Used to work there painting planes for a flight systems in the mid 90's It was shut down at that tim e but there were a few fighters still being housed there it was awesome when they would still train there free air shows
Thank you so much for this video my dad was stationed here in 1969 and I was a 9 year old boy living on the air base. Sure has changed alot since I was there but remember those wart hogs flying over our heads while we biked along the streets and fishing in a pond down the road where there was a big snapper turtle we called king kong happy days, Im now 60 years old and my parents are passed on but memorys stay with us. I live in the UK
I went on google earth to find where I our old house was it was in woodland park on Willow street and i used to go fishing at the lake close by called Mallard Lake I also went school at woodland park school, Happy days
Redinna Long my dad also retired with 20 years of service in the Air Force although he was never stationed at Myrtle Beach his younger brother was and he also retired with 20 years.
I was stationed there from 1982-1984 as a jet engine mechanic! good times! It sure has changed!

My Daddy was stationed here 1960 to 1963, everything was on base, we lived on Juniper Drive. We were also in Hurricane Donna while living there

Did temporary duty there 1960 to open and control air traffic in the newly opened control tower..
