In my headcanon, that engine is gordon. He hasn't been painted into the North Western Blue, yet. It's why he's so boastful in Gordon and Edward. He's just been painted blue, and he thinks that means he'll be the new express engine, and assumes as such.
in my HC, 87547 is Crovan's Original Number before he was purchased in 1925 was given NWR 34 and yes I do know that Crovan is T1E2H3's take on 87546 but since there might've been some loaned engines that went from 98460-98469, 87540-87549, 76620-76629, 65340-65349, the list goes on 3:53 I also did my own take on the unnamed blue engines that are not 98462 and 87546 The Blue Tank Engines First Blue Tank Engine from James The Red Engine Name: Wilson (Named after his designer Wilson Worsdell) Basis: NER Class O/LNER G5 Build Date: 1901 Arrived on Sodor: 1923 Left Sodor: 1933 Scrapped: 1956 Number: 98466 Second Blue Tank Engine from Toby The Tram Engine Name: Warren Basis: GER Class G69/LNER F6 Build Date: 1912 Arrived on Sodor: 1924 Left Sodor: 1954 Scrapped: 1958 Number: 98467
You know what is probably true, Dalby just didn't know the timeline and just drew Henry in the illustration. I mean he's face is exactly Henry's. He needed five bigger engines, three of which probably were pre determined by Awdry, so Dalby just decided to put the other big engine in the series as of then.
But, yet again, The Sad Story Of Henry in my universe takes place in 1923, because someone said the Three Railway Engines takes place in 1923. March 3rd of 1923 to specific. So, I guess I unknowingly fixed this mistake in this illustration by mixing up the years they happen in. Edward's Day Out in 1922 and The Sad Story Of Henry - 1923. But I also have Thomas arrive on Sodor in February of 1923, so I can explain his appearance in my remake....so yeah, Problem solving in its purest.
No dude, there was no Sodor when the book was illustrated, Awdry came up with all of the lore decades after TRRE was published. There was no timeline, the engines didn't even have any basis to them at the time, just inspiration, this is the reason why Percy doesn't have a basis, and why so many engines have so many differences from their basis.
Honestly, I've known this for awhile. When Dalby drew up the illustrations for the Three Railway Engines, there are many back ground engines, all not based on anything in particular, just added to fill in the scenes and make Sodor feel more like a real place with an actual railway. It should be noted that when Dalby drew the Green Engine in the sheds, he had Henry in mind. However, timeline wise it doesn't make sense for Henry to be there. A similar thing happened to the red engine that attempted to push Henry out the tunnel. It was based of James even though James wasn't supposed to be there. These characters are now left to the fans to develop. I like to think the Green Engine was a GWR Castle Class. It could add a new dynamic between her and Gordon, the LNER A1. That's just my AU of course.
I already agree with you, ScorchZane. It's clearly stated in the Railway Series Timeline that Edward's Day Out takes place between The Sad Story of Henry and Edward, Gordon & Henry, which means Edward's Day Out takes place while Henry is locked in the tunnel. So therefore, the green engine can't be Henry.
It could be Henry if the illustration occurred beforehand. Alfred is next to Gordon in the first one, and Crovan is in the next. You can tell because Alfred has inside cylinders whereas Crovan has two outside cylinders.
In my au: This Green Engine Is A Robinson Atlantic, and was sent away with the other loaned engines (And also, in my headcanon, he is triple the 98462 and 87546 in terms of being spitifuel and rude, as if he were an insufferable person but on the rails)
I have a headcanon that the green engine is a loaned engine called Henry (not the number 3 Henry) just toexplain the line "since 1922 there have been 2 henry" In the sodor its history and people book
With the tunnel supposed to be one bore according to the lore, Edward himself shouldn’t even be present in the Sad Story of Henry illustrations, as there was no tunnel for him to go through opposite to Henry’s. So I would scratch that out, however I see it likely Edward was indeed sidelined briefly for Henry, and finally for Gordon, and another engine leased from the Mainland to take Henry’s goods duties. Henry was meant for the express but that was given to Gordon. So with his green paint, it’s likely this green engine could’ve came from either the Great Central, Great Northern, North Eastern, or even the Glasgow & South Western Railway in Scotland! The latter was absorbed by the LMS in 1923, and had a nice selection of green 2-6-0’s and 4-6-0’s that could’ve been leased to the NWR on trial. I see the engine likely being either a Manson 4-6-0, or an GSWR Austrian Goods, as Awdry himself had a model of it on his layout, which he briefly used as the basis for James. You can explain the Austrian Good’s existence by having him as the green engine, despite the illustration showing him to be a inside-cylinder 4-6-0, just say the wheel configuration was another Dalby error, as he once did with James in “Paint Pots & Queens.”
