I've listened to this 5 times in a row idk why but "teach me how to play guitar, hold my cigarette like a superstar, teach me how to steal a car" gets to my soul and I just dont know why..
When I first discovered this song when I was 14 (20 years ago) I absolutely obsessed over this part! The demo is far superior to the studio version imo
i almost prefer this version to the album version, it's that verse "teach me how to play guitar, hold my cigarette like a superstar, teach me how to steal a car..." i just think was lacking from the album version, and would have made it better
i agree that the lyrics are much better here, as well as the song itself.. it captures the libertines when they were a young underground band with a different sort of punk rock intertwined with beatlesy sixites riffs as in this a beautiful lyrics
@Malte Laurids Brigge yeah why do you say that ? are you just being facetious because he goes on to say 'their vision of you'? which, to be fair, does change the tone and make it far more bitter. it's also easy to miss the first time, i've probably heard this well over 100 times tho.... odo you actually think it's not there because you've not heard it? either way you're wrong
this isn't the libertines this is pete doherty and wolfman during som babyshambles session, it's not all that hard to find either, but this one has the clearest sound out of all the ones i've found so far so cheers for uploading it
At this time, he clearly blamed the people around Carl Bârat for being ejected from The Libertines (They took him out and down he sings of himself, while You twist and tore our love apart becomes They twist and pulled...), while elsewhere in the song theres a whiff of gritted-teeth nostalgia for their past friendship (You taught me how play guitar/Smoke like a superstar).
Actually, this is just Pete playing. Using a drum machine and playing all the other instruments by himself. It's from the 'Branding Sessions'. "The Branding Sessions contain two tracks, that were recorded by Peter Doherty sometime between March 2004 and August 2004. Although they were recorded only by Doherty, they are often credited to The Libertines."
Same. There's multiple versions of just about song of Pete with both bands. I've heard about 50 versions of Fuck Forever and still can't find the first version I heard years ago! Same with Killamangiro, I had a version of that song that is nothing like the official version. I was shocked when I got the album and it was completely different
It features a primitive drum machine, guitar and vocals. In the way that the lyrics differ from the original its a decidedly uncomfortable but revealing snapshot of Peters state of mind.
It closes with a paranoid belief that its not only The Libertines machine against him, but the world as a whole. (I read every review/They all prefer you). In reality, only for the most cynically voyeuristic. Read my post in reverse order:)

The Libertines - Can't Stand Me Now Lyrics An ending fitting for the start You twist and tore our love apart Your light fingers through the dark Shattered the lamp, into darkness it cast us all No, you've got it the wrong way round You shut me up and blamed it on the brown Cornered the boy, kicked out at the world The world kicked back a lot fuckin' harder now If you wanna try, if you wanna try There's no worse you could do, oh oh oh I know you lie, I know you lie I'm still in love with you, oh oh oh Can't take me anywhere I'll take you anywhere Can't take me anywhere Well, I can't take you anywhere I'll take you anywhere you wanna go You can't stand me, no You can't stand me, no You can't stand me, no You can't stand me, no Have we enough to keep it together? @BritRock93 Heard this for the very first time today, and yes, that line struck me a lot too, for some reason. It was just surprising, maybe, but it's wonderful! Sounds like a lap dog. It almost reminds me of There is a Light... by the Smiths, but I don't really know why

yea, the lyrics are quality here but the album versions got the
"have we enough to keep it together" bridge which is best part of the tune for me

Nice little nod back to Plan A to bookend the band's pro career: "I've read every review, no-one's got a fucking clue"
@maltelauridsbrigge3776 What do you think he sings?

The Libertines - Can't Stand Me Now Lyrics
An ending fitting for the start
You twist and tore our love apart
Your light fingers through the dark
Shattered the lamp, into darkness it cast us all
No, you've got it the wrong way round
You shut me up and blamed it on the brown
Cornered the boy, kicked out at the world
The world kicked back a lot fuckin' harder now
If you wanna try, if you wanna try
There's no worse you could do, oh oh oh
I know you lie, I know you lie
I'm still in love with you, oh oh oh
Can't take me anywhere
I'll take you anywhere
Can't take me anywhere
Well, I can't take you anywhere
I'll take you anywhere you wanna go
You can't stand me, no
You can't stand me, no
You can't stand me, no
You can't stand me, no
Have we enough to keep it together?
Or do we just keep on pretending and hope our luck is never ending
You tried to pull the wool, I wasn't feeling too clever
And you take all that they're lending
Until you needed mending on you
If you wanna try, if you wanna try
There's no worse you could do, oh oh oh
I know you lie , all you do is make me cry
And that is worse, that ain't true
Can't take me anywhere
I can't take you anywhere
Can't take me anywhere
Well, I won't take you anywhere
I'll take you anywhere you wanna go
You can't stand me, no
You can't stand me, no
You can't stand me, no
You can't stand me, no
it's not the words, it's demo version.
