I switched between modes in Dragon's Dogma 2 and the 1080p balanced mode is much better than 720p performance mode but Idk if they also you better post processing there or aa or so. And if you look at Demon's Souls Remake with PSSR, which has some of the best graphics and fine detail this gen there is no crazy flickering, it's clean, so maybe there comes some more into play than just slapp it on and engine compatibility or some more optimising or so. And Village uses 864p PSSR and is looking worse than base PS5 checkerboard and in RE4 also 864p PSSR and has visual glitches and mini flicker or hues and looks also infior especially compared to 60 fps graphics mode which is also basically base PS5 checkerboard rendering and PSSR somehow can also look a little bit to agressive and artifical in some areas but I also think it has huge potential and needs just some fine tuning.
During those PSSR vs DLSS comparisons, I think this was the first time ever I thought DLSS looked worse than something it was being compared to. The DLSS implementation here looked blurrier, more artifact-y and generally of lower quality. Leads me to believe it’s a Respawn problem, not a DLSS problem, but still.
I don’t know what your seeing. DLSS looks much more detailed and has less of that pulsing foliage, though I do agree it’s likely the games implementation that’s partially to blame.

it seems pretty clear to me that the point of launching PSSR on the PS5 Pro is to iron out thees kinks now, on a niche machine, so that PSSR is ready for primetime when it can be on the more-mainstream PS6.
In some way you need to start with something new. Again: it’s an mid gen upgrade that more or less ~15% of the ps5 players will buy/use, same as it was with the ps4 pro. I only just played the Dead Space Remake on my PRO and it looks excellent IMO. A much higher base resolution and much better overall performance (and lots of patches since launch) has it looking quite incredible. If you have a pro you should revisit it.
@@jinchuriki26 That's because they're using DLSS Performance instead of Quality in the comparison shots and the game is using a pretty outdated version of DLSS.
It’s a shame. Only paid 0,99 and then 5,99€ for the EA Play subscription. The game itself is pretty good but the technical state of it is a shame, even after so many patches.
This has been a pattern for me with EA. They push games out too early. Then people don't buy it, so they have to invest time anyway to patch up the game and heavily reduce price... It's just stupid.
In motion PSSR was clearly outperforming dlss. there was more instability with dlss and a lot more blurry. people need to be fair and not bias in there evaluation. In motion is the most important thing, because nobody plays games standing still. How can someone say PSSR is better in motion, but dlss was better overall?..how does that make any sense.
I'm confused in the comparison between PS5 Pro vs. PC, the Ps5 Pro Version looks much better, sharper and better motion. But in the end oliver says:" DLSS is the clear winner here" wtf? 🤔
Mmm... Are people FINALLY waking up to his lies? Will you now think more about this when you hear him say that FSR looks better? Hope so cuz FSR is garbage and PSSR is leagues better. If only DF would point out characters T-posing in the Mantis instead of focusing exclusively on lighting problems, Respawn might fix other obvious glitches.
The way Alex talks about PSSR I don't think I feel is fair to the technology. He knows it's evolving and he himself said these other upscalers have been out for 4 years now and have evolved. You have to release it sometime and Sony was not hiding it by saying they are learning and evolving with this technology. It's obvious it's improving already and have we forgot it's been 2 months since release? I'm glad Sony is constantly updating PSSR and it's getting better. I believe in 6 months to a year we will see bigger improvements to the technology. I feel it's a little 2 faced Oliver praised the tech when interviewing Cerny but didn't bring up any of these issues.
The problem is that AMD's new "research project" (FSR 4) tech seems to be getting better results at face value, so if AMD's going to have a better upscaler available, it puts into question the point of PSSR's existence. I think it remains to be seen once there's actual footage of FSR 4 and some hands-on comparisons can happen.
@@NowakP you summed it up at the end of your comment, basically it's a waste of time comparing FS4 tech demo recorded on a handy cam based on just 1 game and not showing it in motion either - its insane to already come to the conclusion its somehow "better" than PSSR and I feel that video DF put out shouldn't have existed... it should've just been a brief talking point in their regular DF Weekly videos accounting what they saw and nothing more because its sparked alot of unnecessary controversy. But I suppose they're just doing it on purpose for the views. Wait until its actually out and then compare it to the lastest version of PSSR so that it's a fair comparison, also show both games in motion too which should be the main important factor since they're _video_ games.
I feel like Respawn should just give DF a call anytime they plan to release a patch. Because with any Jedi Survivor patch, it’s always one step forward and half a step back.

