Man... that thing sounds good in your hands, Marty. With that sweet 80s Purple Rain thing happening. Lots of soul in that, and as always... you sound incredible. And of course, then you engage some dirt... and equally amazing. Killer guitar, and I absolutely LOVE what Firefly has been doing the last few years. Killer guitar company. You get a TON for the cash they ask.
It's true. He did use his H.S. Anderson Hohner Mad Cat when he recorded the tracks for purple rain. The pickguard design came from the H.S. Anderson Mad Cat line which were Japanese knock off telecasters. Then Hohner ( harmonica company ) bought the rights and so the H.S. Anderson Hohner Mad Cat is what it is today. Not many were made under the Hohner brand so it's hard to find an original and they are expensive to buy honestly because Prince made them popular. Glad firefly is doing these Marty. Sounded pretty dang good. ( Thanks, I won't be able to look at one again without thinking about Shelia E's panties... Which is not a bad thing. )
That’s a cool guitar. The Purple Rain and Voodoo Chile parts of the demo are awesome! I’ve got a Tele I’m going to be selling soon and this demo provided some inspiration for what to play in the video.. lol 👍🏼
Thanks for the video Marty! I wanted to let everyone know Alex will be on Terry Gros' Fresh Air show on NPR tomorrow at 3pm for an hour interview. I've set my clock, might not hear much from him going forward based on past experience. Today is Monday, 10/28
In about 1989 i wanted a guitar, my first one! At my local musicshop the genuine Hohner tele was 199 dutch guilders! Not knowing who Prince was. The guitar onley need fresh frets but in good condition. I do not know what its worth but never leaves me! Nice vid. Thanx for posting. 😎
Cool guitar, and very affordable. I do love the 'Tele' shape, and agree, a humbucker is needed. I've for a long time thought about buying a tele kit, and modding it with a Bucker style bridge humbucker, that can be split coil, and 70's blues style strat neck single coil. Which exact pick-ups, IDK, I keep changing that the more I see reviews and demo's...😁But, for me, I just love the Tele look, and I don't know why, I just do...
I've had Tele's in the past, then went to just humbuckers. I recently got a Tele again, and it took some getting used to. My advice is this - the tone knob is your friend, and get used to using it. Tele's can really bite. Also, try changing where you pick - it can make a world of difference. Throw pick thickness into the equation as well. I'm still sorting it all out, but I'm keeping this one because it's fun - like a recipe.
Firefly there putting bone nuts on all there guitars. The binding and wallnut stripe is nice. There quality is insane how much it costs. You can never get a fender for 199$ you add tuners, bridge and pickups your still under 400$ and I bet for sure that it has full size pots in it a a quality 3 way switch! And I just subscribed. I'm doing a frankinstrat build on my channel and a jem kit guitar build also. You might dig it!!?
I hear shades of Gilmour, Tom Campbell, and the intro to Finish What Ya Started in that one! Thanks for the demo! Rock On, Guitar Friends!!!!! 🤟🎸🇺🇲🥃🍻🍹🍺🧑🌾🏴☠️
The one you are playing has a different logo on headstock than the one shown in Aliexpress link - are they the same ? Sorry in advance if you covered thsi and I missed it ! Awesome playing - love your videos!
Different manufacturers make the madcat looking guitars…The one in the video is made by Firefly, the one in the link is made by someone else. Another words, the guitar Marty displays in the video is a different guitar than the one in the link Marty provided.
Am I the only one who thinks Leo Fender's original Telly had only one '59 pick up but a three way switch taken down from a broken TV witch only setup was full, half power *(of the not included 9V battery) with a resistor and off?! I don't know. Namastè.
