The lore of souls coming from flame in Dark Souls is probably taken from The Silmarillion, where the souls of the Maia and Vala (and mortals) are taken from the Flame Imperishable. 2. "Anor Londo" and "Irithyll" borrow from Tolkien's Sindarin elvish. "Anor" means the sun, "Ithyll" is the moon, which matches the look of both locations. 3. Besides Bayle's name referencing Balerion, Igon's name probably references Aegon I who was Balerion's rider. 4. The cats with huge teeth in DS1 are almost definitely a reference to Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. 5. The names of the Bloodhound and Crucible Knights in Elden Ring reference Geological periods and epochs. Bloodhound Knight Darriwil references the Darriwilian epoch of the upper Devonian. "Ordovis", "Siluria", and "Devonia" are named for the Ordovician, Silurian, and Devonian periods in Earth's history. Trees did not properly evolve yet during these periods which hints that the Crucible knights are older than the Erdtree. 6. Surprised you didn't mention the parallels between Miquella and Griffith. Story spoilers, probably. 7. The great katana in the DLC seems to use the moveset of the longsword from Monster Hunter. I've heard people say this is actually just the basic way you use a nodachi IRL, but I cannot find a source or video verifying this. I could easily be wrong. 8. The Demi-human swordmaster seems to be a nod to Yoda with his acrobatic swordsmanship, a glowing sword, and he can use "the force" too. 9. Jolan's helmet, the Helm of Night, looks uncannily like Sauron's helmet in Peter Jackson's depiction of him.
Some of these, like the Yoda one, I actually recorded but didn't use them in the final video. Most of them I'd never heard before, so thanks for telling me! You forgot to mention the giant furnace golems in the Elden Ring DLC, which are not only a reference to Celtic culture, but also Berserk again. It appears to draw reference from the Wickerman, a giant wicker golem that is lit on fire while filled with people.
It’s awesome to see berserk live on in a way through the works of FromSoftware. Dark Souls and Elden Ring are full of references to it and although I’ve never read the manga I know it’s had a profound effect on so many people. It’s really cool to see people cosplaying as Guts in all these games given that your character goes through so much in a similar way that Guts does.
Another Easter egg (albeit a small one) I found would be the Wintern-Lantern Fly in the Abyssal Woods area of SOTE, as there was also an enemy called the Winter-Lantern in Bloodborne.
Didn't even mention the coolest part of the first Easter egg. He says "grabbed by a shadowy hand" which is something that happens a lot in Bloodborne (Amygdalas grab you) and it can transport you to different dimensions (like the Hunter's nightmare, or in this case, lordran)
I haven't seen anyone mention the statues of Monumentals that can be found at the Scorched Ruins, that was a real nostalgia hit for me! Great showcase of the other easter eggs, looking forward to more discoveries. 🗿

@@FunWithGuru omg yeah you are right. Also in the base game there is an area called "forbidden lands" just like the name of the place you are in sotc. Never looked into the japense names tho. So could just be coincidence + there is no visual correlation between those places. Nevertheless nice :D
also there's a Yoda easter egg too. forgot whats the little troll with a sword you can get as a summons name in the dlc. but if u read his back story and lore it's literally Yoda. moves like him too

That's how you so easter eggs/references! FS Games are intensely self referencial. It makes them highly rewarding to go from their rpgs (Souls, King's Field) to action games (Armored Core) to other stuff (Echo Night). And done without ruining the atmosphere.
DS2 has the best looking version of Gut’s sword. If you kill The Rotten on NG+ and get the old dead ones soul you can transpose that into the Crypt Blacksword. Its almost an exact replica of the Dragon Slayer from Berserk
dont miss out the reference in the DLC: Miquella and its Band of Miquella is a direct reference to Griffith (who resembles Miquella and vice versa) and its band of the hawk!
This was a great video. It should have more views. Though I would add that Igon is a reference to "Aegon the Conqueror", who rides Balerion the Black Dread ( which that is the full name of the Dragon) in A Song of Ice and Fire.
I don't personally believe Chester was intentionally referencing Bloodborne. I just think it conveniently worked out that way. Bloodborne was in development during the making of the DLC for DS1 and From was likely testing things like cloth physics and combat using Chester's model. Since every game uses the exact same engine, it was easy for them to just plop him down into the game for testing and they ended up keeping him in. He also has a kick that was somewhat present in earlier builds of Bloodborne before getting cut.
Recently you commented you weren’t doing so good - and I hope you took the time you needed and are now doing better. Your videos are still the last ones I watch before sleep, because they calm me. Thanks for this one, Guru!

