I am 55 and don’t remember when there wasn’t graffiti on the train cars and I grew up next to the tracks, some I would consider art but most is an eyesore

First train ascending the hill with an R.J. Corman boxcar. Corman: a self-made man. Started with a tractor with grappling hooks, learned how to 'climb' onto a gondola filled with crossties, and the rest is history.
Love to see all the snow!!! We have very little train service here but every once in awhile I get stopped for a freight train to pass on but it is usually only a couple of minute wait. I have never seen such long trains as you have there! Take care and stay safe!

Those steel coils depending on length weigh anywhere from 15 to 30 tons each. I've seen semi trucks with their flat bed trailers haul two coils maximum and placed over the tandems.

Empty soybean cars going back for more most likely in Indiana. Plenty of good General freight both directions. It almost looked like the steel train took off too soon and maybe there's still 35 cars at Gest St yard. Interesting about that Wayward aluminum ingot between the two sets of tracks. Most of the time they're held in place with yellow plastic strapping and the cars do not have side walls or beams to hold it on place unlike the ones that haul steel slabs. So if you see a guy pushing a shopping cart with one of these call NS. Heck that would crush the cart.
I feel your pain it sucks when two trains go by on opposite side at the same time happened to me more than once last year we're so mad I can get those trains on video at once but I guess that's the way it goes sometimes when your railFanning 🙁😥
I’ve noticed that at all CSX and Norfolk Southern railroad crossings, the bell is silenced as soon as the crossing gate comes all the way down. Why is that? At most crossings out west, the bell continues ringing until AFTER the train has passed - not before or during the passage of a train.
NS seems to have a power shortage. Their trains almost always have "foreign power", but out west, about the only foreign power used is CN, and that is on a way more limited basis. Inquiring minds want to know.
Jawtooth, there is so much Union Pacific power on Norfolk Southern that maybe it’s possible that something is happening behind the scenes. Could the rumored UP merger with NS will become a reality? I hope not if that is the case. If this happens, then BNSF will automatically merge with CSX.
The Feds should NEVER allow either to happen. In my industry,the food business,Kroger,the largest supermarket chain is looking to buy Albertsons. The one thing you want the Feds to do is ensure fair trade and competition and stave off monopolies but they look the other way. I still cant believe the Feds allowed the Chinks to buy our largest pork manufacturer Smithfield Foods. What does that damn govt do anyway??
Something you might want to get. On the side of tank cars you will see a diamond shape plackard sometimes they are white or red or green. There is a number on it. With that number you can tell what it is inside. You might check at the DMV or the state’s DOT or maybe a fire station. To get a copy of the pamphlet. The reason that the fire station would have it they need to know what is inside in case of a accident. I just thought of another place maybe a truck stop. Because they use the same on the road. I did not know they started putting flashing lights on the last box cars.