In my canon I have three green engines. The 1st one was a G&SWR 403 class named Ozzy. A kind enough fellow, but one who met a brutal date when he was ordered to take a certain terrier to the scrapyard... The 2nd one is named Kenneth Mc.Harris, (Officially named Highland Chief) who is an LNER C11 Atlantic, and the green engine in the illustration. Cocky, smooth brained, and loud, he gained the nickname of Calliope. The 3rd engine is called Edo and he's, well, a one off Pacific from an off shore railway company who used old discarded GCR engine designs to make him. He's often described as a silent type who's willing to lend a buffer if necessary. But, it's best not to piss off the gingerly nicknamed "Frankenstein's steamer"...
In my HC, the green engine is an altered take on Alfred The B12. That altering being that he didn’t go insane and become an edgy murderer, he was just a bully like the other 4 engines. He was also scrapped in the 50’s or 60’s 👍
it probably isnt henry, we havent seen (or i havent) henry be rude (in the three railway engines), and, henry is still in the tunnel during edward's day out, so i conclude it *can't* be henry
I mean yeah pretty much, tho that doesn’t it can’t be Henry, since there is a chance it could be but maybe he’s just not meant to be there. It’s up to you on how you interpret this green engine.
I’ll admit, I personally prefer the idea of the three railway engines taking place in chronological order: 1. Edward’s Day Out 2. Edward & Gordon 3. Sad Story of Henry 4. Edward, Gordon, & Henry Because that’s just how I interpreted the story when I read the book. But I also can’t deny for a second that it makes more sense for the sad story of Henry to take place first. If Gordon was on the railway at the time, then why wouldn’t the controller have his strongest engine push out? Having Gordon come right after Henry’s protest makes the most sense. The green engine in Edwards day out could just be one of the loaned engines or a visiting engine from another railway. And I for one will not complain about having more railway series characters for us to imagine stories for.
Stopping to think about it, it really makes sense. The green engine that is illustrated in Edward's Day Out cannot be Henry, since in the timeline, Henry is still in the tunnel. But in fact the green engine has the same issues as 98462 and 87546, "unknown class". But up close the green engine looks like a 4-6-0 or 4-4-0 locomotive, like atlantic Robinsons C4 and B4 (or another one).
It COULD be Henry. Look at the engine next to Gordon, and you'll see he has no outside cylinders. In the next two he does. The first one was probably before the day Edward was let out, as Henry would've had to have just been bricked up, if that was why Edward was let out.
I think it's most likely that the "5 other engines" line (and by extension "the Green Engine") have long been retconned. I doubt Awdry had a whole timeline in mind, and Henry wasn't even meant to be on the same railway as Edward and Gordon at first. Plus, Awdry does say that the illustrations are inaccurate to the actual stories, so I think all of that rules out any and all possibility of there being another green engine.
I can assume both Middleton when asked to illustrate and Dalby to re-illustrate The Three Railway Engines just figured since Henry already existed he’d just be one of the big engines at the sheds in the first story along with Gordon making fun of Edward. Awdry of course didn’t have a set timeline for these stories yet and figured Henry stopping in the tunnel would be set the same year he decided for his arrival (1922) but didn’t realize it wasn’t correlating with when he decided the rest of the stories took place (1923) forgetting Henry was illustrated in Edward’s Day Out; that’s all I can think of really.
@@joshuaW5621 Wonder why he’d decide to have TSSOH take place before the other stories despite Henry being illustrated in the first story in his green livery, who knows if we’ll get more stuff discovered about the early background engines if Awdry ever decided to figure more out though it’s possible he never did as again, he didn’t really have his world of Sodor established yet and we really only got a clear sense of establishment by books 5 and 6
@@joshuaW5621 I suppose that could be a reasonable answer though there’s nothing confirming Gordon arrived because of Henry; Sir Topham Hatt I probably just found Gordon in 1923 because the LNER was no longer going to keep him around and needing a main express engine probably didn’t have to do with Henry solely and even if he was meant for the express STH I probably would’ve tried finding another express engine right in 1922 the year he arrived due to both his mechanical problems and being left in the tunnel rather than getting another one the next year
@@joshuaW5621 My thoughts on what happened with the early background engines: -Green Engine (Raven A2 #2400 City of Newcastle “Harry”): Came to help with passengers on the mainline from the LNER in 1923 but when Henry was let out of the tunnel that year he returned -1st Red Engine (Bridget, LNWR Claughton): Also came to help with mainline passengers in 1923 from the LMS (the red) but due to her size STH I felt she’d be too expensive to keep so in 1925 she left and James arrived in her place -2nd Red Engine (Winston “Eagle”): Leased from Furness Railway in 1915 and helped on mainline goods but when the bigger engines came he returned to what was now the LMS in 1923 All three are now in a railway museum in Vicarstown -87546 (Robert “Rob”) and 98462 (Howard “Howie”): Came on trial from LNER and were on goods because they weren’t trusted on passengers and they caused James’ wooden brake blocks to catch on fire with Edward and Henry finding out so they were sent away; they escaped scrap but rather than finding a home they just wander around Great Britain still screwing around and causing trouble -The Little Blue Tank Engine (Tom): Leased from Midland Railway in 1915 and stayed a while shunting at Tidmouth but after James arrived he was purchased in 1925 and also got extended side tanks like Thomas but then the Aluminum Works purchased him in 1926 which is why he disappeared; he still shunts there to this day
well in my headcanon, the green engine is a loaned engine as a gcr robinson 8f,was loaned to the nwr, and was sent back to his railway in 1925 till in 1965 he was scrapped
In my universe his name is Ron and he is a GNR H3 like 87546. He left in 1931 after his old line needed more engines He was preserved in 1966 and now resides on my own railway
I’m more partial to the theory 2 aspect. Even though it was stated numerous times that the green engine is supposed to be Henry, if it was a different engine, I would think it’d be something along the lines of a NER Raven A2. Checks out with the year, outside cylinders, etc.
