  • Watch as a Gentoo penguin miraculously escapes a pod of hungry Orcas (Killer Whales) by jumping into a boat full of tourists off the coast of Antarctica. It was amazing to watch in person!

      @twizzm So by your logic, we shouldn't help animals that are in need otherwise we'd be "interrupting the food cycles"? That's just absolute horseshit. If it's feeding them, then I understand. We don't want wild animals to associate humans with food but helping them out even if it's just a tiny bit isn't "interfering the food cycles". Of course, as a nature documentor, you shouldn't interfere but these people aren't filming documentaries, they're tourists or something similar so they're not interfering anything

    Aesop's story tells the tell of a hound dog chasing a rabbit. The rabbit darted this way and that, the dog started to tire and the rabbit with one last burst of speed made it away into some thickets. A farmer noticed the whole chase and yelled at the dog "Some Hunter you are! You let the rabbit get the best of you" The tired dog replies "You forget the rabbits strife. I was only running for my supper. He was running for his life". I think this applies here very much.

      Well, what is different to a "cooking" video, when a human prepares a steak on a grill with spicy marinade?
      If you step to the Orca's point of view, he fought hard to hunt down a meal and lost a lot of calories... Ultimately he and his children will starve to death, when all his prey is "as lucky" and rescued by humans.
      Don't get me wrong, I am happy for the Penguin, but we need to accept nature isn't a TV-Show with drama and happy endings, but most of the time a struggle for survival. Even plants are cruel out climbing their competition, blocking access to the sun, necessary for survival and fighting to keep their DNA in the gene pool. 😈

He just calmly shakes off a excess water and does his best to kind of blend in for a while. 😨Yep, that lame rubber boat seems far too flimsy for those aquatic power houses. If they can flip whales & great white sharks, that craft⚓ seems like easy pickings in comparison.
      👀Watched an impressive PBS nature doc detailing their highly aggressive hunting techniques from NoCal along West Coast🌊 to Southeast Alaska (& beyond). As a result, I wouldn't underestimate their might or stealth.
      Orcas (aka Shamu) are remarkably handsome ocean mammals. They're also curious, smart & sociable like their more ordinary dolphin "cousins" (aka Flipper).
      Of course, they differ in that they are hardcore whale KILLERS. They are considered apex predators 〰️ as no animals prey on them. Their pods work in strategic military precision to make their kills. They seem friendly, but I bet they were also assessing the situation.
      The Orcas clearly had both size & speed advantage over that penguin🐧, but they obviously did NOT fully engage in the pursuit. Luckily, they were more bored than hungry.
      Otherwise, that sea bird would've been a nice bite for one of them. Know they gotta eat 〰️ but I was
      🎉happy🎉 the man helped the penguin get aboard!

      @@odysseus2k1 humans are scrawny with very little meat and nutrition on our bones. Orcas waste whole sharks after eating just their livers and whole whales after eating just their tongues because those are the most nutritious parts and they have plenty more food around to hunt if they get hungry. Humans also have unhealthy eating habits full of GMOs and hormones and we willingly put drugs and chemicals in our bodies so we probably don’t even smell appetizing to them. That penguin was also probably just training for their young rather than an actual hunt as they weren’t even giving full speed chase, they weren’t desperate for that penguin

  • @r.g.o3879
    @r.g.o3879 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I can't understand why someone would dislike this video. It's not exactly like the humans actively interfered with the be hunt, the one woman kind of gave the little guy a shove in the back to ensure he was safe in the boat. I guess if you were hoping to see the little fella get turned into a bloody snack you have been disappointed but obviously many more people were happy to see the Gentoo survive. There are so many nature photographers and researchers filming the penguins on shore the little guys may have come to feel that we are kin folk of theirs. Our jackets and cold weather gear resemble the colors of the penguins so they felt we were a distant kin of theirs. When the orcas began to chase it it knew it would be safe in the boat. Such a brave, determined little man he deserved the right to survive

      Orcas are incredibly smart animals, and yes they could have coordinated an attack on the boat, but their intelligence told them otherwise. I believe they communicated this amongst themselves as they followed the boat as well.
      Unfortunately, it's not because they want to be out friends, it's because they understand that there would be repercussions if they committed such an act against the humans. The fact that they can understand this and act accordingly is truly scary.
