Als er 1982 in einem schweren Unfall mit Riccardo Paletti verwickelt war, half er das brennende Wrack von Paletti zu löschen. Leider ist Paletti und Peterson gestorben.

So he decided to devote himself to offshore speedboats and unfortunately a year after that TV report he will die in an accident.

Pironi's twin sons were born after his death. They are named Didier and Gilles. Gilles Pironi works for the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team.