Let's hope that Respawns next game doesn't require monthly updates to be playable. I really hope that Jedi Survivor was a learning experience for them.
The black issues and shadows popping in and out I noticed seem to be a result of toggling between Performance and Quality Mode, as one would do during an analysis like this. A reset of the game and maintaining the same mode after that seems to resolve this entirely. Just noting.
@ recently? I noticed them before the recent patch, but not since. Curious what causes it and why some people never see this and others do if it’s not the mode switching.
I wonder why these guys didn't consider capturing this game with HDR on PS5 pro because PSSR looks way better with RGB HDR on. People who get shimmering are for sure playing with Yuv420 on.
Ahh yes! We are once again invited to the royal court of Digital Foundry where the jester is played by EA and Jedi Survivor. What a treat! As it stands now - the combined length of DF’s videos on Jedi Survivor is longer than the games story. Now that’s a good joke! Bows the jester!
There are still some issues with grids and fine lines. If they get this fixed and the overall issues PSSR seems to have with RT Global illumination then yes.
@@MisterReen Based on the initial impressions of FSR4 which looked quite good, PSSR on PS5 Pro and most likely PS6 will only continue to get better and actually compete with DLSS, though Nvidia did just raise the bar with the new Transformer Model which they've apparently been training for like 6 years straight, but even getting similar results to DLSS 2/3 would be a huge upgrade from FSR2 and early versions of PSSR.

Oli's a weirdo who apparently plays games in the form of slideshows. He also preferred pssr off in alan wake 2 despite pssr looking obviously better in motion in that game
I think this has something to do with why people are commenting here saying (old) DLSS is outperformed by PSSR. In the full image a lower level of detail would be less obvious, the flickering/instability in PSSR would still stand out I think.
Respawn are great at creating huge, immersive games, especially with the Jedi series, but they're not the most technically gifted. Fallen Order was plagued with bugs which were never fixed and Survivor has a lot too, so it didn't surprise me that the first Pro patch came out all wrong. At least they've addressed the main issues with PSSR here.
This shows very promising changes to PSSR. If we get 2 or 3 other updates with similar impact to PSSR's pain points in the next year or two, it could be in a really good place. Shame the same can't be said of Jedi Survivor, although the change is meaningful, thinking anything relating to that game can be called "promising" would almost reek of Stockholm syndrome.
The fact that a PS5 Pro, (which is roughly equivalent to RX6800/RX7700XT or RTX3070Ti) needs to run a game at 900P to deliver 60fps is totally unacceptable. Developers are relying all their games/engines optimization on FSR/DLSS, which is a matter of concern, because we reach a point where old games at native 1080P60fps looks way cleaner that all this new blurry mess they launch now a days.
PSSR is so much sharper than DLSS that you can see it from a heavily compressed TH-cam video... I wouldn't use that level of DLSS, but I'd be fine with that level of PSSR.
Calling it now: One of the reasons Respawn is still patching Jedi Survivor is because they're eventually going to release a "Jedi Double Pack" for Nintendo Switch 2.
The game still has micro-stutters that drop all the way to 15FPS on mid-range+ systems. I really wish the devs would optimize this game. It's sad and shows no desire or care for the work presented.
I think sometimes DF concentrates too much on how a game looks when stationary. In reality when playing a game, I hardly ever just sit there not moving anything at all. Od prefer it look better in motion
@@MisterReen It is not ok you just got use to it!! got back and look search for games on the ps4 pro running at 60fps how much smoother they looked in motion!!
I love you guys at DF and you guys do great work. But you're killing me with the constant comparisons of PS5 Pro/PSSR to the PC where it is clearly not the point. Alex says that PSSR did not come into an "empty market" in terms of reconstruction options....but it actually did! When PS5 PRO launched, there were ~3 ML upscalers available *ON PC* ...how many were on PlayStation? ZERO! That is is the point...that is the market for it. Alex says it makes you wonder about the point of the PS5 PRO and PSSR. The point is to deliver a superior experience to the *base PS5* ...not to some arbitrary PC config or the "state of the art" for gaming as a whole. PSSR is intended to deliver a superior experience to TAA and FSR which is DOES in 9/10 PRO enabled games. You can pixel peep and compare to PC all you want, but anyone with eyes and a competent 4K screen can see that the PRO version of titles are superior to the base PS5 in nearly every case. Sure the delta varies depending on the quality of the integration, but the point is that the PRO mode is almost always the best way to play. Jedi Survivor (along with Avatar and Silent Hill 2) was one of the few cases where playing on the PRO was noticeably worse than the base PS5 which should absolutely never happen. This patch fixes that and while not perfect, most of the issues lie in the game/engine itself that is evident on Xbox, PC and PS. There was no mention of how this patch really compares to the base PS5 version...again the main target. Let's not forget that the game is running at nearly 2x the input resolution, higher quality settings, added RT in performance mode and now with a quality PSSR implementation....you have to be sick or blind to say that the experience is worse than the base PS5. Mission accomplished!
Alex is way too biased against the PSSR. Let me put it like this: Normally the comments are that it is good there is competition etc. But when it comes to PSSR, you dont see that there is a need and that there are too many competing systems. Why this negative bias against PSSR, is it because it is DLSS capabilites at budget cost? Dont worry, people will sink their money on 5090 and imagine they can see difference between 200 and 400 fps.
@@shredenvain7 I think Oliver is pretty objective on his reviews, but his analyses only cover consoles, so it makes sense that he is not too harsh on consoles