To be fair, Elerick was just a character that was meant to be used for my canceled project and that was about 2020 or something like that. But in 2021, I realized that green engine is not Henry, this gave me an opportunity to use Elerick as a character properly and coincidentily, I'm reworking on the scripts of 'The Green Engine' Saga since I made the pilot very rushed. Anyways, it's nice to see someone brings him up in the video like this except for people using them like they know everything about this character.
In my personal head cannon every story takes place exactly how they’re depicted in the books. accept for flashbacks in stories such as gallant old engine or grandpuff etc.
I personally like to believe that this green engine is a GCR 8F (LNER B4) named Gerald. He was loaned from the GCR in 1923 to fill in for some of Henry’s other work, and left the railway in 1926 before Henry was repainted back to green. He was saved by a heritage railway after he was withdrawn, and upon hearing about him, Charles Topham Hatt decided to purchase him, where Gerald became the railway’s No. 20.
In my head canon, the green engine from Edward's Day Out is another loaned from the LNER like Alfred (who in my HC never wore the number 98462, instead was GER 1513), but unlike the rude B12, this engine was actually a real up standing fellow and I decided to give him a happy ending. Taking some creative liberties, the green engine in the background was no other than GCR 506, Butler Henderson, or Henderson for short. He was originally supposed to be on a ten year loan from 1923 to 1933 but when the Great Depression hit Britain, his loan was terminated early. After he was preserved in 1960, he semi-regularly visited Sodor on railtours until the early 1990s.
In my au, the gwr sent over some of their engines to Sodor and the tfc and the gwr agreed that when the time was right, they would come back. These engines were castles, countys, and the great bear (Henry in my au) Henry was purchased a little later on and the other loaned engines were sent home by ww2.
You don't even have to use UnluckyTug's video as evidence for this, it was clearly stated in the IoS book (which was written by Awdry) that TSSOH took place in '22, and EDO took place in '23. And yeah, Edward wasn't "retired" until after TSSOH, he was still working on the railway alongside Thomas and a few other engines (including W&S 1-4) when Henry was brought on. It's baffling how so many people disregard the IoS book, because pretty much all of the necessary lore information for the RWS can be found in this book. I absolutely agree with your second theory, well, part of it. We know there were five other engines in the shed in EDO, *but* the only ones we have any information about are Gordon, 98462 and 87546. And you're right, the illustrations aren't accurate, Awdry made this clear before. We don't even know if the "green" engine actually wore a green livery, he could've been a Midland Railway engine. I do think Dalby just used Henry as reference for this engine, but no, it's not actually Henry. P.S Unfortunately it is *EXTREMELY* difficult to get your hands on a physical copy of the IoS Book, but there exists PDFs of it online.
Is it wrong that I didn't even know that there was a green engine in the very 1st illustration of the very first book, let alone not knowing people were mistaking them for Henry?
Since we don't actually know when the illustration takes place, and the scene seems to be different in the next two illustrations, I just think this is depicting a time when there actually was 5 other engines in the shed like the narrator states here. And Henry, (while still in the tunnel) wasn't supposed to be there forever and was planned to come out eventually, therefore still making him one of The Fat Controller's Engines and still worthy of a mention in the book.
honestly the tvs series time line makes more sense then the rws most of the time since the sad story of henry factly takes place after edwards day out/edward and gordon.
In my personal opinion, I believe that green engine is a visiting engine from the North British Railway that brought a train to Sodor, spent a few weeks there, and then returned home later that month. After all, we don't ever see it again... Or do we...
In my headcannon, the green engine is a gnr h3 named Calliope. He's a little bit mean at times but not the brightest bulb in the box, in fact most of the engines wonder how he even knows how to pull trains.
