front gurney flaps. would actually like to see this against the same Ferrari to see how much difference it makes (hint hint hint @Jesse_Iwuji 😁)

If you had an all bones z06 with no splitter, wickers down, gurneys changed so basically a zero aero car you would subtract all downforce which also gets rid of your drag penalty and would dare say you'd perform slightly better on higher gear speeds and perhaps not let the 458 begin to creep up. That said, still doesn't change the fact that the purpose build of this car was not for straight line. But still super cool to see it do it! Only months away from finally hitting the button on mine as long as my dividends keep sustaining till march! 🤞

I’m all about that BASS & very little treble the 458 & Z06 to my ears is all about that Treble with very little BASS (no can do) I still think my 2018 ZL1 is the best stock sounding exhaust that I’ve ever had on any of my sports cars 0-60 in 3.5 seconds is still fun but I know I’m gonna have to upgrade in a few more years to the 2.4 range like the AWD ERAY I will say those are 2 BadAss rides not hating one bit!
C8 definitely sounds better than the 458 but that race against it shows how terrible the gearing is with these cars. That's my only complaint with it. Like you said there's a brick wall and it starts at 150. It just dies.
Corvette exercised a „how to“ on Ferrari with the C8 Z06, the LT6 is magnificent, and it is well known that without too much hassle they can be made to revv past 9k even.

Maybe the aero package on the Z06 was why it seem to stop gaining against the 458 on the high end. Gearing wouldn’t affect it, unless it’s actually redlining, and the motor couldn’t pull anymore, which shouldn’t happen until maybe 205-210 mph. It would be interesting to pit Z06s with different aero packages against each other and see how they do up to 200 mph
Exactly. If you compare the acceleration and top speed of the Porsche GT3 versus the GT3 RS, the RS loses up high even though it has more horsepower because of aerodynamics. If memory serves me it traps about 1 -2 mph slower, is several seconds slower to 150, and has a top speed that is several miles per hour slower. For sure if you take a Z06 without the Z07 package or the aero package which does not have a front splitter and remove its rear wicker bill spoiler, you should see better acceleration above 100, definitely above 130. And top speed would be several mph faster
@markw9512 100% all the aero is for downforce for maximum grip which is what track cars need. Zr1 will have crazy additional power to overcome the massive ztk wing and all aero combined. Regular zr1 will be insane in a straight line, to the point where it's insane to call a non ztk 1LZ zr1, regular....
Some of the ratios in the transmission aren't my favorite. Once you hit 4th or 5th gear the rpm drops quite a bit out of the powerband. Idk why GM did that. The transmission has 8 freaking gears, there's plenty for overdrive. Aero was probably the biggest factor. Weight, ya, but aero really shows 150+
@@camonly849 yeah. I expect that the multiple tiers of C8s was a factor. More aggressive gears on the Stingray would’ve put it into the 10s, so not enough differentiation from the Z06 for the braggart crowd. Similarly, lower gears on the Z06 would’ve put it closer to ZR1 times, and of course the ZR1’s massive torque doesn’t seem to mind the taller gears. And then there’s CAFE….
Nice video - I own a 2023 Z06 HTC and I put on sport cats and CAI and it's just insane, the sound, power, speed, handling. Hands down best sports car I've ever owned. I drove it back to back with my friend's 488 Spider and the Z06 sounds better, just as fast, way better tech and liveability . Get a Z06 you won't be disappointed.

It was staged to show that the Z06 was fast. In the very same video, you can see the Hurracan catching up, but he lifted the throttle to make the Z06 win. Dragtimes channel confirmed it when he beat the z06 with his Technica. Throttlehouse raced the z06 with GT-R Nismo and the Z lost it in the drag and barely edged it out in the roll, if the race were longer, samw longer gearing would have caused it to lose against the Nismo as well.