It really isn’t shocking at all when you consider they are only ever comparing PSSR to DLSS performance mode, which is pretty rough. I always use Quality or DLAA mode which are both significantly better than PSSR. XESS has about the same quality as PSSR and nobody was surprised.
@@VincentVanBro They chose the performance mode because the the performance mode of DLSS renders the image at 1/4th the output resolution i.e in this case 900p , same as pro. So pro going from 900p to 1800p via PSSR vs PC going from 900p to 1800p via DLSS (performance mode). That is fair matchup.
@@ttwinsturboBut that wouldn’t be a like for like comparison, the pro is doing 900p and the pc with DLSSP at 1800p internally renders at that resolution. The only unfair representation is the fact that it’s using an old DLSS model, 3.1, and the latest is 3.8.
shimmering is still a huge issue here, no matter how sharp it looks, those flickering on the foliage are really annoying, patch 10 fix most of it, but not entirely it's still here and when you've noticed it it's hard to play with it, PSSR really needs to improve on that specific point (even in the clip of black myth wukong I saw that there where a lot of more shimmering than FSR)
But like Alex said, they're using the version that comes with the game, not the latest one. I'll be curious to see what DLSS 4 will bring, since you won't have to manually replace the dll, but will be able to force the lastest DLSS version through the Nvidia App.
From what you said at the end, has AMD confirmed that FSR 4 will also run on RDNA 2? Based on previous reports, I would have assumed that it would only be usable with RDNA 4?
@kraenk12 Unfortunately, this does not automatically mean that it supports FSR 4 if certain hardware has to be installed. It is primarily designed for PSSR. It would be interesting to see if it can also do FSR 4. And whether the other consoles can also use FSR 4.
Super happy with this latest update. It’s not perfect but it’s a drastic change for me and looks pretty clean. Best it’s ever looked on the PS5 Pro console for performance mode.
Spoiler, it's not, I tested it yesterday, and the flickering on grates when at a low angle is horrid, and other surfaces near the end of the first level had just random surface flickering as well. Gave up after that. EDIT: After watching the video, the guys didn't cover the issues I mentioned. I saw graphical issues far worse than what was shown. I invite everyone with the game on pro to check the first level, look at the grates when your camera is angled low, you should see violent flickering on any grates on screen leading off into the distance where the detail is unable to resolve correctly. Also near the end of the first level when you are about to get back to your ship the ground around the ship is flickering for inexplicable reasons. I have been waiting to play this game when they resolve the issues and it appears I'll have to keep waiting.
Haha Alex‘ reaction when Olli talked about the various issues with the game… he’s simply giving up here. Overall it’s not so nice what respawn did here and it’s a shame that they’re not able to fully fix it.

They look so much fucking better than the base PS5. It's kind of crazy. And honestly, I don't even see these problems at this distance on a normal television. I think Sony is on the right path actually because the motion is where most of these upscalers fall apart. I mean that's why FSR is such a pile of garbage it looks like Sandy mesh whenever you move. These upscalers for PlayStation 6 and going forward are going to look so fucking good. You ain't going to be able to tell the difference. What are you going to zoom in 1600%. It's already 400% zoom in. That's why you don't see these issues when you're gaming on a big screen television. If you're on a monitor maybe, but as far as I'm concerned it looks incredible.

The image on pro is better than the one on dlss, yes there is a bit more flickering but it is much more detailed.
It is also a little bit too fizzled in some areas with some distance and finer stuff and maybe TH-cam doesn't show this good enough but the patch, no matter what anybody says, is definitely an improvement.
Every PSSR update gets better and it just got started.
I also thought the same. Pssr resolving much more detail especially in motion how your supposed to playba video game.
@flockelocke2297 I agree.
@@adaml.5355 should depend also from where they use PSSR.

The black issues and shadows popping in and out I noticed seem to be a result of toggling between Performance and Quality Mode, as one would do during an analysis like this. A reset of the game and maintaining the same mode after that seems to resolve this entirely. Just noting.
I have observed these issues when loading in fresh without swapping modes as well. The shot of the black spots in the RTGI is from a fresh load.

The fact that a PS5 Pro, (which is roughly equivalent to RX6800/RX7700XT or RTX3070Ti) needs to run a game at 900P to deliver 60fps is totally unacceptable.

Noticed all the "PRO" haters have all moved on to the latest "fake frame RTX" cards 🙄 just goes to show there's a large group in are hobby that are just addicted to hating on everything that's not perceived as perfect 🤷
The gaming community is a strange place.