My idea of the loaned engines is as follows. In 1922, the NWR was in danger of being absorbed into the LMS. The LNER, who were very much against this, daughter to prevent it by providing the railway with a series of locomotives on loan to help the railway out of its locomotive crisis. The engines loaned consisted of… 1. Molly (GER Claud Hamilton) 2. Alice (GNR class C1) 3. Alled Greedy (LNER class B4) 4. Alfred (LNER class B12)(Different from 98462) 5. Crovan (LNER class B16)(Different from 87546) 6. The Other Green Engine (LNER class B17) The Thugs that had built Henry and his brothers, the infamous 98462 & 87546, got wind of this and loaned their engines as well, even going as far as unloading their “White Elephant” design on the Fat Director. We all know how it went from there.
Theory 1 makes sense, but I do think that’s what Awdry meant by two Henrys in 1922. Henry’s Flying Kipper crash and rebuild at Crewe happened in 1935. I think that similarly to how some people have the same names which sparks confusion, this Shed Henry was actually named Henry. But he was nicknamed Henry II because Henry I (the future NWR No. 3) arrived on Sodor and was likely built first, and also to not confuse anyone. He was sent away likely because to not be confused with Henry I. This is a loose theory with some holes and contradictions like: “Henry I or II could’ve had their names changed like how Lord Harry’s name was changed to Patrick.” But I still believe this and hope to change it to make more sense.
I doubt that's what he meant by two Henrys because for all we know, just means Henry feels like a completely new engine due to being fixed at Crewe. And we know that because he stopped having the same troubles as he did before he became a Black 5
I think I know the truth about that green steam engine. If you go to the TTTE wiki and look on the page about “The Three Railway Engines” They bring up the possibility that the green engine IS Henry and that the illustration depicting him with the other engines takes place before the sad story of Henry. The story “Edward’s Day Out” claims that Edward had not been out for a long time. He hadn’t left the shed back when henry hadn’t been walled in the tunnel. Edward’s appearance in “The Sad Story Of Henry” isn’t canon because there was only one tunnel at that time and the illustration is inaccurate. So in conclusion “Edward’s Day Out” happens after “The Sad Story Of Henry” but the first illustration takes place before Henry stayed in the tunnel and Edward still hadn’t left the shed after it happened.
The tunnel that Henry was shut up in was actualy a gauntlet track, because there only used to be 1 tunnel, which makes all the illustrations with 2 tunnels during the sad story of Henry innacurate, includeing the one with edward.
I'd like to think that this engine was a prototype like henry and 87546 but was turned into a engine seen later on known as BCE as if henry was converted from a prototype to a stainer then what's stopping someone from converting a another prototype to a patriot class
In my AU it is Henry because #1 I already have too many loaned engines in my AU them being 98462 Alfred (died in 1923) 87546 Crovan Eagle Alled Gready and Geoffrey. #2 the three railway engines stories in my AU go like 3412 Note: Alfred 98462 Crovan and 87546 aren’t the same engines in my AU
To me, this mysterious would be a Highland Railway Castle class 4-6-0. If I were to pick which one, I would say HR No. 26 (soon to be LMS No. 14675) 'Taymouth Castle' as while built in 1919 and being the class leader, he has something of a superiority complex due to proving better than the HR's 4-4-0s, explaining his attitude towards Edward. As for what happened post-Sodor, he was scrapped in 1947. Reason I picked a Highland Railway engine was because because of the livery, while darker than the one shown in the illustration but how many companies painted running boards proper red over Indian Red? 'Taymouth Castle' would be repainted into LMS Crimson Lake upon being returned.
Personally, I think the engine is Henry and that particular illustration took place before Henry was in the tunnel. Having it be a different engine makes it more complex then necessary. Not to mention Alfred was next to Gordon in the same illustration, then in the next two it's Crovan.
I like to think awdry actually didn't want so many engines on the Island, because It wouldn't make sense for a railway wich had a locomotive Crisis only to have lots of them, even in the context of sir Charles being quite well know It still wouldn't make sense.... In my au the second green engine was actually One of the the Blue engines Who we have seen in the background.
@@ScorchZaneTrains I absolutely agree with your points. It's just unfortunate how later on that timeline did not match well with the originally established story order. Well, just another example why sticking to canon isn't quite perfect.
that could just be that LNER fanmade number 3 apple green engine called Alfred, or 98642 because back in sodors history Alfred was first painted green and not blue so that other blue engine could be 87546 since when 87546 was built his hybrid was designed as a prototype and his livery was built in blue, the regular NWR livery, meanwhile Alfred kept his Green Apple LNER livery as a B12 but then got his blue paint done after him doing a serious accident which has done enough and broke his chances, but then if you think about it Alfred may had cylinders when he was built but got an overhaul by that accident (which was him crashing into the sea). So they removed his cylinders and made him get a normal side rod overhaul built. It is a fact that engines DO stay awake in their overhaul built as we see the blue engine called "the overhauled engine" which was getting one in one of awdrys books, and then later in their future they had to use a substance to make the engine fall asleep even though they don't feel pain by getting an overhaul. And don't get me straight and say "there's two blue unnamed engines tho!!" well one of them is 87546 or crovan, we for sure don't know if the other one is Alfred since he didn't get his livery changed yet, that could be another blue engine that was sent on sodor from the mainland, or here's a theory, it could be that overhauled engine even tho they seemed nice and peaceful at first but probably had a backlash sad backstory where he used to bully other engines like Edward and Gordon, and that red engine that tried pulling Henry out the tunnel could've been Eagle or Johnson.
