I have studied Russian every day for over 2 years, and I lived in Russia for 8 months. I have never for one second thought about stopping learning the language. I feel like if your goal is to speak fluently - what does it matter the political choices of the country's leader? Do you want to speak fluently or not? That is all that matters, and if so, then work on it every day and feel the joy of improving & learning)
If Russian language teachers on TH-cam are getting negative feedback about teaching Russian - it is probably just from a small, but annoying & loud minority of Russophobes who already hated Russia before this conflict even started. It should just be ignored.
That's what I think too, those people already either didn't care about Russia or had some antagonism or jealousy.
I completely agree.
I fully stand against the hate that Russian speakers and teachers are receiving, language does not equal politics.
At the same time, calling the ongoing genocide a "conflict" or "special operation" is, to put it mildly, an understatement. Let's not act like the Russian invasion on Ukraine did not change a thing, shall we? Attitudes towards Russia have changed, which is to some degree understandable.
@@tajheri39 I think it's fair to call it a conflict. But to call it a genocide is too extreme, it makes it sound as if Russia's goal is the systematic elimination of all Ukranian people, in order that they don't exist as a people.
It's okay if you are against what is happening, but sensationalizing it is just as bad as down-playing it.

And I am certain that there are thousands of more viewers who have not subscribed to this channel but still watch and benefit from it. I strongly feel that majority of the viewers of this channel will not be deterred by the current political situation and will keep learning. Max, you are so smart! I think this is my favourite video from any language learning creator ❤ you have pointed out exactly what languages can open us to - and it is in cultivating those gifts through our own curiosity and “explorater’s heart” that we can connect with people 🙋♂️✨
I have many friends in Ukraine and I have to admit that learning Russian sort of "felt wrong" during the first couple of weeks after the war started. But of course I know that this isn't rational.
I'm a government employee in Germany and right now my job is to deal with refugees from Ukraine. The majority of them do not speak English so I usually switch to Russian (I ask if it's ok). The reaction has always been very positive.
I couln't help them like I do today without my Russian language skills.
dear Johannes stopping to study Russian would be unhelpful for pacifying Europe. We have to show politicians that the people of this world are one!!!! We do not want any hard borders, separation and hatred. Let's all study Russian and build bridges!
How come that no one was contemplating about not learning Eng after everything the US did in Iraq, Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia, Laos, Serbia etc? Remember the lies on TV about those wars? Well, now they improved in their manipulation. Do you know that in the past few months Israel attacked Palestine and Syria with civilian deaths? Turkey also bombed Kurds in Syria. There are currently 27 ongoing conflicts worldwide and only one country gets the spotlight.

Will any major Russian news outlet truthfully report about it? No. Will any Russian journalist receive the most important media award of the country? Of course not.
Yes, the US as a superpower is using it's military as a tool in foreign policy, no I don't defend them in any way. But a democracy wages war differently than a fascist dictatorship.

Scrivo in italiano perché riesco ad esprimere meglio (per ora) il mio pensiero. Studio russo come hobby da circa 10 anni e da poco sono andata in pensione e avrò più tempo per farlo in maniera più completa. Credo che lo studio di una lingua sia l’apertura di una porta nel nostro meraviglioso mondo. Non nascondo che con gli eventi recenti sono stata un po’ disorientata, ma ora ho ripreso con più slancio e spero di continuare fino a quando riuscirò a scrivere e a parlare correttamente russo. Hi Max, I was actually living in Russia when the crisis began in the late February and I was forced to leave my appartment, internship and friends in less than 48h. It was a big trauma and this really affected my motivation to keep learning. I am slowly getting motivated to learn again and your videos help me in this way. Thanks for encouraging us, you're the best!
Sorry to hear this. Would like to hear more why you had to leave. What type of internship were you doing and what was the reason given, for you to leave?
@@rayray2615 I was working in Tomsk University since January on a Paleontology internship, working on bones from crocodiles, dinosaurs, lizard turtles etc to work on biostratigraphy. On the evening of Friday 25th, I receive an email and a phone call from my French university saying that given the situation, all student from universities who are in Russia need to immedatly leave (on Sunday 27th morning). They took most of the plane flight (Even though everything changed and I had to transit via Armenia, Austria, Germany and finally France) but I only had one day to prepare and leave everything. Sad that this happened exactly one week after receiving my long term visa and my appartment registration. Crazy how all changed in a couple of minutes, from just working as usual on a topic I am passionate about, to "I need to leave tomorrow".

