I’m in the video 😎 1:55 observing Lygon Street from the window of my Nans flat. Rocking my favourite pink jumper, my small toy sheep in the sill 😊 The red trim around the windows was installed mid 80’s and I’d say the clip was taken between 87-89. Level 14, flat 124 @ 480 Lygon. Thanks for sharing the video, brought back some great memories.
The high rise Housing Commission flats were originally built in the 1960s as part of a "Slum Clearance" programme in the inner suburbs. However the former slum terrace houses surrounding the flats are now expensive homes for high income people while the commission flats have become the slums. Interesting how the situation reversed within a few decades of them being built.
I used to work security in the flats at Richmond. Take your life in your hands in that place. Syringes taped to the banister railings in stairwells, no torches allowed for security to use, once found a middle eastern male lynched in the u/ground car park with rope burns on his wrists & ankles, regular visits by drug dealers all the time, much akin to food delivery’s nowadays.
Wowee!!! Lived in Flem Flats Walk up 4 stories (gone now) in foront of 12 Holland Court for 17 years from 1968, cant say I have great memories. I know every inch incuding Kensington flats and North Melbourne Flats
All the walk ups are being demolished as we speak, with the aim to rebuild. Problem is there is nowhere to put the residents in the meantime. Public Housing is dying unfortunately
Interesting! I can see a few that definitely don't exist anymore: - Station St, Carlton (the low buildings) - Holland Ct, Flemington - Bangs St, Prahran
I see that Holland Court flats in Flemington is featured right at the start with the playground out the front. As a kid I played in that playground. My mother had a friend on the 17th floor and I stayed overnight there many times, those flats were absolutely scary. One night a female friend was raped in the lift. They are ghettos full of drugs and crime now.
When I was little I thought they were hospitals, I think because theres a high rise block next to Footscray Hospital and the Old Childens Hospital looked like them
another great one Gezza. Taking a bit of a risk there with the brake lockup in the cop car against the austin A 40. Asking to get the doors bashed in. Austin brakes were shit. I like how the footage of nearly all the vids you present focus on the carts as much as the actors.

Is that Stephen Cummings? (The Sports)
Yes.
Brilliant song from 1979
Odds on they will pulled down one day, and the residents shuffled further West.

My mother & me & my siblings lived in the Alfred st. Flats in Nth Melbourne in the early 80'-90'

I can see a few that definitely don't exist anymore:
- Station St, Carlton (the low buildings)
- Holland Ct, Flemington
- Bangs St, Prahran
At one stage I lived in the Station St flats and my first girlfriend lived in the Bang St flats.

For some reason, all of a sudden I got a great desire to score.
The Lennox street flats in North Richmond, forget it…
I wish I could.
@@mishakolomoicev9701 it’s an absolute disaster. I drive down the street almost every day, it’s beyond a joke now.
Yeah why's that ,?
Yeah you reckon
Nothing wrong with them, good accommodation for the poor
Now being called apartments for some reason.
what i find cool is how much people aren't somali or sudanese and now are filled to the brim with my kind