I feel like it's just an illustration thing like it always tends to be with Dalby. That's the simplest explanation. Henry, Gordon, and Edward are the three main characters of the book, and are all shown in the illustration along with Middleton's randoms. It'd be like saying the character in the first illustration of Thomas the Tank Engine isn't Thomas, and is some similar engine due to some random technicality. Using Awdry's logic, they're real events that happened, and the books are just books made as adaptations of those events, with some liberties. Certain stations apparently don't look as they're illustrated, so it's just as likely that *is* Henry and someone goofed, or changed something later.
Well henry would definitely not look like that with that type of look I mean i did watch the unlucky tug and it already made scene anyway and henry did not look like with his cylinders and side rods no connected and edward definitely retired from pulling express trains but how i made edward in that part is edward would save a passenger but being worn out and would never come back into the sunlight and would be back on the mainline and yeah like you said awdry didnt care how the stories were illustrated.
So, I've recently been trying to figure out who all the engines are in the first illustration of the Tree Railway Engines, and what classes they are... And I come to realize to not take that illustration too seriously. The main reason is the fact that I can figure out what class of steam engine is the one besides Gordon (on the left).. So I believe its best to take that illustration with a grain of salt...
I've got a Theory on what The EDO Green Engine's basis could be (aside from Alfred/98463) Name:...? Basis: NER Class M2/LNER D52 Number: 57894 Build Date: 1921 Arrived on Sodor: 1923 Left Sodor: 1925 Withdrawn: 1957 Scrapped: 1958 The NER Class M2s are larger versions of the earlier M1s, they look similar to the NER S2s but with a 4-4-0 Wheel Arrangement
It is just an illustration tho. Awdry himself had established that they are just that, and what is depicted in them aren’t strictly canon and are just artist interpretations.
In my headcanon all of them have some different basis’s from what most people say. 87546: instead of being experimental design he is an LNER V4 98462: Instead of a B12 he’s a B16 Alled Greedy: I couldn’t find an actual basis so I made him and experimental 4-6-2 The Green Engine (who I named Vincent): He’s an LNER A2
In my universe: After the Faileir of NWR No. 373 Sir Henry fowler, the Fat director had to find another Engine to help out as A Loaned Engine GCR Robbinson B5 Alled Greedy ( hes a Different Character, Not the First Red Engine) was Sent away, in 1924 he found a LBSCR K class, SR No. 377, he arrived in the Southern Railway's Olive Green, he Dind't have a Name, but the others Called him Calliope, he Loved to Jump in Conversation he wasn't invited to, because he always felt Left Out, Edward understood him and he and Thomas would always toke to him when he wanted, he Left the Railway in 1929 because of the Depression, he was Scrapped in the 60's Also Great Video
Let me guess could the other green engine be meant a replacement for Henry as well the number 3 becasue the fat director brick up Henry that he had to order another green engine that looks like him expect he didnt't have steam problems and then he decided to rename this other green engine as henry ll or henry 2.0 while henry l was still in the tunnel bricked up which explains the ios book had two henry's also henry l is the real henry that was bricked up in the tunnel during Edward's day out
Not a bad explanation. Though idk if I can work because Henry 2 is confirmed to be Henry in his rebuilt form . (Then again I don’t see why Awdry didn’t just go with this explanation instead
@ScorchZaneTrains i mean Henry l is both original and rebuilt so why didnt't awdry didnt't explain that the other green engine is henry ll and not the original henry
Imagine going to such lengths to pretend that an 82 year old book that's less than 500 words long should be read in a different order to explain an illustration by a man who didn't give a shit about this kids' book...
While i would have a magazine character i would make him, but he didn’t fit the style of any of them, so for me, he's just another loaned engine. Enough said
I'm gonna be straight honest, It's probably Henry, hear me out here. Sad Story of Henry does take place before Edward's Day Out, but then sometime later, Henry got out, and I assume it's before Edward's Day Out, but since this green engine has the similar basis to Henry's old shape, It's most likely Henry. If you think about it, It kinda makes sense.
I think the green engine in C. Reginald Dalby's illustrations IS Henry. However, in the original illustrations by William Middleton, the green engine is NOT Henry.
@@ScorchZaneTrains I respect ur headcannons, it's just... 199/Spammy being a class 22 sounds quite off, but a u-neak HeadCannon, in my headcannon, Diesel is a class 08, 199 is a Class 45, Stepney is just annoying towards me, and no HC's about Skarloey, except he became freinds with Neil for a long time.