@@arnaudrebillard957 Well life is a random and unpredictable phenomenon which sometimes follows no rules. Just bad timings in your case. I am sure it took a lot of efforts on your part to prepare for your internship including learing Russian language etc. But look on the other hand, thousands of people in both countries who were living a normal life before February 24th and now they are dead, due to none of their own fault. And they were much more unfortunate compared to you.

He is correct. I have been speaking Russian for 36 years. My wife is from Eastern Ukraine and knows both Russian and Ukrainian.
Russian is just a tool with no political ties. Unfortunately, now many people are treating it that way. Some people who have put a lot of time and effort into Russian are now throwing it away. Some teachers who taught Russian are now no longer teaching it.
It is sad. Without knowledge of this beautiful language, the misunderstandings and hatred will only grow worse. Let us pray people start acting more out of common sense than emotionalism.
I know eh and all those people treated the German language like just because the Germans were going around and...

oui c'est terrible. La France déporta 200 000 Alsaciens, écrasa dans le sang toute insoumission, lava la bouche des écoliers qui parlaient alsacien avec du savon et en bonus elle introduisit des colons en changeant les noms des rues et des villes pour tout franciser. Et il y a 1000 cas de communautés brisées par la France sur tous les continents. J'espère que la Russie ne fera pas le millième de ce que la France a fait aux Alsaciens. Amen, priez avec moi.

Excellent video...I have made friends with a wonderful Russian family who have moved to my country and live close to me....I love the language so iv'e started to learn... I now know the Cyrillic script and know about 250 words { Just the names of objects around the home, animals, colours, items of clothing etc } Ive bought a book called My first thousand words in Russian... When iv'e got the basics down, I'll look seriously at joining your membership program... Greetings 🙋🏻♂️

Your understanding and view on language is something I wish more people would hold. Too many people are quick to judge other peoples, languages, and cultures when their own understanding of these things are limited.

Я случайно начал изучать русский язык в гимназии, потом продолжал ещё полутора года в университете. Благодаря русскому языку, я встретил мою жену, узнал много из русской культуры, был в Петербурге, Москве, Киргизии, Киеве, Грузии и Литве где мы везде могли говорить по-русски. Один новый и очень разнообразный кулинарный мир открылся для меня. Но, может быть самое главное, что я встретил и познакомился со многими интересными и хорошими людьми из многих частей бывшего СССР и из стран, которые были связаны к СССР, например Кубы. Ничего от этого не произошло бы если бы я не учил русский язык.
Я помню чудное мгновенье:
Передо мной явилась ты,
Как мимолетное виденье,
Как гений чистой красоты.

Да язык принадлежит только лишь самому себе, даже если бывает, что ряд выражений прямо связан с определённой соц/полит/религ/.... группой, но конечно ряд выражений это далеко не язык!
Значит, на твой взгляд ещё существует Русская душа?

Почему спрашиваю? Потому своевременно много читала про Русскую душу (Мережковский, Бердяев, и т.д.), затем раскрыла в данных теориях несколько недостаток... и наконец убедилась, что наверно не как раз так!
Знание другого языка или других иностранных языков тебе позволяет преодолеть границы... С другой стороны, м.б. с мужем, или с родными людьми, как бывает, нет способа дойти до взаимопонимания.
Тут, разумеется, язык не причём! Это другое дело, о ВОЛЕ! И часто отказ ответиь, или молчание, тоже что-то ГОВОРЯТ! И прежде чем судить, лучше бы понимать почему так!

your best video max. like your wisdom and your neutrality towards politics. why do i learn russian? first, mother's mother came to america from belarus. she spoke russian and polish.. second, russian culture fascinates me with her very long history.. third, i just like the language and how it communicates in words and expression.. fourth, because the language is not easy to learn. but i will continue to fight my brain to learn as much as i can...thank you my friend.
Спасибо Макс . На самом деле, могу дабавлять что знание языка тоже может открыть пути для изучение другого языка . Я например , сейчас изучаю Украйнский язык и продолжаю с Русском. Но могу сказать что без знание Русского, мне было бы слишком трудно учиться Украйнский язык. Сейчас, изучение Украйнского намного легще . Я уверен что сербский язык тоже легко для вас . Огромное спасибо!
Сербский все же хуже понимаем, все же украинский и русский это восточно-славянские языки, а сербский - это уже южно-славянский. Но основные различия в украинском и русском это лексика, в украинском много заимствований из польского так понимаю

I am Serbian. Among Slavic languages, Serbian and Russian are the most different, but knowing word roots in Serbian helps in understanding Russian.
@@sonjak8265 , зная славянские корни, можно понять любой славянский язык. сначала будет трудно осознать, что корень слова многозначен и слегка меняет смыслы в пространстве и времени.