dude also in shadow of the erdtree, in the rauh ruins, theres a giant room with a scorpion in the center that looks exactly like najka's boss room in ds2
I would love to see all the Berserk references in all fromsoft games. The tree with the hanging corpses in the DLC is one i immedietly recognized for example.
Another deep cut easter egg in Elden Ring's DLC is the Winter-Lantern Fly found near a new enemy who looks very similar to the original Winter-Lantern enemies in Bloodborne.
Yeah! I could have done a full video on the DLC tbh. There's also a spirit summon call Yosh, a little guy who jumps around with a green sword that's clearly meant to be a Yoda reference.
@@FunWithGuru Ohh that didn’t even click with me lol Even his and his masters’ lore has strong lines to Yoda/Star Wars. You definitely should if you find the time, their DLCs are always some of my favorites, feels like the devs indulge in their inspirations and there’s always callbacks to other series within their own catalogue.
I feel like quite a lot of references are missing there, especially from the older games. Of the top of my head I can think of the skeleton wheels in DS1 who also came straight from Berzerk, the Phalanx Demon from Demon's Souls who made its way to the painted world of DS1 or the reoccuring Moonlight's sword originally from Armored Core.
I honestly just forgot to put in the Moonlight Sword. I even recorded it in all the games. The Berserk stuff I didn't show because I thought it might get a bit repetitive with how much there is. I was also only interested in showing what I considered the most notable references. I'd love to make this video an hour long and focus on every single reference, but I have to appeal to a wide audience who might not be as interested in all the nerdy details like me.
The Moonlight Sword was the final weapon in King's Field, which came out before Armored Core. Also Kalameet & Seath are references to the 2 main dragons in King's Field
I really appreciate that! Thanks so much! (I'm actually recording an Assassin's Creed video as I type this btw, probably won't be out until Shadows though.)
Great video. It's a shame you've been putting out such great content and haven't reached a million subscribers. A travesty actually. Give this person some more love people!
I love how connected Fromsoftwares games feel, with the sole exception maybe being Dark Souls II. At least I didn't feel the magic when I played that game.
It's the one FromSoft game I hadn't even attempted to play. This video was the first time playing it. I thought some of the world design was pretty cool, but I could tell from the very beginning it wasn't as engaging for me. Maybe I should give it a proper attempt though.
@@FunWithGuru i had a rough time with it at first but then it kind a grew on me. It felt like a first souls-type game you play, u need to get use to its design and get a grip on things, and appriciate the jank.. If you know what I mean 😅
Dark souls 2 has the best lore in the trilogy, the fact that is so disconnected made it feel like time actually passed, to the point of ppl actually forgetting who started the fire cycle, and lucatiel quest is the perfect example of what the curse does
I didn't either before making the video. Players only found it because there's a small hint in the game's official strategy guide. I guess it's also not common knowledge because the reward isn't worth the trouble.

