Build Commander Decks That Tell A Story

- There's a lot of ways of playing Magic the Gathering and even more styles of decks that you can build, but I believe the success of commander comes from its unique ability to build decks with a theme. I encourage you to take a fresh look at your existing decks and maybe even build one from scratch with an eye specifically on the theme you are trying to convey. Try designing a deck that evokes a feeling or mode of play that tells a story. If you enjoy building decks with impact, pull up a chair, have a seat at the table, and let's talk games!

I love themes in card games and I especially love how they're implemented into archetypes in Japanese card games.
Magic usually isn't the game for that but due to the sheer amount of cards printed, the possibilities are basically limitless.
For example I love Dimir ninjas as a theme and try to build a ninja deck in whatever format I play (mostly pauper). I don't care whether it's good as long as the ninja theme is as prominent as possible while the deck remains somewhat playable.
I also love Izzet wizards and try to achieve the same but not as hard as with ninjas. I also feel like it's easier with wizards.
All I’m saying is magic is the only game where you can build a reasonably powerful deck with a theme like “Ladies Looking Left” and “Guys in chairs.”
Love the idea of theme decks. I don’t have a full theme through the deck at all, but I personally love Shadrix Silverquill because he reminds me of the Ahamkara dragons from Destiny 2 and their lore was some of my favorite from the game
Yeah I can see that. Sounds pretty cool. I wouldn't be surprised if someone's already got some Destiny 2 proxies out there if you really want to commit.
Great video! I love the story and lore in the game, but also the story in game play.
One of my favorite (and nastiest) decks is named "Biblically Accurate Angels," led by Gisela, the Broken Blade. This deck tells the story of Emrakul's creation of Brisela and the planewide destruction alongside the other two titans. Like Emrakul, the deck aims to win or decides to be done playing and then draw the game.
That's awesome. I don't know how I feel about intentionally drawing the game unless it's with something like Divine Intervention.
@TheFirstJake Divine Intervention is exactly how it is done. I also, of course, tell everyone what is in the deck before playing
Ah well there ya go. I tend to accidently lock the game up with Enchanted Evening/Ajani's Chosen loops which is a lot less interesting.
Ive been trying to make an adventure time deck like this!!! With the art on top of the cards and everything! Can i ask how you made the cards???
Mostly the cards were templated using Card Conjurer and then finished in Gimp/Photoshop. I then printed through the makeplayingcards website. Pretty painless process honestly, but it's a bit tedious.
