"Eve of Seduction" or "Evolution (The Grand Design)" two of my favorites.

Symphony X is my favourite band and "The Odyssey" my favourite song. It's 24 minutes long but definetly worth the time
If you want a shorter, great one I would suggest "Fallen"

Symphony X is among the best. I'm a stickler for their older stuff when they were less heavy and more prog. Check out "Smoke and Mirrors" from their Twilight in Olympus album.

Ahh they cut out half the guitar/keyboard solo in the video. Great reaction I would definitely check out the studio version to get that full solo. My favourite “accessible” song by Symphony X is a song called Egypt it’s super sick.

Michael Romeo (guitarist) is one of the most underrated metal guitarists. For more of his shredding, check out one of their older songs "Sea of Lies" for one of his best solos. Really can't go wrong with their stuff. Domination is another great track.
Speaking of underrated guitarists, check out Thank You Scientist. Not prog metal, more prog rock/fusion but the dude shreds. Check out "My Famed Disappearing Act" by them.

Michael Romeo on guitar and orchestral arrangements and Russel Allen on vocals... both ooze jaw-dropping talent. I'm not a big fan of this later "HEAVY" kick they go into though. Their masterpiece and a song I feel surpasses just about every other Prog Rock band's "epic" song title... including Rush's "2112", is their 2002's "The Odyssey" - th-cam.com/video/MaN3pwBsRf8/w-d-xo.html

Symphony X have no bad albums. Some stand out more than others, but every album is worth a listen. My favorite song is Communion and the Oracle, but for a reaction I would recommend Evolution, Fallen or A Fool's Paradise. All from my favorite album.

MORE Symphony X! Any song, any album. You should do some older stuff(before The Oddyssey album), with Kim. Some really cool vocal stuff

Russell Allen (Symphony X singer) teamed up with Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) and formed a band Adrenaline Mob. Bro you have to check them out, very heavy, groovy. Undaunted is a great song by them. AS far as Symphony X, every song is great, try Serpents kiss, great riffs.

Used to see Michael Romeo play at clubs in New Jersey (where they are from), back in the 80's. Even back then, he was something special on guitar! I used to tell my friends that "this guy is going to make it big one day, and be considered a guitar hero."

Accolade 1 and 2 are the classiest stuff by this neoclassical prog-power outfit. But you won't go wrong with the Odyssey suite either!

Symphony X's magnum opus is The Odyssey. It's like 24+ minutes long. It is a prog masterpiece. Before that, I'd recommend listening to Serpent's Kiss, Inferno (Unleash the Fire), and Communion and the Oracle just to get a taste of their other stuff first.

Symphony X with its technicality is probably the best band around. I would probably say to go for wicked or the divine wings of tragedy id you're into cool riffs. Also the band Circus Maximus, only the first two albums, but they are also monsters...

Russell Allen and Michael Romeo are the best! I love every single record Symphony X has produced and created! I recommend "Swan Song" and "Legend" from the album Underworld. Also, I recommend anything off of the album The Odyssey. Especially, if you like Greek Mythology.

Since it’s Romeo’s technique and style you’re focusing on, you absolutely must listen to him on the Aryeon album (with Allen providing a lot of the vocals) Flight of the Migrator.
th-cam.com/video/cHcAs-dsJDQ/w-d-xo.html - listen in its entirety, but the section you will want to pay the closest attention to starts at around the 5 minute mark.

Try checking out a bit of a newer Rush song, Leave That Thing Alone! Especially the live version from their Time Machine 2011 tour.
It's an instrumental from the '90s, and Geddy really has an awesome bass solo, and the song is one of my favorites from that era of the band.

Their songs tend to bleed into each other, so fade outs on the singles are just a side affect. On their albums the songs will often just transition into the next, especially in their concept albums.

People be hatin' on fadeouts, but I actually like them, and wish I'd see them more often. Plenty of songs have crappy endings that just seem tacked on, like "tremolo strum on the dominant for like, 4 bars, and then strum on the tonic for 4 bars...let the tonic ring out for a couple bars, and play the tonic again in a staccato manner, either once, or if you want to mix it up, 3 times in quick succession" (a rock 'n roll classic)...BORING. With a fadeout, you can keep playing the sweet-ass riff, and it sounds great. I don't know why fadeouts get such a bad rap...the temptation to write a decent end to a song has led to many artists falling prey to the "introduce a cool musical idea that is entirely NEW to the song, just as an ending" solution to this problem...which is dumb. Repetition legitimizes...ending a song with a new idea, played just once, is the epitome of bad writing. And changing a great song to include that idea earlier on, so that it's not new at the ending is only a good idea if it makes the ENTIRE song better...if it just enables you to have a better ending, better go with the fadeout.
Here Symphony X has an incredible outro, which they repeat many times...it's a new idea to the song, but because it goes on for a bit, it works (and plus, it's just SO juicy, it just fills a need that metalheads have...the need to bang their heads to the beat). And they choose to fade out rather than go with a cliche ending, or whatever. Smart choice. I think live, they do tack on a bit of a cliche ending (repeating the tonic note a bunch of times, doing a dive bomb, and strumming the tonic again, syncing an end with the drums...it's been awhile since I've seen them perform, but I HAVE seen this song live, and I do recall something like that happening), but that's fine...few have dared to try the live fadeout, and nobody has ever survived it.

This is a great song... But this video cuts a good chunk of it.
