The point was to illustrate the difference between glasses types for those among us who try to pass off ordinary glasses or sunglasses as safety glasses. It's pretty remarkable how durable the lenses of even the non-safety glasses were (which is perhaps less surprising given that modern eyeglasses and sunglasses generally have polycarbonate lenses for shatter resistance); unfortunately for the poor dummy wearing the non-safety glasses, that didn't protect them from the impact popping the lenses out of their frames and smashing them into the dummy's eye.
