Hey there! What do you think about Beyond Magnetic? Which song is your favorite? Why do you think Metallica decided not to put these songs on the record? What would be your tracklist for Death Magnetic if you were to pick?
Tbh I think Beyond Magnetic is amongst the best work Metallica has done in their entire career. My favorite seems to switch back and forth all the time between Just A Bullet Away and Rebel of Babylon. Those 2 definitely should've made the DM album.
Love watching them going through the creating process. Can only imagine the awesome heavy songs I could put together if I were doing this full time. What a killer job that would be. So fun. 🤘
I wish people would circulate the part of the video where Kirk is taught a riff and plays it perfectly in each key called for. Not that fkn stupid clip from SKOM
Great job with this. I think I would have at least put JUST A BULLET AWAY on the album...though I'm not sure what I would have cut. Lots of people bitch about SUICIDE & REDEMPTION, but I really like it. None of these four songs were quite as good as the best songs on DEATH MAGNETIC, but they were pretty much as good as most of the songs. My favorite songs from DEATH MAGNETIC were (in this order): THE END OF THE LINE (one of my five favorite Metallica songs), THAT WAS JUST YOUR LIFE (one of their strongest openers) and THE DAY THAT NEVER COMES (reminds me a lot of ONE). This EP was great. Thanks for doing such a great job compiling all this footage into a doc similar to the one made for the original LP. Subscribed!
Tbh I think I'd take out BB&S and put JABA in it's place, then slap Rebel of Babylon on the end after My Apocalypse and call it an album. Edit: TWJYL is on par with Blackened when it comes to amazing album openers.
Metallica are so experienced and wise and I think they chose the 4 "weakest" songs from the pool. That doesn't mean that the 4 songs on Beyond Magnetic are bad songs. It's just that the quality of the other songs was too high :)
For all the shit about Bob Rock he made sure there was at least a base standard that the solos had to meet. If you watch the Hardwired studio stuff in particular, Kirk really is just phoning in the solos and comping bits of improv together from multiple takes. It's an incredibly lazy way to do it.
@@paulmallon9292he said plenty of times he prefers improv over composing because he likes to live in the moment. Some of us like to be less heady about things in middle-age.
@paulmallon9292 did I say it was better? I said the man says he likes to improvise and live in the moment. That's his appraoch. As for wanting things to be less heady, as a middle-aged musician I can relate. It's not for everyone, but for some of us we go for feeling in our playing instead of thinking in our playing, good, bad or indifferent. Do your thing, he'll do his.

Just a bullet away is my favourite. It should have been on Death magnetic for sure.

Hell And Back is by far the best composed.
DM 🤟🏻 Bullet Away 🔫 what’s the difference 🤷♂️ Just put it on shuffle 🔀
This video really illustrates how spot on James' sense of tempo is.
29:25 pedal
These 4 songs are some of their best work.
Rick Rubin is a ghost in this one, you hear him but rarely see him

Beyond Magnetic is beyond exception. A cyclops in the Metallica collection 🤘🏼
38:48 James or Kirk playing the Spirit of Radio!

The Day That Never Comes number 1 for me. Very Epic
also the judas kiss, that chorus riff is sooo sick

Cool to see Het getting pumped at 4:40
Just a bullet away is such a killer track. Bring it back!
49:39 his B-bender guitar.... So cool

23:36 this fun never translated beyond the studio thanks to those mixes. Sad

I like "rebel of babylon", though i would not change anything from the album or the ep. I think they did it right.
These songs are awesome I just wish James would beef up his gain a bit on the guitar tones.
Did you like hardwired and 72’s tone?
@@wilkeseyberry26 it’s ok, I just think it’s too polished and needs a little more gain. But it’s good.
@@mattwatts33 he likes that tighter sound for some reason.
The snare at 35:28 Oof
Yo no escuchado ese disco ni el que sigue porque metallica ya pasó
32:13 🤣 💀
Love Death Magnetic it’s really a metal grooving record throughout. The only album I can’t listen to is St.Anger because of that damn tin snare 😂
These four songs are all better than all but one off the following two albums lol in my opinion
I hope will never be buried...😭😭☠️
42:40 he predicted Fortnite! 😨

Kirk stopped pushing himself 22 years ago. shame.

@@blkrekluse so you think his modern playing is better? I'm also in my mid 40s. The photo of me there is very, very old.
