In this video, I'll walk you through the process of how I designed and engineered a unique sculpture that resembles as a mini basketball game. The sculpture features two miniature basketball hoops and nets, and it shoots mini basketballs back and forth between them, creating an entertaining and interactive experience for viewers.
You can get the STL for the fully mechanical, fully printable version here:

These are the balls I used:

Much of this project was printed on my Bambulab X1 Carbon which I HIGHLY recommend (seriously, nothing beats it) Here’s my affiliate link: shrsl.com/2a5d5-2yn7-1cwx9
To create this sculpture, I started by sketching out my ideas and making a rough 3D model. Once I had a basic design, I began prototyping and testing various mechanisms for shooting the mini basketballs. After several iterations, I settled on a system that uses a stepper driven linkage design with a compound gear train.
Next, I had to figure out how to power the motor and control the timing and speed of the ball movement. I decided to use an Arduino microcontroller and some custom code to control the motor and trigger the ball release mechanism. I also added some sensors to detect when a ball had made it through the hoop and into the opposite scoop, which triggers the next shot.
The final sculpture is a combination of wood, metal, and plastic parts, all carefully crafted to fit together seamlessly. I'll walk you through the construction process, from cutting and sanding the wood to assembling the various components and wiring up the electronics.
Overall, this was a challenging but rewarding project that allowed me to combine my love of art and engineering. I hope you enjoy watching the process as much as I enjoyed building it! - วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี
This is absolutely incredible, both in engineering and aesthetics. I can't believe how consistently it makes the shots! Your perseverance is also inspiring - redesigning the entire shooting arm after having a fully working prototype took some real gumption.
Thanks brother! I feel like you know a thing or two about persevering!
Morley kert and JBVC ultimate collab?
As an old engineer, I consider tenacity to be my only real skill.
Good job God bless you
marvellous engineering! 👏
Thank you brother 👊👊
@@Engineezy sorry to ask this but man.. put two balls in this things but offset it by like, a half second. Please? (:
You are seriously improving your skills with every video I see!! Hopefully it makes others realize that it takes alot of trying, failing & learning what works & what doesnt to get positive results!!
Thank you! Definitely doesn't ever work on the first attempt!
@@Engineezy your leveling up for sure, just keep challenging yourself and the rest will just happen
@@Engineezy would you be willing to start a Discord community?
I show your videos to my students when they're setting out on the design process, I focus not only on your great designs but the finetuning and tweaking every mechanical element has to go through and how you overcome them with hard work and perseverance. They love your enthusiasm....thanks for making these REAL videos

Very cool result! Really like the combo between the wood and the white
Thank you! Agreed, has a vibe for sure 👌
Awesome project
Awesome storytelling
Awesome showcase of your perseverance!
Thanks Cameron! Appreciate it 👊
Best part, from a design standpoint, is the counter. Not even saying that in jest. Since failures are gonna happen, just incorporate them in the design. Bravo.
Haha exactly it 👌👌
This some of the best mechanical and technical skills on youtube, I just recently got a 3D printer, hope one day I can create contraptions like these!
Thanks Casey! Good luck, make sure to enjoy the process
You gotta love that industrial design team and their artistic creativity. Us ID guys are great
😅😅😅
Very awesome mezmorising piece of art/decor ! this should be installed in a store window
That would be cool! Thank you!
Enhorabuena por tan buen trabajo.

Appreciate it!
I've been following the build, looks awesome. Great work 😎👍👏👏👏👏
Thanks Richard 👊👊🙏🙏
For real bro that looked GREAT!!!!! It looked like it should have been a focal point for the exhibit... I can't believe it was the first thing u saw walking up.
Thank you!!
OMG i was strolling in downtown toronto with my friend and saw this piece randomly in an art gallery and we literally stopped and glued our faces to the glass (it was closed) staring at it go. It was absolutely incredible and i cant believe I'm finding this video months later 😭
That’s awesome!!
Amazing work! Subscribed!
Thank you!! Much appreciated
Really nice. Love it! 🌞
This truly fits the (at least one) definition of a work of art, because it's aesthetically pleasing, has no practical purpose, and cost w-a-a-a-a-y more than any reasonable person would be prepared to spend 😝
That absolutely nails it! But don’t forget about the attached meaning that may or may not have been made up once the piece arrived at the gallery
Very cool build. Plenty of engineering showcased with modern design and an artistic touch, very well done
Thanks Ivo! 👊👊👊
Wow you are an amazing engineer! Perfect!
Thanks 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
...until you move it.
Ataraxia has a flexible pla that supposedly works well, im about to order some to test myself, but maybe would work better in those 3am crunch hours 🤣 love the work as always
Haha yess the crunch time print/wash/cure can definitely be a little stressful. Ill check it out!
I love the imperfection.
Thanks Michael! The perfectionist in me thinks it can do without it haha!
ptsd from the funnels :) awesome work!
Hahaha I know eh! Thank you
That looked really top notch
Thank you 👊👊👊
Quite incredible man. Great imagination, determination and success. We're going to visit that art gallery this summer, hopefully the "super splash" i think you called it is still there. 🙏🏼👍
Thanks! It may not still be there, but maybe something new and fun!
Incredible!
Thank you 🙏

Very well put! I think every engineer/designer/creater goes through this same phase when making something
Forsure! Doesn’t really get easier from one project to the next either- I just gain more faith in the fact that I’ll get through it with something I’m happy with
Awesome! I bought the STL files because I'm trying to make a tennis ball throwing machine for my dog :) I assume I will have to make tweaks for the size and weight of the ball, but can you tell me what motor you ended up using. Any thoughts on upgrading this for a tennis ball would be appreciated as well. Again... great channel!
So awesome!!!
Thank you!!
I really hope this video goes super viral this is amazing
Thank you!
Great iterative design and build! It not only works, it looks beautiful ... and is wonderfully documented for the rest of us. Congratulations on a job well done. (Re the undersized holes, you might want to treat yourself to a reamer. I get much a much better result than the twist drill that tends to grab and tear.)
Thank you very much! And I will look into it 🙏🙏
Awesome Job! I'm subscribing to see what else you do!
Thanks Rick! Hopefully I wont disappoint
Absolutely brilliant I wish I had the skill set to do such excellent work as this always enjoy watching your videos
Thank you! And thanks for watching 🙏
This is fire 🔥
🙏🙏🙏🙏
That's really Good!!!
Thank you!!
That is why i like your chanel
Funny , crazy , brillant , genius , and more !
Thanks Gil! Cheers :)
Wooo that is so cool!
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙌
This is so flipping awesome 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks Adam! Appreciate it!
As an industrial design engineer, this video was an instant home run! Or rather a bank shot, I guess 😇
(I do design and construction, not sports)
Hahaha! Maybe its a windmill dunk?
@@Engineezy I figured it wouldn't be a dunk since your machine threw the ball from a distance ^^
But then again, I did google "basketball terminology" while typing my comment 🤓
What a nice mechanical piece!
Though I'd love to see the arms each throw a ball almost at once in quick succession. The ball barely missing one another.
That would be cool, maybe when I get it back I can make it happen
That is just amazing
Thanks 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Lovin’ that X1
It absolutely rips!
@@Engineezy Mine will be here Tuesday. I am a beginner.
