As usual you provide a clearly demonstrated common sense approach to the maintenance & repair of things that go south. I also consider myself a handyman extraordinaire (patting myself on the back here) and find myself fixing things for friends, neighbors, and relatives. At times this seems to get out of hand as these events frequently occur when I need to spend the time on my own repairs. But, as you stated, I get a lot of satisfaction doing this, not only because of the money saved, but being able to help others. It's the one of the ways I get a lot of pleasure in life.
So, my hat's off to you for publishing these tips as I'm sure your reaching out to help others is greatly appreciated.

A trick I have used when disassembling something for the first time is to use my cell phone camera and take pictures at each stage. Has saved my butt several times.

Good to be able to repair a malfunctioning compressor. Often when things don't work or don't work properly there really is not much wrong with them.

The best way to remember how to put it together is to take pictures of the disassembly at various stages of the disassembly

Excellent video Sir . Where and how were you able to get a new part . You would think that part would have came with new gaskets . Good detective work in figuring out how that valve went on . I always try to take pictures when I take stuff apart . My dad used to try and fix things . I was the one that had to figure out how it all went back together . What a pain that was . 200 psi and a very quite compressor . Nice for a compressor that small .

If you couldn't find the new part and had no other options I would have tried filling in the 3rd hole with JB Weld or something. It likely would have worked but just taken longer to reach operating pressure.

Thanks for the upload! Just a suggestion when fixing things of this nature if you could list the model number in the notes.
Again thanks for the video and the time given to it.
Btw.. The phone call was wifey calling to give you some heat about the ring! Lol

One quick thing to note for others with the same issue. If you replace the reeds, and you’re still not able to get compression, take the piston out, and pound flat the gasket ring around the piston. I had the same issue with a rusted out reed like the video, but my real problem was the piston wasn’t fully sealed. I can’t seem to find replacement parts but pounding it flat seems to have worked for now.

The hard bit is ALWAYS getting inside the darn thing that's broken! Nice job. As you say, satisfying.

Great Video. My compressor only reaches about 40psi.
I'm gonna try this. Did you mention the part name and where to get it?
    Thank you

My compressor starts working and builds pressure up to 150psi but sometimes during work it will not start and won't keep tank charged. Sometimes it turns on only for a few seconds then goes quiet. Sometimes I hears something that it wants to start like air going somewhere through the pipe for about 2 second and then quiets and stays like that. Fails to keep up pressure in tank when I use it. Pressure goes low as 50psi but compressor doesn't start. Then I had to open drain valve to release remaining air pressure in the tank. Disconnect it from AC power for few minutes and it starts working again build up to 150psi again. I don't hear any air leaks. What could be wrong?

Great Video, but I think you forgot to tighten the nut on the side of the cylinder head.

Did you find the broken off valve flap? Also, do you find the hose plugs extremely stiff?

    Hi Steve -
First of all, great video. Always makes me happy when someone decides to fix something instead of throwing it out. I do have a question, though: are you ever going to do a tour of your boiler? I know you did a video or two of the Optimizer, but are ever going to do one on the Ultimizer you replaced it with? I'm a big fan of Portage and Main boilers. (We have an Ultimizer BL-3444 shaker grate unit.) Anyway, I was just curious. Cheers!