The Z06 has gearing designed for the majority of race tracks where you’re not flat out in a straightaway for that long of a distance. Better for track driving. The “brick wall” you felt is in large part to the gearing. The Z06 has significantly more track prowess than the 458. It’s more of a more modern version of the 458 Speciale
Well, I did this video because someone said a "14-year-old Ferrari is faster than a new Z06 & that Americans can't do anything right" and I wanted to see how the Z06 did. Really wanted him to be wrong but that Ferrari did pull up top. Now on a track, I'm pretty sure the Z06 would win. But I was also pretty sure the Z06 would win in a straight line too so who knows.

In boxing to beat the champ you got to knock them out , Chevy on the right path it's just low volume production supercars have less restrictions than main stream brands , American government safety restrictions effect aero and bumper height for the mainstream brands , corvette needs it's own brand that separates from Chevrolet then they can let loose if they can financially support itself.

Wrong! Because back then a GTR would beat the 458 Italia....even though the GTR was heavier. The Z06 is an amazing supetcar. But is not that fast, for a car with 670hp. Hopefully, the ZR1 will perform the way a 1000hp Supercar should.

The 458 was manufactured from 2009-2015...Why are there so many TH-camrs showing 2023s and 24's C8 Z06s lining up against a 10 year old car as if it's the benchmark today is nuts. I've seen just one Ytuber take it on. Why not the 488 Gtb?
I understand you're point , however none of those cars can compare to the Z06 , they arent as comfortable or equipped as the Z06. And the Z06 destroys those cars on track while being 500 ibs heavier with double cargo space

@@jesse_iwuji Challenge accepted. GM has openly admitted they disassembled a FERRARI 458 to study during the development and design of this car. Not some old Cadillac. Also, whether or not they designed a flat plane crank ages ago or not, it’s not simply the crank design that made the 458 the world beater it was and still is till this day. Building an engine that can reliably produce this amount of horsepower and reach these revs requires far more than a crank design. Just ask BMW, Audi and Lamborghini.
Z06 was copied/reverse engineered from a modern classic. Shows the 458 was incredible back 10 years ago. GM purchased a 458 to copy its engine. Known fact

There is so much misinformation spreading about this. If you read the interviews with the Corvette engineers, they had already designed and built this engine prior to purchasing a 458 engine, which they took apart to figure out how Ferrari handled certain vibration effects in an FPC. They also stated that while the way Ferrari handle the vibration was clever, they ended up doing it differently. Ferrari did not invent the FPC nor pioneer its usage for racing or production car use. For starters, the FPC V8 was originally released into mass production by Cadillac in 1918. Further, in racing it was originally developed in the ***USA*** for an Indy car, known as the Novi engine, all the way back in ***1941*** (3L displacement, FPC 450 hp at 8,000 rpm), over two decades before Ferrari even attempted an FPC V8, and was developed and raced all the way up into the 1960s (742 hp at 8200 rpm in 1962). It is one of the most famous Indy racing engines ever built. In Europe in the post- World War II era Coventry Climax out of the UK in the mid 1950s, later Alfa Romeo and Lotus began using the FPC V8s in racing applications decades before Ferrari adopted them. So did Ferrari “steal” from Novi, Coventry Climax, Alfa Romeo whose top engine designers they hired in the late 1960s? What do you think? As far as mid engine configuration goes, there were working Corvette prototypes with a mid engine V8 in the mid to late 1960s, nearly a decade before Ferrari introduced their first rear engine V8 sports cars, and Ford and Alfa Romeo also released mid engine V8 sports cars prior to Ferrari doing it. Well, I did this video because someone said a "14-year-old Ferrari is faster than a new Z06 & that Americans can't do anything right" and I wanted to see how the Z06 did. Really wanted him to be wrong but that Ferrari did pull up top. Now on a track, I'm pretty sure the Z06 would win. But I was also pretty sure the Z06 would win in a straight line too so who knows.
Bizarre, raced two 458 with our z06 and pulled the whole time so i have no idea how the 458 was even around. Emilia had same result against 458 and huracan

In boxing to beat the champ you got to knock them out , Chevy on the right path it's just low volume production supercars have less restrictions than main stream brands , American government safety restrictions effect aero and bumper height for the mainstream brands , corvette needs it's own brand that separates from Chevrolet then they can let loose if they can financially support itself.

