Good to meet you! Yeah, we had a great time at the Classic cars and restoration show 👍 I'm working on the next vid now, where we rebuild the vanos and refit it again, should be a good one! Cheers, Phil
Subscribed. I have this job to do on my 'mental health project' that I bought after my daughter was abducted by her mother. It's a 1998 BMW 523i Touring SE Auto. M52B25 engine, single VANOS. I'm a DIY beginner but needed something to focus on to take my mind off the pain of grieving my daughter and the guilt and shame that comes with being a parent unable to protect their child and a man who suffered post-separation domestic abuse. Thank you for your guidance on this project - I'll be watching this video several times before I get started as I find the whole timing locking and engine exposed situation absolutely terrifying as it's all very new to me. Well done on your channel, it's going to be a great resource for me as I restore my E39 Touring.
Hi @mattiegallagher1326 sorry to hear about the trauma you have endured. As you say, a project can go a long way to taking your mind off of things, which can be a relief. Also, just an idea, if there are any local car meets for your kind of car or a local club, you should start taking it along (if it's a roller), you'll get great information and ideas from people and the social aspect is nice too. If you are going to tackle this job as a relative beginner, then plan, plan, plan, make sure you know exactly what you are doing. Supplement videos like mine with technical manuals (even something like a Haynes manual will help you lots), and if the Vanos work isn't too urgent, maybe start with easier jobs first. Good luck with it!, sounds like a very nice car! Cheers, Phil;
Thanks so much! Great to hear from a viewer from Belgium 🇧🇪 😎 Yes, I have a rebuild and then reassemble video, you can find it here, hope you enjoy it! Thanks, Phil BMW VANOS Rebuild & Replacement | E36 / E39 | EASY Step-by-Step Guide! th-cam.com/video/DnUwG9_9w7o/w-d-xo.html
Hi @andrewmclaughlin1086 very sorry, my intention was to issue the 2nd video the following weekend! We are currently selling our house and have been crazy busy getting it ready for sale. Thank you for the kind words about my content, really appreciate it, new vid out soon, I'm targeting it for this Sunday! 👍Cheers, Phil P.S. I like the spectrums that you do on your channel! 😀
Yes I do! Basically, the way I plan my work is just fixing what comes up as a problem on my small fleet of cars. The Merc has been pretty reliable, I’ve had the wheel bearing adjustment job a few months ago, the recent dead battery problem was on my Merc. Keep watching, I’m sure the Merc will break soon! 😂 thanks, Phil
@@eriksony6398 Sorry for the slow reply! Thank you for the offer, I already have a Merc Scanner, it is a TopDon Artidiag, can't remember the model but it does "almost" everything I need it to do. I'm having a problem with "SOS not ready" and it's the telecommunications unit that needs to be coded in (long story but it is from another car) but my understanding is that this is beyond most scanners and you need software and a device to do coding... but if your device can do this, give me a shout and I'd be glad to feature it! Cheers, Phil

Very good, very clear and what a wonderful ease.
