Canadian illustrator Andrea Wan has been living in Berlin for a little while. To find inspiration for her otherworldly paintings and cut-out paper pieces, she looks two places: to her dreams, which she often doodles out in a sketchbook, and to the landscape of Berlin itself.
In this video, you get a mini tour of Berlin as Wan takes you from her dreams, to the sketchbook, to her Berlin haunts - all in service of making her quizzical, eerie, fun illustrations.

The paintings have a wonderful, and whimsical style, but I wouldn’t call them eerie.

Shane Slack this is so true, when I'm taking day naps where I don't truly fall asleep I'm kind of just laying there daydreaming that's when I have vivid images just flitting through my mind. But I can't memorize them so they're gone as soon as they come. I always wish I could just bonk myself on the head and a picture of my thoughts would pop out of my mouth like a Polaroid camera lol.
I get really good writing ideas from my dreams. Once in my dream I even thought “ I need to write this down, this is a really good idea!” Can you imagine? I’m thankful for my weird and crazy dreams

Lucid dreaming is when you realize IN the dream, during your dream that you are actually dreaming.
Is lucid dreaming hard? I never had any problems controlling my actions in my dreams, just like life 😐
@@miumihp374 Since no one seems to have answered you, yes, door most people (including myself) it's difficult to control when we lucid dream.
@@miumihp374 i now almost master lucid dreaming just a little bit of control and i can get it. Tbh dreams are the things that i look out the most.

I once had a dream that this man fell in love with a very beautiful and mysterious woman. One night the man woke up and she wasn't sleeping next to him so he goes to find her and he finds her sitting at her vanity table. She was faceless. Every night her face would disappear and she would have to repaint it with black ink and once the ink seeps into her skin and veins her face forms again.

Yeah all the artist spaces here in Sf are insanely expensive and have wait lists.

Her drawings remind me a bit of junji Ito and shintaro kago’s art. I dunno why but these kind of art feels genuine
Wilson not really, their art is more brutal and emotional in a fierce way. But hers has calmness in it (sorry for my english, hope you can understand it :p )

I have a Dream journal, I don’t use it. But here’s the thing:
I have really cool and weird dreams, but instead of writing them down, I tell it to either my friends at school and my parents. And I also recreate the my dream in my head and that way I never forget my dreams. And my friends always ask me if I had a new dream, cuz I’m telling ya, my dreams are hella weird and cool.
I do that too, I have a few dreams from my childhood that I re-encounter every once in a while. The first dream that I remember is a blue and purple blurry furry monster chasing me from my living room(my dads house) to my parents room. I hid under my crib and the monster could never reach me. I remember that dream so well, but I haven't dreamed it since I had my son. Does anyone here ever have prophetic dreams?

Mayra Gallegos I have a recurring dream about weird characters from books ive read as a child & I running from a flood in my elementary school lmao I know some people say dreams mean something but what? Haha

I want to create one of these dream journals. I had a three week long "dream" when i was put into a medically induced coma last year. They had to put me under because my organs were shutting down due to a blood infection that i got from drug use. But in that dream I found my true self and what my future could be. I dreamt of travelling and getting back into creating art and healing relationships I had broken. I found my spirituality again through that dream that seemed so real. I looked up parts of the dream that i could remember while I was recovering in the hospital after this blissful experience and discovered that most of them stood for healing and starting a new life. I have been clean and sober since Feb 2019 because of it. I really should make something tangible out of it i suppose.

I one had a dream so detailed, realistic and eerie that it took me minutes after waking up to realize that it wasn't real. I have since then told it to multiple people, my friends and colleagues and it terrifies and haunts them.