Wrong! Because back then a GTR would beat the 458 Italia....even though the GTR was heavier. The Z06 is an amazing supetcar. But is not that fast, for a car with 670hp. Hopefully, the ZR1 will perform the way a 1000hp Supercar should.

The 458 was manufactured from 2009-2015...Why are there so many TH-camrs showing 2023s and 24's C8 Z06s lining up against a 10 year old car as if it's the benchmark today is nuts. I've seen just one Ytuber take it on. Why not the 488 Gtb?

The 488 has the same chassis as the 458. It’s heavier. And the ZO6 matches it in acceleration and out handles it. Next question?

Listen to the original creators of Country music, oppress them and deconstruct their creation then call it their own. Do the same with Blues music. Then literature. Then dance. Now literally steal the design and engineering the Italians had the talent to create, then nearly a decade later compare the stolen technology to the original and brag about the results. Same play. I’d like to challenge that my friend. GM didn’t steal the flat plans crank from Italy, Ferrari stole it from GM. Cadillac introduced the first flat-plane crank V8 engine in 1923…Enzo was only a child at that time
@@jesse_iwuji Challenge accepted. GM has openly admitted they disassembled a FERRARI 458 to study during the development and design of this car. Not some old Cadillac. Also, whether or not they designed a flat plane crank ages ago or not, it’s not simply the crank design that made the 458 the world beater it was and still is till this day. Building an engine that can reliably produce this amount of horsepower and reach these revs requires far more than a crank design. Just ask BMW, Audi and Lamborghini.

It's like the young fellas comparing the modern Mr. Olympias to Arnold. Thank goodness Ferrari created the 458, otherwise GM couldn't have copied it, and we wouldn't have the Z06 to enjoy and admire! =)
There is so much misinformation spreading about this. If you read the interviews with the Corvette engineers, they had already designed and built this engine prior to purchasing a 458 engine, which they took apart to figure out how Ferrari handled certain vibration effects in an FPC. They also stated that while the way Ferrari handle the vibration was clever, they ended up doing it differently. Ferrari did not invent the FPC nor pioneer its usage for racing or production car use.
For starters, the FPC V8 was originally released into mass production by Cadillac in 1918. Further, in racing it was originally developed in the ***USA*** for an Indy car, known as the Novi engine, all the way back in ***1941*** (3L displacement, FPC 450 hp at 8,000 rpm), over two decades before Ferrari even attempted an FPC V8, and was developed and raced all the way up into the 1960s (742 hp at 8200 rpm in 1962). It is one of the most famous Indy racing engines ever built.
In Europe in the post- World War II era Coventry Climax out of the UK in the mid 1950s, later Alfa Romeo and Lotus began using the FPC V8s in racing applications decades before Ferrari adopted them. So did Ferrari “steal” from Novi, Coventry Climax, Alfa Romeo whose top engine designers they hired in the late 1960s? What do you think?
As far as mid engine configuration goes, there were working Corvette prototypes with a mid engine V8 in the mid to late 1960s, nearly a decade before Ferrari introduced their first rear engine V8 sports cars, and Ford and Alfa Romeo also released mid engine V8 sports cars prior to Ferrari doing it.
Enzo had to be pulled kicking and screaming into producing mid engine sports cars by his son, and only did so reluctantly after the success of the Ford GT and Lamborghini Miura . Even then, he wouldn’t put the Ferrari name on the first mid engine car he released, the Dino, which was a V6: the V8 FPC didn’t come until the mid 1970s, 30 years after it was introduced in America into Indy racing.