This was a great video. It should have more views. Though I would add that Igon is a reference to "Aegon the Conqueror", who rides Balerion the Black Dread ( which that is the full name of the Dragon) in A Song of Ice and Fire.
Despite these games not having many easter eggs it's always a pleasure to watch your vids
In AC6 they constantly reference Elden Ring's DLC release date (621) :) It was in front of our faces all along
Love the game transitions, this was such a good and well made video
Thank you very much! 😊
"Lead the boar, down this short path" Dumbledore asked calmly
So glad they referenced the fantasy icon of our generation, The Lord of the Rings, with the nine Nazgul. Big fan, Fromsoft
There is a hammer in Shadow of the Erdtree called "Smithscript Greathammer" that is ASSUREDLY a reference to Mjolnir.
Recently you commented you weren’t doing so good - and I hope you took the time you needed and are now doing better. Your videos are still the last ones I watch before sleep, because they calm me. Thanks for this one, Guru!
My anxiety around posting videos is still very much there, but I feel more confident that I will push through it eventually. Thanks for the support! ❤️
@@FunWithGuru sounds totally understandable. Im sure it can be a lot. But everyone is here because they chose to be. I believe there’s nothing to chase, or worry about, you obviously already got it. But what do I know! Anxiety is hard on us and difficult to reason with.
Of course you’ll push through it, or do something else that makes you happier :) It’s not the end of the world and health goes first. Makes my night to read your reply, take good care Guru :)

Right down the road.
Right down the road.
Right down the road.
Right. Down buh-bye!"
dude also in shadow of the erdtree, in the rauh ruins, theres a giant room with a scorpion in the center that looks exactly like najka's boss room in ds2
I’ve been watching your uploads ever since 2011, and every upload is a fun experience. Thank you
I would love to see all the Berserk references in all fromsoft games. The tree with the hanging corpses in the DLC is one i immedietly recognized for example.
Nice video, Guru 😍 you should do a video with all references of Berserk in From Software games...there are so many of it!❤
You ain't no man if that berserk outro mix didn't wet your eyes
I always thought that Radahn was the one inspired the most by Grunbeld
1:35 - no time ft. Gunna
3:02 That armor is also a reference to the Phantom Blood manga :0
Also Igon's rivalry with Bayle is a reference of Captain Ahab with Moby Dick
As a funny aside, for anyone who doesn't know, the english voice actor for Wolf in Sekiro is the same VA for Charles in RDR2.
I had no idea! Thanks for the info.
@@FunWithGuru no prob
That bloodborne transition hit me so hard 😢
Damn 9 riders? I only fought like 4. It like in my first playthrough the only Deathrite Bird I've met was the one near castle Sol
Do we want to talk about how the role of Miquella is like the role of Griffith in berserk? How their charisma influences and lead people and armies.
the only bloodborne easter egg, experienced by few, but shown in this video, is the 60 fps mode
I’ve been binging your videos these past few days… this feels like a reward 😂
Ngl this is one of the best videos I have ever watched! Thank you.
I really appreciate that! Thanks so much!
(I'm actually recording an Assassin's Creed video as I type this btw, probably won't be out until Shadows though.)
"this short path"
proceeds to go throught the entire fucking map
Lol I was playing Gwendolyns pin pin plon theme on piano and I was also thinking of funwithguru's videos and now here is this video
No you wasn’t. Also it’s Gwyn… Gwyndolin is a different boss
@@mikeyb0121 well you weren't there, so glad you have your opinion but I did play
1:32 the No Time instrumental best Easter egg in the vid lmao
The best start of the day, new Guru video about Fromsoftware easter eggs! Excellent quality as always🤩🤩
thanks very much!
I never thought i needed Arthur ashina until now
Great video.
@@FunWithGurupeople say fromsofts B team worked on dark souls 2 while their A team worked on bloodborne
Dark souls 2 has the best lore in the trilogy, the fact that is so disconnected made it feel like time actually passed, to the point of ppl actually forgetting who started the fire cycle, and lucatiel quest is the perfect example of what the curse does
Dark Souls 2 is more connected to From's earlier works like the King's Field games rather than just DS
Also Moongrum is a reference to Moonglum from the Moorcock fantasy books
Always a good day when a new Guru video drops.
"Down this short path"
Right down the road. 🐦
I never knew about the ds2 weapon one, im genuinely suprised
I didn't either before making the video. Players only found it because there's a small hint in the game's official strategy guide. I guess it's also not common knowledge because the reward isn't worth the trouble.
