I try oil paintings (bodies, faces and more abstract/colorful stuff) for a year, and I’m still very much struggling - but Chris, I always come back to your videos and then the next day I try something. It’s a fun process (although I hope that at some point it just „works“ 😉)
Always helpful! Thank you! I showed your Patreon page to my mom recently. She is retiring at the end of this year and plans to paint more, as well as becoming a Patron with you. She really enjoys your teaching style from your TH-cam channel.
Love your videos. Do you have a video on Dos and donts of mixing on a palette to keep it more organised? I keep finding my palettes super messy and Im getting lost. Or I've got half the palette with one colour because I'm spreading it too far. Would love to see if theres any palette management techniques.
Hi Chris! And how about keeping a sponge brush handy to remove excess paint? You see the place you want to work on, you already know for sure that this color will not remain the same, why fight with the already lying paint, if you can brush off excess with a light movement of a sponge brush and then apply a smear on the cleaned place with fresh paint?
Hey I have a question I'm now to oil painting and from where I live Windsor newton is quite expensive so I was wondering which is an alternative brand that is affordable
Try Utrecht or Gamblin 1980…this are both student grade oils and work fine. The main difference you’ll notice with cheaper paint is that colors will be a little duller because of the filler. You can just add a layer of oil when the painting is dry (called oiling out) to bring back the color