This is one of those things in RWS lore that I prefer to call bulls**t on and ignore. On one hand, the idea that Edward was fit enough to run the express alongside Henry to make up for his steaming troubles until the Fat Director got a new green engine alongside the red engine, 87546, 98462, and Gordon to take over, relegating Edward to the sidelines until his Day Out is pretty cool. On the other hand, The Sad Story of Henry taking place before Edward's Day Out? Sorry Awdry, but nope. I hate that. That's one of the things I'm changing in my AU.
Even tho the green engine is BS or anonymous, I don’t think the red engine, 87546 and 98462 were the only loaned engines on the railway, I think there were more that weren’t fully disclosed on
Can you make a video about Timothy The Ghost Train on how he can or can't be and Brighton E1, suggest an alternate basis for him, and fix his story like you with 98462 in your "98462 and Alfred are not the same" video please. Please respond when you get this please.
I mean I could do an alternate basis’ for Timothy and go over problems with him being an E2 (I don’t see the problem being an E1 since it’s like with the E2s where he’s the prototype but got the extended side tanks) as for the 98462 video, I might redo where I don’t use the illustrations but facts given by Awdry since the illustrations by Dalby are not accurate to how Awdry envision them to be.
@@awesome-xk8vj I’m gonna make after I finish up the two Gordon videos since I have a lot to say in those videos in regards to Gordon. Timothy will probably come out after those two after I make and finish them.

In my headcanon, that engine is gordon. He hasn't been painted into the North Western Blue, yet. It's why he's so boastful in Gordon and Edward. He's just been painted blue, and he thinks that means he'll be the new express engine, and assumes as such.
I agree with this
in my HC, 87547 is Crovan's Original Number before he was purchased in 1925 was given NWR 34
and yes I do know that Crovan is T1E2H3's take on 87546 but since there might've been some loaned engines that went from 98460-98469, 87540-87549, 76620-76629, 65340-65349, the list goes on

I think it was just our old buddy Clarance thinking "Oh Henry's a rude big engine I'll put him here."
Dalby is infamous for not being the best
OR ITS ALFRE- *awdry awakens and shoots 9 times*
henry's still there in middleton's illustrations though
@beinzgoofensmirtz what if he also illustrated that green engine to not be henry aswell?
Him. Interesting. I also think it's at least a GWR engine. This is mostly because I think of them when I think of real-life green engines
Same
You can headcanon that if you want@HenryandGordonProductions
@HenryandGordonProductions I don't see his firebox.
@HenryandGordonProductionswho the hell is horace
It could be Henry if the illustration occurred beforehand. Alfred is next to Gordon in the first one, and Crovan is in the next. You can tell because Alfred has inside cylinders whereas Crovan has two outside cylinders.
In my au: This Green Engine Is A Robinson Atlantic, and was sent away with the other loaned engines
(And also, in my headcanon, he is triple the 98462 and 87546 in terms of being spitifuel and rude, as if he were an insufferable person but on the rails)
Sounds like Allied Greedy. (Where did that name even come from?)
It’s the same case as James in the three Railway engines, he’s not supposed to be there, but he’s there
Git that's not james, it's confirmed to be a different red engine
@@SnowconeajI'm pretty sure it was meant to be edward
it's possible
@@SnowconeajI think he was referring to how that engine was illustrated eerily similar to James before Awdry decided it was a different character.
He was there in TAB but in the RWS, it wasnt him
it probably isnt henry, we havent seen (or i havent) henry be rude (in the three railway engines), and, henry is still in the tunnel during edward's day out, so i conclude it *can't* be henry
Congrats man. We have created a new character for the thomas fanbase to enjoy
I mean yeah pretty much, tho that doesn’t it can’t be Henry, since there is a chance it could be but maybe he’s just not meant to be there. It’s up to you on how you interpret this green engine.
I’ll admit, I personally prefer the idea of the three railway engines taking place in chronological order:
1. Edward’s Day Out
2. Edward & Gordon
3. Sad Story of Henry
4. Edward, Gordon, & Henry
Because that’s just how I interpreted the story when I read the book.
Maybe, it was the Atlantic Topham wanted.
I think this was years before Awdry figured out the timeline of the Railway Series, so I guess he just retconned that engine being Henry later on.
@@joshuaW5621 Wonder why he’d decide to have TSSOH take place before the other stories despite Henry being illustrated in the first story in his green livery, who knows if we’ll get more stuff discovered about the early background engines if Awdry ever decided to figure more out though it’s possible he never did as again, he didn’t really have his world of Sodor established yet and we really only got a clear sense of establishment by books 5 and 6
@@jaanshersaeed4541 by my guess, perhaps it might have been to explain that Henry’s absence led to Gordon being brought onto the railway?
