Oh this makes me miss Clapham so much! I worked there for the past two years before moving back home and spent a lot of time in these spots. Brickwood has the BEST coffee!
My husband and I stayed in this neighborhood for a few nights in January of this year. We were visiting from San Francisco so we didn't know what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised. Can't wait to make it back out there and when we do we'll definitely be staying in Clapham again for sure.
Born and brought up in Clapham in the 70's, 80's and 90s. The cinema, on Venn Street, used to be a snooker hall which we used to go to in the 80s and 90s. Clapham old town still has the same feel, but Clapham, like most places, has changed so much. My parents still live on Rodenhurst Road so I come back quite a bit to vist. Glad you like Clapham. I still think of it as home.
I lived in Clapham during the late 50's and early 60's on Crescent lane. We had friends from school on Rodenhurst road . We used to sail our model yachts on the pond in Clapham Cmmons. Went back in 2019 - the houses have not changed much but High street is now very lively with tons of bars and restaurants.
Ejaz, I remember an large old building near the corner of Clarence ave and Park Hill that was a teacher training college or something like that. It was across from Genbrook primary. When i retraced my steps in 2019 noticed there are two large apartment towers there. Do you know when that happened ?

Opposite Glenbrook on Claernce Avenue towards Park Hill, there are the 3 large tower blocks (built in the late 60's and finished in around 1970: boroughphotos.org/lambeth/clarence-avenue-clapham-park/ They are still there. As kids we used to play on the helter skelter there. it's directly behind my mum and dads house on Rodenhurst Road. Directly opposite Glenbrook, there used to be a nursing home. That was sold off and new apartment block put up. This seems to be the trend from housing associations / developers. Buy up where they can and then put up apartments with a mix of private and social housing. It's very conegsted there now like most of inner London.

Even if a tourist can't get a library card there, (I could when I lived/worked at WAGGGS hostel Pax Lodge), it's still good to know where the libraries are when traveling, if someone needs some wi-fi or a quiet place to rest on a busy trip (in normal times). Very often it's a better place to go to get something printed, to find a cheap cup of coffee/tea, or they can be good for getting directions from a nice librarian when you're lost.

I lived in Clapham for many years and totally hated the place , I eventually left England and moved to Ottawa Canada, what a worse shithole than Clapham, shootings muggings and stabbings in the horrible Overbrook Ottawa Ontario neighbourhood I live in currently, moving soon to Gatineau Quebec, who knows what that is going to be like. I remember that saying the grass is not always greener on the other side, well its true. I actually now miss Clapham.

December 2010 went to Clapham Common and it had had a proper covering of snow. Pretty magical. Doubt we'll see that this year :(
