Gosaani Upaasanaa In Puri :
The word Gosani has been derived from the word Gosaamani.
The devotees get overwhelmed by having a glimpse of the Gosani idols of Puri.Gosani Puja is endemic to Puri and it began in the twelfth century.They are a beautiful representation of an Odiaani woman.The worship of the Gosanis is not copied from any other state or culture and it authentically belongs to Puri.
During Shaaradiya Durga Pujaa,different clay idols of Durga are made in Puri,but the idols of the Gosanis can be well identified by the structure and unique design of the idols.
All the idols have large eyes,eyebrows which extend till the ears,and proper facial features.They have muscular hands,protruding chest,and feet like those of a beautiful warrior lady.They wear all those ornaments which Odia women wore according to our culture.
The naming of the Gosanis are as per different legends,like Janhikhai,Kakudikhai,Baarabaati,Shunya Gosani,Panaa Priyaa,Gela Bai,Haadabayi,Chakrakot Gosani,Bhoga Jaagaa Gosani,Mahanteswari,etc.They are worshipped in different Saahis of Puri.
During Mahasaptami,Nabami and Dashami,Mahaaprasad is brought from Shrimandir and offered to the Gosanis.