@@joshuaW5621 I suppose that could be a reasonable answer though there’s nothing confirming Gordon arrived because of Henry; Sir Topham Hatt I probably just found Gordon in 1923 because the LNER was no longer going to keep him around and needing a main express engine probably didn’t have to do with Henry solely and even if he was meant for the express STH I probably would’ve tried finding another express engine right in 1922 the year he arrived due to both his mechanical problems and being left in the tunnel rather than getting another one the next year
@@joshuaW5621
My thoughts on what happened with the early background engines:
-Green Engine (Raven A2 #2400 City of Newcastle “Harry”): Came to help with passengers on the mainline from the LNER in 1923 but when Henry was let out of the tunnel that year he returned
-1st Red Engine (Bridget, LNWR Claughton): Also came to help with mainline passengers in 1923 from the LMS (the red) but due to her size STH I felt she’d be too expensive to keep so in 1925 she left and James arrived in her place
-2nd Red Engine (Winston “Eagle”): Leased from Furness Railway in 1915 and helped on mainline goods but when the bigger engines came he returned to what was now the LMS in 1923
All three are now in a railway museum in Vicarstown
-87546 (Robert “Rob”) and 98462 (Howard “Howie”): Came on trial from LNER and were on goods because they weren’t trusted on passengers and they caused James’ wooden brake blocks to catch on fire with Edward and Henry finding out so they were sent away; they escaped scrap but rather than finding a home they just wander around Great Britain still screwing around and causing trouble
-The Little Blue Tank Engine (Tom): Leased from Midland Railway in 1915 and stayed a while shunting at Tidmouth but after James arrived he was purchased in 1925 and also got extended side tanks like Thomas but then the Aluminum Works purchased him in 1926 which is why he disappeared; he still shunts there to this day
It may be a random loaned engine but Dalby illustrated it like henry as he didn't care for consistency
well in my headcanon, the green engine is a loaned engine as a gcr robinson 8f,was loaned to the nwr, and was sent back to his railway in 1925 till in 1965 he was scrapped
In my universe his name is Ron and he is a GNR H3 like 87546. He left in 1931 after his old line needed more engines
He was preserved in 1966 and now resides on my own railway
Honestly the segment introductions were inspired by your project and I wish you luck with it despite my views on it.
@@BANANAsuit231_eggs honestly that makes sense, given Topham’s connection to the GWR
P.S
Unfortunately it is *EXTREMELY* difficult to get your hands on a physical copy of the IoS Book, but there exists PDFs of it online.

I remember my dad sent me a meme about a person realising that the green engine in Edward's day out wasn't Henry
honestly the tvs series time line makes more sense then the rws most of the time since the sad story of henry factly takes place after edwards day out/edward and gordon.
In my personal opinion, I believe that green engine is a visiting engine from the North British Railway that brought a train to Sodor, spent a few weeks there, and then returned home later that month.
After all, we don't ever see it again... Or do we...
I belive that the green engine could of been inspired to be Alfred

I like to think this isn’t Henry but just another loaned engine who was sent away for being rude
@@Mattblox8080 honestly I find this more likely the case
My idea of the loaned engines is as follows.
In 1922, the NWR was in danger of being absorbed into the LMS. The LNER, who were very much against this, daughter to prevent it by providing the railway with a series of locomotives on loan to help the railway out of its locomotive crisis. The engines loaned consisted of…
1. Molly (GER Claud Hamilton)
2. Alice (GNR class C1)
3. Alled Greedy (LNER class B4)
4. Alfred (LNER class B12)(Different from 98462)
5. Crovan (LNER class B16)(Different from 87546)
6. The Other Green Engine (LNER class B17)
The Thugs that had built Henry and his brothers, the infamous 98462 & 87546, got wind of this and loaned their engines as well, even going as far as unloading their “White Elephant” design on the Fat Director. We all know how it went from there.
I honestly think the the green engine at the far left was on loan from early 1922 to late 1923 and went back to his railway cause he was on loan.
I knew I wasn’t the only one who believes this.
I think he could be some other loaned engine helping out on the railway until his time ran out
I think I know the truth about that green steam engine.
In my headcanon, this green engine is actually an LNER Raven A2 and his NER/LNER number is 2399, and his name is Litchford Hall.

#1 I already have too many loaned engines in my AU them being 98462 Alfred (died in 1923) 87546 Crovan Eagle Alled Gready and Geoffrey.
#2 the three railway engines stories in my AU go like 3412
Note: Alfred 98462 Crovan and 87546 aren’t the same engines in my AU

However only thing is Alfred wasn’t a RWS character, he was an alternate interpretation by user SK123
But the green engine doesn't have a flat running board
Perhaps it’s a GWR Saint class.
4-6-0? Check.
Green? Check.
Dipped Running Board? Check.
