Why staff over scythe?
For non boss chapter I use Scythe due to its headshot ability. For boss chapters, I use staff, with diagonal arrow all arrows will merge into one dealing x3 damage.

Yes that also works too if you have high resistance. So pick all the arrows you can eg side or diag and attack in front of boss