I always had a huge admiration for artist who are creating art full time - this requires a huge commitment, courage and and yes, confident- so I am painting as a hobby aside from full time office job - you go girl, love the creative energy ❤️

I wish I could turn my dreams into painting but sadly I can’t remember them. I tried having a dream journal but it was left untouched because I could not remember anything about my dreams.
Watch matt d'avella 's video on lucid dreaming. If that doesn't work, try sleep paralysis. It's much scarier but it usually works.
To enter sleep paralysis just lie on your back, perfectly still. You must remain awake. Also, your body will send you signals like an itch or wanting to move, ignore them and stay still. After a while you will feel a pressure on your chest, and you won't be able to move at all. You may hear, smell or see things at this point (try to keep ur eyes closed though). Now you are in REM sleep, which means that with some practice you will be able to control your dreams.
I always wake up in the middle of my dreams, and I remember all of them after waking up everyday. It can be overwhelming.
Lucid dreaming.
Do you drink or smoke weed? These are blockers... if you stop/ dreams will return w abundance... your mind actually keeps tabs on your lack of rem sleep/ when you get back to normal state / dreams will flood in and be really intense for awhile and then level out again .. I know from experience
If im not mistake, in this world have 2 types certain people cant remember their dream like like total gone and certain people can remember their dream even a long dream they still remember.
But I wish that i have lucid dreams 😌

I've always wanted to bring my dreams in to life, like in a painting or a sketch but I do not have the knack of it. And it is true that the more you talk about your dreams, the more you remember them. I always tell my dream to the people around me but it is kinda sad how i can never precisely tell or explain it. I really hope I find a way too. You're so inspiring. I'm so glad to have discovered someone like you bring their dreams in the form of art. And Good luck! :)

i'm sorry i'm 2 years late but whaaat we dreamt the same thing ( not the exact but yea)! i also dreamt about huge chinese koi fish chasing after me, and then i drove a car to run away from it , I remember it soo clearly although i was in elementary atm
and in that dream, the huge koi was EATING their smaller koi friends, it was bloody and terrifying, and since that day on, I am disgusted with kois

I often get mhrder mystery type of dream and those are weird. I wish i have beautiful dreams like Ghibli Movies

I like her work. Certainly, if one can transfer images from their dreams into a work of art I'm sure the result will be surrealistic yet have some meaning (mostly to the dreamer).

My art inspiration comes from everyday objects dreams or my own art inspires me. I can just look at any thing or color pattern and turn it into art it’s like a blank canvas in my head create anything on it

I can never remember my dreams, only my nightmares.
This why I don't paint or draw my nightmares. It's too hellish and painful to ponder. Instead, I only draw external subjects, like flowers for therapy.
I had an idea once after having a slightly scary dream: to make stories out of them. It was a very interesting dream and I was losing my motivation to write at the time so I tried to make a short one for practice.
I never finished them, though, since I tend to get carried away with world systems and such that I forget about everything :'D. But it was fun trying to figure the details.
While people call this eerie i see this as beautiful and tells you how limitless art is

I liked this story. Wonderful young lady. Some dreams have significant meanings. I too have dreams to paint on canvas. They are prophetic. The paintings of the animals and the one with the ghosts and insects worry me. I can interpret some dreams as I have learned to ask the heavenly for guidance to know the meaning. Thanks for a great video with meaning.

I've always wanted to draw my dreams but i can't draw that well and i can only draw when i have something to copy from..instead i write them in a notebook but now i gave up coz i cant describe some part of my dreams in words..😅 i have meaningful, spiritual, magical, and sometimes dark dreams..i can still remember some of them..🤔

dreams really do not lie. I have a hard time expressing what's in my head to the outside world. people told me that I wore my heart on my sleeve and that I should toughen up because I wouldn't survive. I wasn't even allowed to mourn my friend's death for more than 2 days because my family started giving me this weird look whenever they would pass me. I started to realize I would be crying when I wake up and one of the dreams that I can remember having I was clinging to him crying even though dream me realized he wasn't real and was disappearing. I really want to paint that scene but I don't feel comfortable drawing around anyone. I don't want to be judged anymore...
You wouldn't want to turn my dreams into pieces of art... Trust me. 😂