I can't wait for this
Well henry would definitely not look like that with that type of look I mean i did watch the unlucky tug and it already made scene anyway and henry did not look like with his cylinders and side rods no connected and edward definitely retired from pulling express trains but how i made edward in that part is edward would save a passenger but being worn out and would never come back into the sunlight and would be back on the mainline and yeah like you said awdry didnt care how the stories were illustrated.

Alled Greedy: I couldn’t find an actual basis so I made him and experimental 4-6-2
The Green Engine (who I named Vincent): He’s an LNER A2
wouldn’t that mean 87546 arrived in the 40s on loan since the V4s weren’t built until 1941
Oh I must’ve read the year wrong now I gotta rethink the whole thing😭
I figured out why I got it wrong I read the serial number that said 1919-1920 and thought that was the year
In my universe:
After the Faileir of NWR No. 377, he arrived in the Southern Railway's Olive Green, he Dind't have a Name, but the others Called him Calliope, he Loved to Jump in Conversation he wasn't invited to, because he always felt Left Out, Edward understood him and he and Thomas would always toke to him when he wanted, he Left the Railway in 1929 because of the Depression, he was Scrapped in the 60's
Also Great Video
love the work keep it up
👍🏼
If you are in the case with the tab
@@chavopatyfanstudios2005 what
My ideal take on the Other Green Engine is an LBSCR K Class named Angeles
How's That?
I like this video and I wanted to suggest a third theory that this is one of those engines to not really appear that awdry said worked on sodor.
I think a good basis for that green engine is a cr 14643 pickersgrill cr/lms class 60
No more 812 for my green engine in my au🎉
When this engine arrived
No false copyright claim FUGA, GOT IT😡
I think the green engine in C. Reginald Dalby's illustrations IS Henry. However, in the original illustrations by William Middleton, the green engine is NOT Henry.
Inaccurate
@@chavopatyfanstudios2005 Exactly!
After watching this video I think that it was Alfred the b12
I think Alfred and 98462 were in the same universe
Sorchzane, any headcannons about engines like... Well...
Boco
Diesel
D199
Stepney
Skarloay
He already did boco
I mean Stepney is just a Visitor nothing special.
Diesel is a O9
SpanCam is a Class 22 BabyWarShip
And Skarloey is the same as his RWS counterpart
Even tho the green engine is BS or anonymous, I don’t think the red engine, 87546 and 98462 were the only loaned engines on the railway, I think there were more that weren’t fully disclosed on
@@ScorchZaneTrains According to Awdry there were like some 80-odd engines on the NWR around that time. Guarantee the majority of them were all loaned.
@@Kaidhicksii really that many? (I mean makes sense, the railway was undergoing a locomotive crisis)
I know that the green engine is not Henry or Alfred, he looked too much like an A1 (and i mean a Gresley A1)
Can you make a video about Timothy The Ghost Train on how he can or can't be and Brighton E1, suggest an alternate basis for him, and fix his story like you with 98462 in your "98462 and Alfred are not the same" video please.
@@ScorchZaneTrains So you'll do the Timothy video but won't go over ways to fix his story?
@@awesome-xk8vj his story I go over in another video right now I have two Gordon videos I wanna work on and talk about
@@ScorchZaneTrains Wait so you already made it to Timothy video or are you going to make a Timothy video?
@@awesome-xk8vj I’m gonna make after I finish up the two Gordon videos since I have a lot to say in those videos in regards to Gordon. Timothy will probably come out after those two after I make and finish them.
Hey scorch i have theory maybe this green engine could be Henry l while Henry is Henry ll as the ios book
@@chavopatyfanstudios2005 well it’s just a theory
A train theory-
Ok seriously I get what your saying, but I personally don’t think this is Henry due to the sad story of Henry taking place before Edward’s day out
@ScorchZaneTrains yeah but do you think could they share the same name
Maybe, but then again maybe not
@@ScorchZaneTrains after the original Henry got free from the tunnel he got a rivaly with the other Henry who think its an imposter bootleg and a replacement for him so much that the two henry's started to hate at each other having a rivaly
Why they pretend it dosen't exist
Bro 2 thery in one day
Does anyone know why the hearts on comments disappeared?
Same here
I think that that green engine is alfred
Alfred is a fan creation. He came out 64 years after Edward's Day out in Sodor Dark Times. Upon closer inspection that Green Engine might be an LNER A1/A3
Hello ScorchZane, How are you? Loved this analysis video, and a lot of your videos are pretty great. I assume you've already checked out some of my videos from your past comments on my videos, and i was wondering if you could ever do a review/analysis on my series/channel for a future video as im very curious on what people think of my content and if you do ever do a video like that i could if you want give you some information on how and why i started a series, what direction im planning to take it and a insight about future episodes and whatnot, again this is just an idea i had you don't need to do it i just thought it would be a good video idea
Hmmmm I’ll think about it
I agreed with you
I’m also Gresley ng friend
