The story in the MV for SHINee's "1000 years" is about how SHINee are the angels of death who guide the dead from the afterlife to Heaven. The pages of the book SHINee have are a record of each person's history and it shows pictures of meaningful or important moments in each person's life. Everyone who was boarding the bus are ghosts or spirits and the bus is taking them to Heaven. SHINee are there to make sure everyone makes it on the bus that is supposed to.
You then see the little boy in the hospital and his mother is crying as the doctors tell her that her son is sick. The man you see is the boy's father and he is trying to cheer the boy up with the clown nose, the same way he used to do in the memories you see in the pictures in SHINee's book. But if you notice, the boy looks like he isn't even paying attention, and that's because he can't see his father because his father is dead. (The father died right before the boy became sick. I always feel bad for the mom because her husband has recently died and now her son is sick.) However, when you die, you have a short time to complete any unfinished business you have on Earth before you have to leave. So that is why you see SHINee looking at their pocket watches because they are counting down the time until the man has to leave. SHINee are just there observing what happens and routing for the man, hoping that he is able to accomplish everything he wants to before his time is up.
The man just wants one more chance to see his son smile, so he comes up with the plan to launch all those balloons into the sky outside his son's window, as a way to say I am here and I will always be with you in your memory. And, as you saw, it was a success. We see his son happy and smiling as he sees the balloons floating past his window.
After seeing his son smile one last time, the man has completed his business here on Earth, so he boards the bus and heads off to Heaven. Then you see SHINee's watches glow because everyone's time here on Earth is up and it's time for them to head to Heaven. Putting their fists in the air is something the father, mother and son used to do as a family, so you see everyone put their fists in the air to show their connection to each other and that they will never forget and that they are all routing for them, etc.

I used to not pay attention to SHINee's jp releases until I came across this "[LIVE] SHINee - 1000 Years, Always By Your Side 130920" video of them performing, live, outside...I understand there were some post production work done to remove the noise, but their vocals are just so good. It made me venture into their wacky and loads more light hearted Japanese discography.
This is one of my favorite live performances they did! I love this song and they really performed the heck out of this song vocally.
SHINee's "Dream Girl" was part of their Misconceptions of You album, which came out in 2013. The song is called "Dream Girl" so the whole MV is a dream sequence. That is why all the sets look like the rooms have been turned upside down and sideways. For example, in the room with the green walls, it looks like the room has been tipped on its side and they are dancing on the walls with the wooden floor behind them. The whole MV has a funhouse, crazy atmosphere because it's all happening within a dream. That's why you see the video glitches and why they are jumping and falling from the ceilings and walls and why you see Onew roll down the wall, and the members climb in and out of the windows, etc.
Their outfits are mismatched patterns and styles -- and Taemin's pants look like two No. 2 pencils (pink eraser, green metal band and yellow pencil) -- because it's a dream and not everything has to make sense in a dream. (This was another of SHINee's very iconic looks, and it's one of the things that makes SHINee, SHINee.)
Fun fact: You can't see the girl's face because she is a "dream girl." It doesn't matter what she looks like because Shawols are SHINee's dream girls. (Shawols are supposed to imagine ourselves as the "dream girl" SHINee is talking about.) So, the girl represents all their fans. And the fact that her face is covered with flowers represents how their dream girl is as beautiful as flowers, etc.
That is why all the scenes are the way they are because anything can happen in a dream.
This song and MV is one of the dozens of reasons why SHINee won artist of the year in 2013 at the Melon Music Awards, which is one of the most prestigious awards in the Kpop industry. For example, this was the same year that they had comebacks with "Everybody," "Why So Serious?" and "Colorful," among many other accomplishments.
And "Fire" is one of their Japanese singles that also was released in 2013. (Yet again, another song you really need hear them perform live. However, don't confuse it with their Korean song "Like a Fire," which is a B-side track from their Misconceptions of Me album from 2013, that also has an epic live stage. They are different songs.) As you can see, 2013 is considered one of the busiest and most prestigious years for SHINee as a group.
Seriously, SHINee's 2013 Misconceptions of You, Misconceptions of Me and Misconceptions of Us trilogy of albums have some of their most iconic songs to perform live. But to be fair, all of SHINee's songs performed live are pretty iconic.
Taemin is now 19 in the "Dream Girl" MV. Onew is 23, Jonghyun is 22 and Key and Minho are 21.
Rolling on the ground/rolling up the wall, etc. is short of Onew's signature go to comedic move. You will often see him doing log rolls and somersaults when he is trying to be funny. Like when you see him roll down the stairs during their live "Like A Fire" performance at their SHINee World Concert III in Seoul. However, Onew is also known for being super clumsy and he often trips over his own feet and falls, etc. It's such a common occurrence that the other members and fans have nicknamed it "Onew condition."
You definitely need to check out their dance practice video for "Dream Girl," th-cam.com/video/EsfiOO4AVdg/w-d-xo.html, as well as a live performance. And of course, like everything SHINee does, it's always 1000% better live. Just wait until you see their mic stand choreography in concert. Their MVs don't even begin to do their songs justice. (When it comes to SHINee, it's NEVER "possibly." You ALWAYS need to see and hear their songs live to fully appreciate them. The song will have a completely different vibe and be even more epic live no matter what they do. That is why it's an undisputed fact that SHINee are the KINGS of live performances. Everyone in the Kpop industry wishes they could perform live the way SHINee does.)
The mic stand choreography is legendary and, like SHINee, it was so unique for its time and unlike anything anyone had done up until then. Just another example of what makes SHINee pure greatness and why they are considered one of the best when it comes to their vocals and dancing. :D
There is even a famous moment in one of their MCountdown comeback stages for "Dream Girl" where Minho's mic stand breaks in the middle of the dance and the way they all improvised and kept on dancing just shows how skilled and professional they are. Check out an episode of the variety show Beatles Code 2 where they talk about it. I love this episode of the show because it has so many iconic SHINee moments. I think you will enjoy watching it. And Shindong, one of the members of Super Junior, is one of the hosts of the show. The concept of this variety show is The Beatles' "Yellow Submarine" theme. So that is why the hosts are dressed the way they are, they are supposed to look like the members of The Beatles.)
SHINee's mic stands have been specially made to be lighter and stronger than a regular mic stand, and if you watch the show I suggested above, you will get to see them up close, etc. However, the SHINee members still had to train a lot with them to be able to pull off this impressive choreography.

You mention Jonghyun singing in a softer voice for the songs today - that made me smile. Jjong has a thousand voices; whatever a song needs. That's true within Shinee's songs, although he gets a lot of the "belt work", which is probably what gets noticed first about him, and the depth and breadth of what he can do with his voice is even more noticeable in his solo work. Extraordinary range.

Personally, I really like SHINee's songs in Japanese, not only the ballads, but the more energetic songs like Picasso, Stranger, Your Number, etc (you'll get to those songs soon!)
About the live performances, I say without fear that 100% of the group's songs are better live, so you can always ask people to suggest links, it will always be a great experience!

If you want to watch a fun live (and you don’t mind doing MCountdown) - their first live stage of Dream Girl had a significant prop accident happen but they showed such teamwork that the director didn’t even notice while filming and they kept that take for the MCountdown! It’s a cool little story and a bit of SHINee history. Everyone played their part (except Taemin who didn’t notice either 😂).
