I have that same model Spartan Astor, it is a pretty good no-nonsense [iece (kinda like a fancier Ontario Rat1).
I only really bought it to try a Spartan, also had never tried CTS-XHP steel before, it is far from the first-thing I grab when needing a tool but it has stuck-around in the collection for a couple of years now.
Don't really have many gents knives, except my Giantmouse Aca Iona and Spyderco Centofante 3, although I guess an Alox SAK could be considered in this category as well and I do have a couple of those :)

I'm mot a CF laminate fan either.. you're right it looks cheap. It will fall shut if you use it.. that's on washers not bearings so it takes a little bit. I prefer washers over bearing big time!! Much better for dirt and stability.
