Last Faith was also pretty good - one of the better MVs. And they did fix the monster form - i tried it, it wasn’t the instant win mode, so had to stick to git gud tactics.
"Carrion" genre is usually defined as a "Reverse Horror", but the only thing that comes into my mind to "have the same vibe" is a one-and-only "Dungeon Keeper". It's a complete different genre, but so much joy to be a bad guy in these games. For sure there are a lot of other games with an evil protagonist, but "Carrion" really stands out.
Haven't played Last Faith because I got the physical edition coming from the kickstarter, however I remember the damage boost of the Beast form was a glitch, its only supposed to do damage equivalent to your weapon. Also I noticed in the 1.5 patch it says all late game bosses are scaled up.

Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow are by far the best two Castlevania games. There's people who swear by SotN, but there's a good chance those people have only ever played SotN.
@@Ohmagawdjr Eh Dawn of Sorrow shouldn't be regarded as highly as Aria, I believe that most other metroidvanias in the series are at least slightly better

So glad to see Aria getting some love. I played last year and instantly became my favorite Castlevania. It's so tight that can compete with modern game by virtue of its focus. I'll say this: Bloodstained os one of those where the fans acknowledge the jank in the game, yet come to like it for its charm. It's not the best but still fun.
I enjoyed the last faith very much and anticipated it for some years however on console it still has issues I got the plat on ps4 at launch. but due to it being such a small indie team the game has big issues such as frame drop and data being corrupt, Refusing to save new data and devs are unresponsive 😢
I’d love to answer this question, but I need to replay some of his other works before giving my definitive answer. But it’d either be Aria or Dawn. Probably Aria 😆
I played the first and loved it. I dropped 2 and 3 early in, mostly because I wasn’t in the mood to play them. That was at launch so it’s been YEARS now 😆

@@lkb-sm9tg I highly recommend it to everyone. But different people obviously like different things in MVs so it depends on the player. I thoroughly enjoyed it's non-hand-holding, rewarding exploration, huge map, tons of bosses and enemy variety, good weapon variety (which you can equip two at once and combo attacks between them). The story isn't the easiest to follow but it doesn't ruin the game overall. Guru has a review of it too.
@@lkb-sm9tg If you like big maps with lots of variety, items, weapons and side content, it'll be a dream, specially with how smooth combat can be. The story takes some effort to piece together, but it still a rewarding experience overall.
Idk about people's taste nowaday, but I think Bloodstaned is one of the most overrated Metrodvania out there, but it is rated so highly in MV genre and sell so much. There is definitely some highlights of the game like a lot of spells/weapon to choose, but overall it does not leave an impression on me. Here is a list of things I think the game is not very good: 1. Very generic and forgettable 2.5D artstyle. 2. Boring fetch quests that do not add ANYTHING to the world building. 3. None-existent difficulty (only first 2 bosses has challenge i remember, and you cant even choose higher difficulty from get go) 4. Generic / unimaginative biomes (like you mentioned before). Fire area, ice area, castle, library, etc. The only thing that stands out is the painting world. 5. Terrible voice acting that breaks the immersion (I listen to English VA) 6. Pretty hilarious /forgettable plot. 7. Grinding for completion (farming same enemies over and over wishing to upgrade spells. It's not a bad game by any means but highest I can put is a B tier, and does not deserve 96% overwhelming positive score.
To me, combat was so boring I stopped playing it after an hour or so. There are just so many better MVs out there...I also cannot understand all the praise
I think even B tier is too high for Bloodstained. The voice acting is abysmal. The quests are repetitive, lazy, and uninspired. The bosses are terribly outdated with a couple of exceptions. The 2.5d graphics didn't look good on this particular game. Lastly, I know this is supposed to be a call back SotN, but the utter lack of innovation after getting $5.5m on the kickstarter was extremely disappointing. Why do I still have to open the menu to heal?
