The immortal Heian-period supernatural mystery novels by Baku Yumemakura have been adapted into an anime series for the first time.
The extraordinary onmyoji Abe Seimei and his partner Minamoto Hiromasa solve cases involving humans and demons. Based on the setting of the original novels and including all-new tales, this series tells a never-before-seen story of Seimei.
STORY
Yearning, obsession, burning desire…
When people’s uncontrollable emotions begin to overflow, that is when they become demons.
In prosperous ancient Kyoto, court musician Minamoto Hiromasa, grandson of Emperor Daigo, visits the residence of the official onmyoji - the yin-yang diviners - in hopes of unraveling the mysteries of the demons that disturb the city. While there, he is introduced to a man perfectly suited for untangling these enigmas: the great onmyoji Abe Seimei, a man cloaked in an otherworldly aura. Hiromasa is vexed by Seimei’s lack of interest in the mundane world and his reluctance to help, but the two of them confront the demons at the cause of the incidents. They eventually find the onmyoji Ashiya Doman, who lurks in the shadows of the demons. Seimei and Hiromasa are joined by Hiromasa’s flute teacher Imperial Prince Atsumi, the emperor’s onmyoji Kamo Yasunori, and Lady Tsuyuko, who comes to accompany them as a result of a particular case. As their emotions intertwine like threads, will Seimei and Hiromasa be able to restore peace to the capital?
The ordeal of these mismatched friends destined to share the same fate begins now.

Abe no Seimei(Onmyoji) whose story has been made into movies and manga, is a real person who lived during the mid-Heian period. He studied astronomy for a long time at Onmyo-ryo, and at the age of 52 became a doctor of astronomy, the current professor, and later worked as an onmyoji. He served six generations of emperors, from Emperor Suzaku to Emperor Ichijo, and divined the causes of illness and performed spells to ward off evil spirits.

For people not aware, this is based on the Japanese novels Onmyoji. There is mobile games made by Netease but those are also loosely based on the novels

An onmyōji is any practitioner of onmyōdō, the most famous of whom was Abe no Seimei (a historical figure). The novel series this is based on is also associated with multiple manga, two Japanese live-action films, the mobile game, and a Chinese live-action film (based on the mobile game, and which Netflix also has the streaming rights to).
One’s an immortal Onmyoji. The other’s a musician of the shogunate. Together - They fight crime!

There isn't a lot of anime that depicts the heian period wish there was more as it's the height of the yokai, demon's, ghost and religion of Japan folklore.

Born : Feb 21, 921 A.D. ~ Died: Oct 31, 1005( aged 84) He wa a son of the high-level government official 安倍益材(Abe no Masuki). Seimei was a very famous 陰陽師(Onmyoji : yinyang master, also divine master) in 平安時代 (the Heian period). He was a legend in his own time.
I’ve just finished watching it. As a person who loves mystery and myth. This is a 10 for me. It has the perfect amount of drama throughout the story, everything in the story is reasonable to me. Basically I recommend y’all who see my comment to watch it.

Abe no Seimei voice sounds like the Seimei on the game Onmyoji voiced by Noriaki Sugiyama,
I played the game and I love it so far.
i also thought they sound similar. but their character design is not really the same. i thought it was an entirely different character at 1st.

it won't. Netease didn't create Onmyoji. Onmyoji is a series of novels written by Japanese author Baku Yumemakura. Netease Onmyoji games are based on the novels but loosely based on them, what I mean with this is, the characters are from there but they changed the story a quite a bit

They announced a anime trailer about the game in 2019 but there are no more info about it. They also announced a trailer about a MMORPG called Onmyoji: The World, but after the trailer there's no more info aswell.

I literally had no idea about this anime or the story before I read the comments, but before even reading them, I was convinced that I'll watch this anime as this is the first anime that struck me as interesting after like 1 year, no jokes. TK opening made my wish even stronger.

Used to play that game back in 2018-1019 I think. It was also popular among my Chinese friends. One of my friends were looking into new animes and said "Onmyoji". I remember the name instantly. Its been so long. I didn't continue the game during college. But glad they made an anime

This looks spectacular! I watched the two Japanese movies years ago and really enjoyed them; I even watched the loose Chinese adaptations. Can't wait to see this adaptation, especially since I really like the mythic rendition of Abe no Seimei.

no lol, the concept of onmyoji originated from one of the 3 chinese folk religions called "Taoism". the Yin-Yang itself is literally chinese
This reminds me a lot about a movie with the same title ("Onmyoji" in 2001). So of course I will watch it just to see the duo Seimei-Hiro's antics 🤣.
I actually saw English subtitled versions of the 2 live action movies years ago which came out in 2001 and 2003. Having the same actor portraying Abe no Seimei in both. Loved them both. Also, I somehow got hold of 2 volumes of the manga versions still in their original Japanese language. Artwork is really nice.

Heian period shows are always great
I really hope there is a dub. I'm sight impaired and simply can't see well enough to do a whole show in subs. My eyes get tired after only about 5mins. I used to only watch subs but have come appreciate dubs as they still let me enjoy anime as my eyes get worse
Kekkaishi is another interesting Japanese animation/story in this demon-ghost hunting genre.
Nice to see the story of the grandfather of Abe no Masahiro from Shōnen Onmyōji. Now I will have to watch this series and rewatch Shonen Onmyoji.

Almost thought this was a remake of anime Shounen Onmyouji which is about Seimei's grandson. I really enjoyed that series when it first came out. Too bad, there is no sequel.

It's not about that series :( It's about the originals created by Baku Yumemakura. They announced a anime trailer about the game in 2019 but there is no more news since then.

Just finished it back in November and I highly recommend it for those who love far eastern period dramas and anime.

it is based on a novel Japanese in a period in which abe no seime had not yet evoked shikigami... if you like the genre I also recommend shounen onmyouji an anime (very good) from a few years ago set years after the events of this new anime, and narrates the story of abe no seime's nephew whom he chose as his successor, but whose shinki ability he had blocked to protect him as a child...

There is a Chinese E-Sports drama as well that revolves around the professional e-sports players of Onmyoji. The drama is titled "Falling Into Your Smile", it's a nice drama about an Onmyoji team's struggle to win the championship..
The only onmyoji series I know is the phone game of the same title or Onmyoji Arena. I thought that this series would be based on that, but it's clear that I was wrong. Not sure what to make of this series, but I will wait and see more when the release date gets closer.
Well you're neither wrong or right. There is currently 3 Onmyoji games called Onmyoji, Onmyoji Arena, and Onmyoji Card game. All these games are loosely based on the Onmyoji novels written by Japanese author Baku Yumemakura, however the games contain the characters of the novels but change the story.
This is based on the original novels (which personally have better story) in which the Netease Games are based on. So it's the Onmyoji franchise but it's the original one, in which Netease games take from

This is not the NetEase game adaptation, (almost) entirely different universe. The NetEase games DID adapt the same source material though, so we might see some of them - I know for a fact that a demon similar to Mushishi is one of Seimei's Shikigamis. Also, expect more OwO moments with Seimei and Hiro here >:3
For your info guys, there’s also anime or series of SHOUNEN OMNYOUJI 24 episodes. That anime is really good too. Another one anime good to watch too is TOKYO RAVENS. This anime is too op and so many amazing techniques just like SHOUNEN OHMYOUJI. Thank me later guys.

Não é o do jogo, infelizmente. Eles lançaram um trailer de anime sobre o jogo em 2019 mas nunca mais deram informações. Até lançaram um trailer de um MMORPG sobre o jogo mas nada de notícias tambem.
