I don't think it was particularly tough but was one of those unusual cases where most contestants picked the wrong seat for them. I'm sure if you shuffled it around to suit everybody then it would be 0 down, 15 to go after the first round.
This was the best quiz show in the history of broadcasting, it had a broad spectrum of both audience and contestants (who were not dependent on having a clasical education). The show should be brought back and replace Noel edmands...
there was another episode with 10-player demolition, it was from series 15 in 1995 . Its available on youtube. You can find it on Daniel Carter's channel but he has tons of episodes on there.

I think when Bill returned the next series it was actually 11 down 4 to go after the first round. He again got to the final with 3 lives but on that occasion there were too many popular culture questions that didn't suit him and he lost with about 103 points.
ooh geez, looks like Channel 4 have taken down the actual final round clip. As well as the Millennium quiz which took place later in the year (in which our pal Bill only scraped into the 2nd round)

I have a funny feeling they purposely made the questions in the final so easy to the point that Bill could get all 40 right only because so many were eliminated in Round 1 and they wanted the final to last all 40 questions to fill out the program.

I loved this show, always switched this on when I came home from college. Can't stand the show channel 4 are playing now. Deal or no deal has to be the most boring game show in the history of TV. Bring this back!!
@@christycooper5263 yeah they did, nowhere near as good though unfortunately. The biggest disappointment was them stretching it out to an hour long, it ruined it. The quick fire half hour format was what gave the show it's charm

From what I've heard, if more than 12 people were eliminated in the first round, they would have scrapped the round and started again from the top. I'm not sure how accurate this might be though.
I think Channel 4 have actually reclaimed it mate. Fair do’s I guess🤔 I mean, it is their ‘intellectual’ property after all. And, I did have a good run with nigh on 150k views. Enjoy the opening round while you can👍🏼
People on the new version with Sandi Toksvig seem to be obsessed with nominating in the finals, you rarely see a top score even near 200 let alone 400+..
Ahhh that would be the day. Get Mr Stewart out of retirement or whatever he's doing now, if Nicholas Parsons can still host Just a Minute aged 90, I don't think William G Stewart would stop at 78!

Dont really watch the new version rubbish but i think there is no prize for top of the finals board, may be wrong as dont watch but if so it explains low scores as doesnt matter if you are 1st or 15th so not as much point in taking a risk. Just gotta get a score around 150-180 to be 'sure' think in the first revival series there were only 25eps? so top 15 make final so any old tactical score likely to be good for a shot at 40k. Think there are more eps in later series but compared to the 60-70 eps of original you've only gotta get a higher score than half the field.

There was 2,265 episodes of the show during the William G Stewart era. So there's no reason to believe the feat was easy or the show was rigged.
